Mitchell Fishing Equipment

To many, fishing is more than a hobby – it is a lifelong passion. The early morning drive to the lake, the quiet hours on the boat, the long and lazy afternoons of waiting for a bite. Fishing is a favorite pastime of not only men, but many women and children as well. Some take it very seriously and devote as much time as possible to the sport, while others may be too busy to get out there as often as they would like. Maybe you dream about spending your days out on the water, your fishing pole in hand, without worrying about rushing back to shore in time to get to your regular 9 to 5.
If you’ve often wished you could leave the grind and trade it in for a leisurely life full of doing what you love, there may be a way to do so. The obvious route is to pursue a career in angling or with a large fishing outfit. Unfortunately, unless you live in geographic areas where this is possible, it may be difficult to achieve. There are, however, some ways in which you can earn money for fishing. Whether you leave your day job or simply make money on the side with your favorite hobby, consider these ideas for getting paid to do what you love.
Write About Your Experiences
One of the most common ways to earn money for fishing is to create content, in the form of articles or stories, about your experiences while fishing. Writing about fishing can be in the form of travel journaling, instructional (how-to) pieces, or many other types of stories. One would think that writing about fishing is something that’s difficult to break into. The fact is, demand for content related to fishing is greater than the existing supply of writers is able to meet.
If you decide you want to get paid for fishing by writing about your experiences, there are many different opportunities available. You can develop your own Web site and self-publish your articles and stories, then sell space to advertisers who will gladly pay you. You can also sell articles to other Web sites, content development companies or even magazines and journals. Make sure to brush up on your writing skills and pay close attention to grammar, punctuation and style.
Train Others To Do What You Love
If writing is not really your thing, but you have a knack for teaching, you could package and market a fishing training service. Imagine taking a group of two or three eager students out on your own boat and training them with your own equipment for a handsome fee. Many men and women would love to take up fishing as a hobby but simply don’t know how or where to start. Beginning your own fishing school could be as simple as placing an ad in your local newspaper or online. You can also create fliers about your service and post them in places where potential new fishers would see them. Keep in mind that to be successful in this type of undertaking, you must have excellent communication skills and a lot of patience.
Organize and Lead Fishing Outings
Yet another way to get paid for fishing requires a bit more coordination and planning on your part. Consider packaging and marketing touristic fishing expeditions. You can do this with your own Fishing Boat or by renting a fishing boat and working the cost in to the fee each individual will pay to participate in the trip. You can add services such as lessons, meals and drinks, and visiting points of interest.

The contribution of bass fishing industry to the US economy records $50 to $70 Billion and the number continues to grow. Statistics show that the audience base of this sport is increasing and that more and more people are getting interested in it compared to tennis and golf.
Electronic gears during that time were also integrated and incorporated among the host of equipments bass fishers which were used at that same time. Reels of different types, which function in carrying and hoisting, were also created.
Now that you have a little understanding about bass fishing, you can already start your own bass fishing in your place. It is important to know the certain facts about bass fishing so that you will fully understand how it started.
In addition, you must know how to build up a victorious bass fishing pattern. Having a larger bass will really help you in your fishing trip.
Some may also go bass fishing at night if they want to so it is good that you be taught professional night bass fishing techniques.
Besides, the others may also be benefited by learning the professional winter bass fishing techniques for those who have experienced the four seasons.
These are only some of the many styles and tips on how to progress and enhance your bass fishing strategy. But if you do not have any plan at all, you may really get dissatisfied from time to time. But, it is optional that you first learn and read adequate information and guides about bass fishing.

From weather and water conditions to what type of bait to use, you can learn to fish like a pro when you obtain updated fishing reports for your fishing area.
What are Saltwater Fishing Reports?
Saltwater fishing reports are the reports of a particular area or body of water. In this case, we are referring to saltwater fishing so there will be reports of saltwater bodies of water. These reports may be from saltwater charters, Fishing Guides, ordinary fishermen or from deep Sea Fishing enthusiasts.
There are many great sources of information for the saltwater fishing reports and the reports themselves are usually put out by a website or organization.
What kind of information can you expect to obtain from these saltwater fishing reports? You may ind out what the weather conditions are like, what water conditions are like, what type of bait seems to be working well for a particular species of fish and similar tips and ideas to help you in your own fishing attempts.
Fishing reports can tell you:
What the body of water is like
What the weather is like
Depths that certain fish have been found out
Types of bait that were successful with a particular type of fish
Types of rods and reels that have proven successful with a particular type of fish
Typical size of weight of fish caught in an area
What tactics were used to catch certain fish
And much more
The exact information given in a fishing report can vary greatly according to who is giving the report. The above are just examples of the types of information you can get from a saltwater fishing report.

Used Fishing Equipment

Man has been fishing since he first set foot into water, however, the tools and methods used to catch the fish has evolved from a sharpened stick to a multitude of fishing equipment that, to the fresh angler, can be a bit overwhelming. No longer is the bamboo pole the weapon of choice, but rather closed and open spool rod and reels have become the standard as fishing equipment has evolved through time.
It used to be the bait and tackle shop next to your favorite fishing hole, selling only, sinkers, hooks, line and worms. In today’s angling world, however, there are entire super stores dedicated to the great outdoors. These super stores, or online markets, carry an array of rods, reels, and lures, which makes finding the right fishing equipment a challenge.
The rod and reel you choose will be the most important variable in your fishing experience. The closed spool rod and reel is exactly as it sounds. The spool that holds the fishing line is covered entirely by a plastic or metal cover, giving the fishing line a little extra protection from weathering. The drawback to these sorts of reels has a habit of tangling and knotting, and getting the he problem can be just as trickery as solving it. An open spool reel seems to be the new standard among anglers. The open-faced reel has a very smooth touch to it when you reel in your game. Also, being open makes it easy to fix tangles in fishing line.
Another important decision to make when shopping for fishing equipment is what kind of fishing line you should use. Within the last ten years the technology behind fishing string has increased it’s performance dramatically. Likewise, there is a myriad of different kinds of fishing line to choose from. The main concern when choosing fishing line is to find a string with a high enough weight test to pull in those big catches. Getting fishing line with insufficient test could make that big mouth bass the one that got away.
Lures and bait are also an important decision when shopping for items to fill your tackle box. One must learn what lure is effective for angling a certain fish. There are thousands of different lures, falling into two categories, hard lures and soft lures. Hard lures consist of shimmering spoon lures, to replica fish lures, to crappie jigs. Soft lures are mostly made up of latex scented replica worms or crawfish. Or, you can always go with the classic, worms or crickets. For every type of angling, there’s a lure for it, and it never hurts to have a variety in your tackle box.
There’s no shortage of diversity within the world of fishing. So, whether you’re a beginner or advanced, there’s a variety of fishing equipment suit your needs.

im starting from scratch in purchasing fishing equipment. what all should i buy to get started?
i want to use bait and lures
First off get a licence. Then go to Bass pro Shops if there if one near you with $100 or more and find someone who works there (someone who knows what there doing) and ask them about the waters near you and the time of year. But if you can’t do that then buy you a good rod and reel, it will cost more than $50 for a good combo. Then buy some good quality hooks and some plastic worms. Maby even a few crankbaits and a spinner bait, you a willow blade for clear water and acolorado blade for murkey. A willow blade is long and thin whare a colorado blade is almost circular. Then read about all the diffrent rigs on the internet and how to use them.
Good luck

will give you the information you need to make an informed decision about a critical piece of your fishing gear, one which anglers everywhere are calling the best in its class.
Sleek and well-designed, the Abu Garcia REVO Toro 50 baitcast reel is an inspiration in fishing reels. It adds the high-capacity spool size found on a typical round reel to a low-profile design. Spring is here. You head out early in the morning, your fishing gear packed into the back of your SUV. You’re looking forward to a day on the lakeshore and are hoping to catch a pickerel or perch.
When you arrive, you pack your gear to the rocky shore and decide, for the fun of it, to use a nightcrawler for bait. You slide it onto your hook and cast. The bait sinks below the surface. Bang! A fish strikes. It is a good sized catch and a fighter. You can see it flipping and thrashing in the cool water, trying to free itself of the hook. You play the fish until it tires, bring it into shore and scoop it into your net. Much to your surprise, you’ve landed a northern pike.
Lake fishing is any type of fishing that is done on a lake. It can be shore fishing from a pier or marina or from a rocky shoreline. It can also be boat fishing, trolling or fly fishing. There are a wide variety of fish species found in lakes around the world. Lake species include bass, trout, catfish, perch, pickerel, northern pike, muskellunge, sturgeon, walleye and salmon.
If you plan to fish from a boat, you will need to own one, rent one, or go lake fishing with someone who has one. To fish from a boat, you will need a rod, reel, tackle, trolling equipment and a lake or fish map. If you are a beginner, use a basic lake fishing kit. This includes a six to eight foot graphite or fiberglass rod with a basic closed or open faced reel. Fishing line should be 8 to 15 pound-test, depending on the fish species you are targeting and the depth. Fishing near the surface requires 8 pound-test, while fishing the middle or bottom requires 15 pound test. The larger the fish species, the higher pound-test line you will need.
You will also need a variety of different sized hooks, ranging from medium to large. Split shot sinkers are best. If you are planning on fishing the bottom, larger weights will be necessary. Remember, when buying sinkers, be sure they are lead free in order to protect the environment. Floats can vary from cork to plastic to foam. Torpedo floats work great as well. Floats of various sizes can be used, but remember, smaller is always better. You don’t want the fish to see your float.
A variety of bait, both live and artificial is used for different species of lake fish.
Trout
Live bait for trout includes worms, insects, insect larvae and crayfish. Artificial bait includes streamers, spoons, spinners and dry and wet flies.
Bass
Live bait includes worms, shad, insects, insect larvae, frogs, crayfish and minnows. Artificial bait includes spinners, streamers, Mepps, spoons, jigs, crankbaits and clousers.
Walleye
Live bait includes nightcrawlers, crayfish, minnows, chubs and leaches. Artificial trolling bait that is best is jointed minnows and spinner rigs.
Salmon
Live bait includes worms, prawns, crustaceans, insects and insect larvae. Artificial bait includes lures, flies, plugs, streamers and spinners. Prepared bait such as egg sacs and scents also work well.
Catfish
Catfish in a lake are usually channel cat. They are attracted to cut bait, worms, crayfish or peeled crayfish tails, mollusks, minnows, cheeseballs, breadballs, shrimp, chicken entrails and liver.
Pickerel
Pickerel feed on aquatic insects and invertebrates. Use nightcrawlers, minnows, crayfish, insects and frogs. Artificial bait includes worms, spinners, spoons, streamers and Mepps.
Perch
Perch feed on minnows, insects, insect larvae, crayfish, snails, nightcrawlers, grubs and maggots. Artificial bait includes worms, lures, spinners, streamers and jigs. Use small lures when fishing for perch, as they have small mouths.
Northern Pike
Pike are predators. They will take nightcrawlers, minnows and smelt. Pike, especially females heavy with eggs, prefer dead bait because it provides an easy meal. Artificial bait includes wobbling spoons, spinners, split minnows and red and white spoons. If you are removing a hook from a northern pike, use needle nose pliers to avoid injury.
Muskellunge
Live bait for Musky includes live fish bait that is 10 to 12 inches. Suckers work well, as do leeches, frogs, insects and sunfish. Artificial bait includes spoons, bucktails and large plugs. Muskies are fighters and will strip reels, break rods, mutilate bait and bend hooks.
Sturgeon
Sturgeon like fresh bait and are bottom feeders. They are attracted to clams, eel, crayfish, smelt, salmon eggs, shad, nightcrawlers and fish heads.
Lake Trolling
Trolling is the use of either large or artificial bait pulled through the water behind a moving boat. It is used on lakes, especially for trout and walleye. The boat can be powered by a motor or oars. The bait can be trolled at any depth and is intended to resemble live fish. Trolled plugs, spoons and flies can be fished deep by adding weights or using leadcore line. Live bait is fished below a sliding float when trolling.
If you wish to take up lake fishing and have concerns over equipment or bait that you should use, ask an experienced lake angler to give you some tips, or invite them to come along on a lake fishing trip. Any experienced lake angler will be able to help you with equipment, bait, casting and trolling issues. This could be a family member, friend, neighbor or a staff member at a bait and tackle shop that specializes in lake fishing.

Fly Fishing Equipment On Sale

You may remember getting reprimanded as a kid for leaving your cycle in the backyard overnight or being corrected and punished for forgetting to put your playthings away after you finished using them; well, that is all a part of growing up and a memory that is sure to be common to lots of fishermen too. We mention this here today because of the need for the right equipment for anglers to make that perfect fishing trip more enjoyable – and learning to take care of fishing gear is part of every smart fisherman’s safeguard to providing more fun once you’ve invested in a pair of good quality fly fishing waders that protect you and let you venture into deeper waters to maximize scope of getting a catch! You may recall the disappointment you’ve felt as a kid on leaving action hero toys on a duty posting outdoors and found them ruined by a local tabby – well, this further emphasizes the importance of looking after your belongings, including your fly fishing waders, after they’ve serviced you on the last fishing trip – just as you would care and protect your other things.
Care and maintenance of your expensive or budget fly fishing waders is very crucial to making the next fishing trip a memorable one – for the right reasons – as nothing is more a kill-joy on an outdoor sports vacation than knowing your equipment is the wrong kind or not up to the adventure! Many a time, even the less costly pair of fly fishing waders can put a dent in your fishing gear budget, as good quality gear doesn’t come cheap – even on sales and mark-down prices; learning to take care of them is the only way to ensure you have secured your hundred dollar plus worth for many more fishing trips to come and done the needful by keeping them clean and dry after you’ve finished using them.
The importance of protecting your fly fishing waders cannot be stressed enough: this is a vital part of any fly fisherman’s essential gear and is a shield from sharp rocks, uneven or rough ground conditions besides allowing you to wade into deeper waters while you stay warm and dry – without risking your clothes getting soiled too! Therefore, as long as you are scouting for better fishing holes and need to skim the waters for your catch, you need to depend on a good quality pair of fly fishing waders that assist you in your job; take care not to puncture them, though, as this is hard to mend. If you check for holes in your fly fishing waders when you return from the trip and clean and put them away, you won’t have to learn the hard way – as others do – about frustration at ruined gear on the next trip!
Experts recommend that just depending on a higher price tag on the fly fishing waders you buy is no way to guarantee how durable they are and therefore it is very important to use them with care and double-check for any faults, tears or leaks when you return from a fishing trip, besides of course, cleaning and drying them before storing them away. Shine a flashlight on the inside of the waders in a darkened area to check for holes or submerge them in water while applying pressure from the outside – you’ll know you’re in trouble if small water droplets form! Get a patch to mend these punctures ASAP – so your waders are ready and fixed for the next outing.
If you hang up your waders when you return from a trip (for drying thoroughly) and follow the above tips, you can count on many years of service from your waders!

Turning Camping into Cash?
Pt. 1
“Camping is nature’s way of promoting the motel business.” – Dave Berry.
Having returned from my first camping trip, while casually thumbing through the Yellow Pages for quick divorce lawyers, I received a call from Top Sleeping Bags, a new camping equipment website, asking “can you write an article on turning camping into cash?” I closed the phone book and here’s the first installment of my series of answers.
The camping world needs a woman’s touch and I don’t mean a female Daniel Boone. I mean a female Dave Berry. It really needs one and there’s gold in them ‘thar hills. There’s no advice for dreamers (who looked at brochure photos of laughing couples, holding hands while hiking along majestic mountain paths) only to return from their first camping trip with blisters the size of baseballs, poison ivy welts and the need for blood tests for Lyme Disease. And that’s where turning camping into cash and you come in. Just think about it, if you like to hike, canoe and camp anyway, it’s all upside. That advice giver could be you.
Camping gear reviews — advice on what camping gear to buy and why — is everywhere, from eBay’s Camping Buying Guide or REI’s Camp/Hike Expert Advice. In bone-numbing detail, we learn we’ll need out sleeping bags rated for -10* Fahrenheit to camp in the snow or that a car rack must clamp to the seam between the door and vehicle frame if a car lacks gutters. And, coincidentally, every tip and every piece of advice relates back to a product for sale on the site.
And the Internet also abounds with campsite reviews where information that should cause civilized people to recoil in horror is considered mighty handy information for the hardy camping crowd. These reviews allow them to discover which campsites have 30 amp electricity, which have sewage disposal for RVs, and those where you best keep an eye out for rattlesnakes and scorpions.
But real-world advice? Forget it. You can search the Internet in vain or Google until the cows come home but you won’t find advice on whether it is better to choke to death on fish bones or simply walk into the wilderness and freeze to death after your newly retired husband – who somehow convinced you to share a winter adventure ice fishing in Canada – hands you his fresh catch to clean and cook for the evening’s meal over a tiny propane flame. Nor can you find advice on the best response when — while pitching a tent in the dark with someone who forgot to pack flashlights — asked what’s taking so long to pound in your half of the tent stakes into the ground with the heel of your shoe because someone also forgot to pack a hammer.
You’ll search forever for camping advice that begins with “Just don’t do it, don’t go. But if you must be certain you know how far the nearest 4-Star restaurant is from your campsite and you’ve MapQuested the directions… “
So where to start, in turning good advice like that into gold? My advice – start a camping blog? Start a camping blog, gain a following with your advice and make money from affiliate marketing or selling advertising space. Starting a blog – personal publishing platforms — can be done without money. See WordPress.
Affiliate Marketing. Sign up with an affiliate marketing company like commissionjunction.com or clickbank.com, chose the product you want to sell on your website (divorce lawyer advertising? Family counseling?), the company will provide you with the code to place on your blog and then every time some one clicks on the link or buys the product, (pay per click or pay per commission) you get paid!
Sell Advertising Space. For example, you can go to Google’s site, sign up for an Ad Sense account, and follow the instructions they provide to get it on your blog. You know those “ads by Google” sections of web pages these days, that’s what we’re talking about.
Sell Banner Ads. Offer spots for companies to place banner ads on your site. To keep it easy, you can place the banner ad code in one of your blog posts. If you want to get more technical, you can attempt to place it on other locations on your blog page.
Or …
Squidoo. This is a spot for people to make small personal web pages about things they are interested in. You could, rather easily, make several Squidoo lenses (their dubbed term for webpage) with various articles, photos, video, etc. The beauty of a Squidoo lense, is the money making technology is built in. You can, with a click of a button, add an Adsense campaign to your lenses, Amazon modules, or ebay listings. All of which you split a commission on.
HubPages. These are a similar concept to Squidoo. You make your own personal “hubpage” and use the same methods to produce an small income, AdSense, Amazon, etc. If your Hubpage has valuable content, which as we established before shouldn’t be that hard in the field of camping, its very possible to great a small but steady source of income.
This isn’t get-rich-quick advice but it is a way you could gain a national following, your traffic could explode and then the world would be your oyster. Don’t quit your day job. But do take your laptop with you camping. I believe in you. You should believe in you.
You may think the hardest part is coming up with great advice. Think again. Just go camping. Be sure and check back, Top Sleeping Bags has me booked for a whole series.

If you are one for deep sea fishing, the best way you can make the most of the sport is to charter a boat for a deep sea fishing trip. Deep sea fishing charters are great fun when you go in a group. There are many advantages for group charters and the economics is just one of them. When on a deep sea charter with a lot of fellow anglers you will find that you will have a lot more fun, and even catch more fish.
Many deep sea fishing charter companies allow you to choose between renting a boat and making it out to sea by yourself or you may charter a bat and go on a guided tour for a couple of days out at sea. Chartered tours for deep sea fishing vary in length and the kind of events they sail into. Deep sea fishing charters are contracted by different people for many reasons, though mostly for fishing, some people like to take them out for whale watching too. Many people just go out to sea for some good diving and swimming. If you have the luck of the devil, as I have had on a couple of occasions, you will be able to do all these on one trip.
Many people cannot wait to get out to sea in their deep sea charter. There are many charter boats designed for specific fishing, so if you are angling to catch a shark make sure you have the right boat, and probably the right guide, preferably one who can dive in and pull you out of the drink in time. Yea, there are precautions you should take for your deep sea fishing trip. Deep sea charter fishing is nothing like fishing at the lake of river. Here the fish are invariably bigger than you and can pull you into their domain if you are not cautious enough. So get the macho image off and get your seat belt on while you hold the hook and sinker r in the sea. Many accidents have happened, with anglers joining the Piscean species in the sea because they throw caution to the wind.
If you are out on a deep sea charter from a reputed company, you will no doubt have access to the best advice at sea. Many deep sea charter boat companies subscribe to news feeds that keep them up to date on where the best game is and how fast to get there. So while you are at a location at sea and having little or no luck, a news flash on the radio will inform the captain where to go and what kind of fish to expect.
If you are hunting shark you will best get out to sea at night. Because of the calmness of the sea at night many anglers have much better luck than when they fish in the daytime. However, many anglers cannot stand the eeriness of the sea at night and prefer to try their luck when the sun comes out.
The prices will vary of course. So, try to do a bit of research and get the best deep sea fishing charter for your trip. If you join a group, it will work out more economical and fun.

Prior to delving into the technicalities of fishing and fishing gear, you should have your paper work in order. Remember that many spots in the US and around the world require anglers to have a fishing permit or license before they can fish in waters conditioned for good fishing.
Once you have your required paper work in order you need to have a basic fishing kit, a kit that includes just the basic equipment for you to catch a fish or two and one that you can add to as you gain experience along the way. Common sense will have you know that you need to match the fishing line to the fishing rod and reel. Once you have perfectly matched rod, reel and line you will be well on your way to an enjoyable fishing experience. A well matched fishing line and reel prevents anglers from encountering what is called a bird’s nest. However, have no fear even the most experienced of fishermen encounter that problem from time to time.
The first accomplishment for an amateur angler is to have a perfectly matched fishing rod, line, reel and lure. This set is not very expensive and is expected to cost an amateur angler somewhere between $25 to $40, and these last for many years. Look ot for three main points while purchasing your first rod:
• Guides that come attached to the rod
• Type of grip or handle that is essential for a good rod
• Reel set for different kinds of line.
There are many kinds of fishing rods to choose from. Some rods are a single piece of bamboo or fiber-glass, while others can be dismantled into multiple pieces and can be stored away in a fishing fit. There are no nuts and bolts to assemble the dismantle-able fishing rods. Just insert the ends into each other and you are ready to go. Try bending the rod to ensure flexibility before buying the rod. This will ensure your comfort level with the equipment.
When shopping for a fishing rod you should try to get yourself one that is 6 feet long and not too heavy. If you do not want to buy a rod to begin with you could get yourself a long flexible stick that is easily fund around the place you plan to fish.
When it comes to fishing lines you are in luck. In the past there were lines made from horse’s hair. These lines had to be dried before reeling them in to prevent them from rotting. Likewise there were the silk lines that also needed to be dried for the same reason. Today we have nylon fishing lines that come in many gauges and weights. These lines do not tangle easily nor do they have to be dried. So take your pick.
In the end of it all the fishing gear, line hook, reels and rod must match to ensure you have an enjoyable fishing trip with the least of hitches. Try to add sub glasses, a fishing knife, line clippers, fist aid kit, fishing that to block out the sun and of course your snacks and drinks!

How do you feel about husbands who leave the family to go on fishing trips?
I grew up where it was all about family trips, not husband saying bye I’ll see you in a week. He says I have security issues, no, that’s just not the way I grew up.
Trust is a huge thing in any relationship. He needs his time. YOU NEED YOUR TIME. and You and He need time together, and you all need family time. Kids need time with both parents and they need individual time with eachh parent. This does not have to be an “equal time” thing, or a Schedule thing. Let times flow. While he is gone make your time special with kids or parents or siblings or friends. This is a good thing. RELAX!!!!

Fishing Flies

Although most flies represent water insects, a terrestrial fly is made to imitate a land insect that has fallen into the water. The two most common terrestrials that are imitated for fly fishing are the ant and the grasshopper.
Although there are hundreds of types of flies used for fly fishing, most of them fall into five specific categories, or types. These types are dry flies, wet flies, nymphs, streamers and buck tails, and terrestrials. The main purpose of the fly is to imitate an insect that the fish wants to eat.
A dry fly imitates a natural insect that is floating on the top of the water. Fish are very sensitive to any motion of their water and how currents move the insects they want for food. In fly fishing, if a dry fly is moving even slightly against the current, the fish will have nothing to do with it. The fly may look like something the fish recognizes but it is not acting the same an insect would. The fish recognizes it as something foreign in the water and leaves it alone.
In fly fishing, a wet fly is imitating a drowned, or drowning, natural insect and is fished below the water surface. No one is sure if the wet fly is seen as a drowning adult insect or a nymph from the perspective of the fish. Most fly fishermen today seem to believe that it is seen as a nymph. Because of this less and less wet flies are being sold. Wet fly fishing is the oldest form of fly fishing. It dates back to descriptions of the early Macedonian people.
A nymph is the stage between an egg and the adult in the life cycle of an insect. In fly fishing, flies that resemble nymphs are growing popularity. The nymph fly is just below the surface of the water. When a fish bulges the water without breaking the surface, he is nymphing. This means that the fish is eating the natural nymphs just as they are emerging from their shell. This is what a nymph fly imitates.
Streamers and buck tail flies do not imitate any part of the insect’s life cycle. These types of fly fishing flies are much larger and represent small bait fish such as sculpin minnows. The main difference between theses two types of flies is that streamers are tied with feathers, and bucktails are tied completely with hair. Fly fishing that uses these two types of flies generally requires more rod and line manipulation. The movements are supposed to duplicate the motions of the little fish.
Besides these basic five categories of flies, there are many other kinds of flies that are used for fly fishing. Some of them are a combination of one or more of the basic categories and some do not fit into any group. The most important thing to remember is that it doesn’t matter how the fly looks to you, the fisherman. It matters how the fly looks to the fish.

In 3 weeks I plan to go ice fishing for splake and brown trout on a frozen lake in northern Minnesota. ?
It is 200 acres and max depth of 140 feet. Half the lake is pretty deep the other half is under 50 feet. How deep would you start looking for trout? I have sonar equipment.
MMmmmmm.
Tough Q!
Luckily, the lake is only 200 acres! (lol)
Your best bet is to find areas where there is drop-offs into DEEP water.
In the Winter, Trout of all kinds love to feed on small Perch and Cisco’s.
Obviously, you have a map of said lake. If I were you I’d start in the 15-20 FT depth and slowly work into deeper water.
Use your Vexilar/Flasher to find sunken islands and rubble.
Look for a thermocline in deep water. Trout love a thermocline.
Good luck!

Charter Fishing

What you should know about the Fishing Charter
In every human life recreation has been an important part of life. The fishermen or the anglers are among the largest community who seek recreation and they have advantage when it comes to enjoying nature to fullest and use it for the food.
The angling pressure has been the major cause for the fishing becoming so popular in many areas and it has become way beyond the normal capacity of the lakes and streams. There are large species present and each type of angler can choose the fish of his choice or the method of his liking that appeals him the most.
This can be the very reason why many people want to spend their vacation doing fishing activity. But there are some kind of people who want to plan before indulging in this activity and therefore they require fishing charters.
Fishing charter enables and individual to enjoy and have the fun of fishing even if he does not have equipments ad means for the fishing activity. Thus the fishing charter purpose is to provide the required services involved in fishing activity.
But all the charters are not equal and certain factors should be known before taking any decisions. Here are the list of things that has to be taken care of:
a. The Trip cost
People should be aware of the charges for the trip who would like to avail the facility of fishing charter.
It is always recommended that you know about the contract agreements and deposits before committing yourself for the charter.
People should have the knowledge of the charges they are paying for and for what they are paying for. They should also be aware of the services that the package includes.
b. The duration in Each Charter trip
Many captions are lured to do a little amount of fishing before they can head back to dock. It will generally have no problem but if it cost the person extra money for the extra time spend which was more than agreed hours then it can be the cause of concern.
Therefore it is imperative for the people to be aware of the start and end time for charter.
c. The Captain
The person who wants to do the charter should be well aware of the competency and skills of the caption. You can have the best experience if the caption is experienced.
So after going through this article I am sure you will have the confidence of dealing with charters.

How profitable do you think lake charter fishing would be?
Lets say I were to charge $50/person for 2 hrs. The lakes are in Fresno, Cali Pine Flat Reservoir and Millerton Lake. Would it be worth it in the long run? I’m only making $150/wk at my current job.
To run a profitable charter you need a few things. First you need to consistantly bring your customers to areas of the lake where they can catch nice fish. You can’t use the same spots on all your trips because you will put too much fishing pressure on the spots. You need to supply good bait and good tackle and most of all you need to give them great advice. If you run a charter and can’t supply bait tackle and advice, and can’t CONSISTANTLY catch big fish then you would lose money, not make money. Oh and that’s not to mention the costs of insurance, taxes, gas etc… $50 per person for two hours, that’s $25 an hour per person (I assume on a lake boat you can only take 2-3 people at a time). Now subtract fuel, drinks, bait, tackle, insurance cost, captain’s license cost and everything else you need to run a charter and you roughly have your profit. I’d say of that with your charging $100-$150 for two hours of fishing you would not make a profit for a long time after all the expenses to get things started. To make money you first need to spend money and then hope for a return profit. Some people spend alot of money to open a business and then the business fails. If it fails all that money is wasted and you still have to pay. Might be a better idea to get a second job or ask for a raise.

Ice Fishing Equipment List

Fishing on the ice can be pleasant and rewarding with the right equipment. Using the right ice auger, fishing pole, tip-up, line, reel, and wearing the proper clothing is all part of ice fishing success. Let’s face it, if you are not comfortable, you will not enjoy the ice fishing experience. If you don’t have the proper equipment, or good working equipment, you may not have success or very much fun!
The Tip-Up is necessary in my mind because it allows you to fish in numerous spots all at the same time. I start with three holes in the ice and three tip-ups all positioned about 30 to 40 feet or more from each other so you are fishing different areas of the lake at one time rather than sitting at one spot with a fishing pole. I like to sit in one spot jigging with a fishing pole while keeping an eye out for all the tip-ups, so I’m actually fishing 4 spots all at the same time, increasing my chances of catching fish greatly. Be careful not to place the tip-ups to far away from where you are going to be. You need to make sure you are able to get there quick enough when you get a bite.
As far as tip-ups go, use good quality equipment because you don’t want problems out on the ice after going through all the trouble of drilling holes and getting your gear all together not to mention the walk to your favorite spots. I use the Beaver Dam tip-up from the Arctic Fisherman. This tip-up has been around for more than 60 years! Its quality is second to none. I have discovered that fisherman and women who buy a Beaver Dam tip-up are educated about the sport of ice fishing and aware of its quality craftsmanship, traditions, and fish catching ability. Unlike most other tip-ups the Beaver Dam tip-up is totally repairable if something does go wrong with it. Everything is repairable on the Beaver Dam Tip-up. The Arctic Fisherman company, who makes the tip-up re-grease about 1,000 tip-ups per season with a freeze proof lubricant that is still a family secret to this day. This lubricant works better than anything else on the market.
The Beaver Dam tip up is a solid brass, flag-holding, spin-trigger that is tapered on one end to release the flag rod after the lightest of bites, which means you want to make sure you are not to far away so you can set the hook quickly. Plus it also features anti-wind slots for breezy conditions, and to slow down the action for heavier strikes. The spin trigger rod is supported by an aluminum bearing and a seamless steel tube filled with freeze-proof lubricant. The underwater mechanism consists of a snag-proof free running spool topped by a heavy duty solid brass line guide designed to eliminate drag by swinging into the direction of the strike and yet heavy enough to prevent unwinding by the live bait.
This may sound like an endorsement of this product because it is. This is the best quality tip-up on the market and with factory support! Go Ice Fishing and take a child with you. Here is a DNR website that gives you a list of everything you need to go ice fishing.

What do I need to go ice fishing?
I’m a pretty experienced angler, but not with ice fishing. If we ever get some cold weather (it was upper 60s in western PA on Tuesday!!) I plan to go up to Erie or to some local lakes to fish for crappie, blue gills, pike, and walleye. I’ve never gone ice fishing before. Can you list some lures which are good and equipment which is necessary to have with you. average pound line to use, rod companies, jigs, etc.
Thanks
Lymanspond had a good answer. As far as poles and lures go get a jigging rod. It is about three feet long with one or two big guides and a spinning rel. the rod is short because you might be fishing inside a shanty. My favorite ice fishing lure is the Rapala vertical jig. I have caught more fish with them than with tipups or any other lure. A swedish pimple tipped with a piece of earthworm works well for perch. It should be good for crappie and bluegills. Most people I know who fish for pike use tipups and live bait. Hope this helps. Keep things simple and have fun. Jack traps are the best tip ups I have seen. They don’t cost much more than the cheapos.

Saltwater Fly Fishing Equipment

Fly fisherman have tackle boxes and closets dedicated to their equipment. And while a person can list dozens of ?necessities? for a fishing trip, a fisherman really only needs a few essentials.
Obviously, everyone needs a fly rod if he plans on fly fishing. A good rod will be anywhere from 6 to 10 feet long. New fisherman should note that no other piece of equipment is more important than this rod, so if you have a liberal budget, give this road financial priority.
Ironically, while some will tell you that you cannot fish without a reel, you can. Many a successful fly fisherman has landed a nice fish without the mess of a reel. He just knows how to move his line. A reel does come in handy, though, for those seeking out the larger fish. This is especially important to warm water and saltwater fisherman.
Fly line comes in a variety of strengths but in a standard length. You will usually find it in 90 foot lengths but with weights depending on the pounds you are planning on landing. Fishermen rate their line according to grain, with 7000 grains equaling one pound. You can cast a heavier line farther and obviously land bigger fish, so this works best for those windy days. Lighter line obviously costs less and can work well on calm days when searching for smaller fish. You can even buy line in two styles: level and tapered.
Fishermen searching for Moby Dick utilize backing: an extra line that will give you more than the desired 90 feet of line. Though some might tell you that you really dont need this extra line, one reel will cost you only a few bucks, and it gives fishermen the security of knowing that if they do catch a big fish, they can land him with ease thanks to their extra line.
To affix your fly to your line, you will need a leader: a piece of transparent material that attaches to both elements. The leader will be as short as 6 feet and as long as 15 feet, just depending on what youre looking for. They have ratings based on a variety of things, from the diameter of the line, to the lines breaking point, to different business classifications.
Finally, no one can fly fish without a fly. Flies are basically artificial bait for the fish. Though no fly is alive or ever was, a good fly fisherman tries to either create or pick a fly that looks alive, because no fish wants to eat a dead bug. Flies will range in style from mimicking frogs to shrimp. Creative fly fishermen create their own flies from scratch using felt, wire, and even feathers.
So we can see that really no one needs a big closet for his fly fishing materials. In the end, fly fishing shouldnt take over the whole house but should still make its owner smile.

For folks just getting into the relaxing and enjoyable sport of fly fishing, assembling the proper gear can be one of the first exciting challenges to deal with. Depending on the type and size of fish you are going after and the waters you will be fishing, you will have to first select from many options for the various parts of your “kit”. One of the core elements of your fly fishing setup will be your line though, so it is a good place to start. Let’s take a look at your different line options and learn to match them with your needs.
Sinkers Or Floaters?
If you’re just starting out, it’s best to go with a full floating line. This type is commonly used for fishing the smaller sized still waters and river trout fishing. You can save the sinking lines until your skill level is at a point where you’re willing to try larger bodies of water. With a sinking line, you’ll be able to fish a variety of depths. Also, because they are thinner than floating lines, sinkers are also good if you have to fish in very windy conditions, as they cut through the air quite well.
Match The Climate
You’ll also have to base your decision on the overall climate of the region and waters you’ll be fishing. This is because you can also choose between cold weather and warm weather options for your lines. Make certain, especially if you are fishing in extreme climates, to choose the correct one or you’ll find the line does not respond the way you’ll need it to.
Line Weight
Once you’ve figured out the above, you can then move on to one of the easier parts of the process – choosing the correct line weight. Line weights are standardized throughout the fly fishing equipment industry, so once you’ve figured out which weight – often abbreviated “wt” – works in certain situations, you can be confident that the results will be nearly the same across all the major brands.
If you’re into pan fishing and you’re going after smaller fish in small, easy waters such as narrow brooks or streams, starting with the lighter weights is a good way to go. We’re talking here about lines less than four-weight. As you move on to larger and darker waters though and start chasing after a larger catch your line weight should increase too. For example, the five to seven weight lines might be to your liking if you’re after bass or larger trout and you’ll want to go even higher once you start chasing down lunkers like muskie.
As you can see, choosing the right line depends on many factors. If you see yourself facing a variety of different waters and fish on your next fly fishing adventure, it would probably be best to bring an assortment of lines along. Along with the information here, you should be able to find an initial match to use and then further refine your choices as you gain more experience.

Nobody answered my question under the fishing section, so I will try here. I want to buy my husband a fishing trip to Europe. From my research Austria, France, or Poland looks like the best places. If someone was buying you this trip where would you prefer to go? Also, do you know what “classic fishing” is called? All the trips I have seen are for fly fishing, and my husband does not fly fish. His equipment is for the classic type fishing. And, can you tell me what half-board fishing is please?
My boyfriend wants to fish the river ebru? in Spain, meant to be really good!! He does Lake Fishing, i dont know the proper term? But France is good for fishing as well, better than Poland and Austria I would say. Google France and Spain fishing trips and loadsa companies will come up.

Can anybody tell me what type of camera takes this type of photo? (link inside)?
http://i36.tinypic.com/2i0qkix.jpg
I’ve always wondered what type of equipment was necessary in order to take a picture that had such a grainy, vintage look to it (i really admire the fish eye too). If you don’t know exactly what type of camera was used in order to take the picture above but have an idea to what it could be or maybe any similar products, I would appreciate it if you could list some of them off (along with the pricing if it’s not too much to ask). Thanks!
If you look carefully at the picture you will see it looks more like a shot of a security mirror rather than a fisheye lens. So could have been taken with anything but I would guess a cheap p&s.

Can someone tell me how to make fishing boats and offshore platforms in Civilizaiton IV?
How do you get the damn work boates to do anything? I have tried F ket and O key but they dont sem to work
First, you need a resource for the work boat to work, either Fish, Clams, Crabs, Whales, or Oil. Fish, Clams, and Crabs additionally need Fishing to be worked; Whales need Optics; and Oil requires Plastics. Then you simply send the work boat to the square with the resource and click the button that makes it improve the resource. Lastly, the resource needs to be within your cultural borders. Very simple. I don’t see why you’d bother with hot-keys, this a turn-based game, kick back, relax, you have all the time in the world.

If you’re thinking of buying a fishing boat you have a number of choices. Basically you can buy an aluminum fishing boat, a timber boat or a figerglass fishing boat.
Personally I’m a huge fan of aluminum boats, and would never buy a fiberglass boat. Here’s why.
You’re buying a boat because you want to be fishing, not working on boats. If you want to be working on boats buy a timber fishing boat and I can guarantee you’ll spend many hours working on it. If you love that then fine, but for me I want to be fishing, not working on boats.
So timber is out. But what about fiberglass compared to aluminum. After all you see a lot of fiberglass boats out there.
What do you want in a fishing boat? Well you want it to be tough. Water resistant. Impact resistant. Low maintenance. Long lasting. Light. Easy to use.
Aluminum is all of these and more. It’s extremely tough. It is welded not riveted, so is totally waterproof. It is highly impact resistant. That doesn’t mean that it can’t be holed, but it’s pretty hard to do. Rather than get a hole aluminum tends to dent. This is great. If you hit something, as I recently did, you end up with a dent and head home feeling silly. If you hit something in a timber or a figerglass boat chances are high that you end up with a hole, and someone needs to come and get you because your boat is sinking.
Aluminum has a very high strength to weight ratio. So it’s light and easy to handle, both in the water and onto and off a trailer or even a roof of a car. It’s incredibly strong and will take a stack of punishment. It needs very little maintenance and will last forever.
A fiberglass boat on the other hand, has some drawbacks. It is heavier. It is less resistant to impact, and more easily holed. It takes a little more maintenance, although much less than a timber boat. And if treated badly it can absorb water. Be careful not to damage the gellcoat, or if you do repair it before you go out again.
And whereas an aluminum boat retains a very good resale value because they are so tough and durable, fiberglass boats can be more easily damaged and for this reason may not retail their value as well.
So for me it’s an aluminum fishing boat every time. I’ve had all 3, timber, fiberglass and aluminum, and will be sticking to aluminum.
And the best thing about aluminum boats is that they are so tough and durable that it is far better to buy a used aluminum boat rather than a new one. A new boat is expensive, and like all things new will lose a lot of it’s value as soon as you buy it. So a used aluminum boat is much cheaper, and will retain it’s value to when you sell it you’ll probably get most or all of your money back. I bought a used boat 2 years ago and it’s worth as much or even more than when I bought it.
So if you’re pondering your choices between the different types of fishing boat, make it a used aluminum fishing boat. You won’t regret it.

What are some basic questions when purchasing a fishing boat?
I live on Lake Erie and would like to purchase a fishing boat approx. 12-14 feet. Gas or electric motor? What do I look for as far as rust?
What are the best bets for spending about a grand or so? Thank you
Look for a 14 footer with a deep V-hull. On Lake Erie you do not want a flat bottom jon boat because the weather and waves can get pretty rough.
For a boat that size you would probably be happy with a 15-25hp motor. You could get away with a 9.9, but your speed would suffer.
There should be no rust on the boat at all. Aluminum does not rust, and a rusty boat is sure to have problems in the very near future.
Make sure that the boat is seaworthy before purchasing. Look for loose rivets, holes, dings, dents, or other signs of potential abuse or regular wear and tear.
For 1 grand you are not going to get the titanic, or a luxurious boat of any kind, but you can get a decent, safe, and seaworthy small boat in that price range and should not settle for a bad boat.
Now that’s a fishing Boat

How threatened is fish to our food supply chain from disasters like BP, mercury, ocean dumping & over fishing?
From a recent article that I had extracted from Yahoo about Fish-less Oceans (see link below).
I had it placed in my blog as part of my responsibility. I had been into sports fishing and like all sports fishermen, we’re worried about dwindling fish stock.
I myself worked in the petrochemical sector for 28 years. While there are improvements made in reduction of chemical effluents into the water course but the amount of industries has quadrupled and there still remain irresponsible industries not complying to laws or rather documented laws (not thoroughly enforced). I do agree that up to today ocean dumping is still going on beyond our boundaries. Sea going vessels have been seen off loading their garbage into the seas.
Good question but lets us all do our part.
