With over 750 miles of coastline, anglers fishing in Costa Rica have a multitude of options. It’s a big ocean out there much of it void of fishing action. The key to successful offshore fishing is knowing where to find the fish.
There is no replacement for local expertise when it comes to finding fish. Every good captain knows where to find the fish, but you may find the following information helpful when exploring new fishing grounds.
The most important tip for finding fish is Watch for Variation. Variation can come in several forms, some obvious and some more subtle.
Los Corrientes
The tried and true method to finding billfish in Costa Rica is fishing in “los corrientes”. These currents can be spotted by a subtle change in color and in temperature. Baitfish and predators are plentiful in these currents. An experienced captain will work the edges of “los corrientes”. When fishing from Quepos, Jaco, or Herradura, captains will find “los corrientes” about twenty-five to thirty miles from shore during peak billfish season.

Oceanfloor Geography
Underwater geopgraphic structures such as canyons can increase the flow of ocean currents. The rapidly moving currents can trap bait fish and large game fish move in after the trapped bait. As with the seasonal currents, these currents may be spotted by looking for subtle changes in water color or surface temperature. Of course an experienced Costa Rican offshore fishing guide will have one eye on the bottom (GPS) and one eye on the surface looking for the subtle changes.
Floating Debris
The rainy season in Costa Rica is the hottest time of year for dorado, oftentimes bull dorado weighing over fifty pounds. The experienced fisherman knows that fish love structure, even temporary structure resulting from debris washing out to sea from rain swollen rivers. Fishing deep around weed lines, floating pallets, or logs can yield a great dorado run. Other game fish can be found beneath the debris as well.
Underwater Structure
Wrecks and reefs provide structure for large bottom fish including Cubera snapper and grouper. The structure is also home to plankton and other small organisms that attract baitfish which in turn attract big game fish looking for a meal. Remember that the main structure may be overfished while potential satellite sites around the structure are teaming with life. Larger gamefish often hang out at these quieter satellite sites.
Slicks
Keep you eye out for oily slicks on the waters surface. As big game fish such as dorado, tuna, marlin and sailfish are feeding they chase bait to the surface. Fish oils are released and the slick results. If you have found a bait slick you have found sometime of fish feeding. If you are lucky it will the trophy catch you are looking for.
Birds
Offshore birds are always fishing in Costa Rica. They are searching for bait pods, tuna feeding, or trolling billfish. Pay particular attention to the frigate birds especially those that are circling in one location. The experienced fishing guide knows that a lone frigate bird can lead you to a trophy Tuna, Marlin, or Sailfish.
When fishing offshore in Costa Rica, the importance of local expertise can not be overstated. Natural underwater geographic structures are consistent and local Costa Rica Fishing Guides have committed these to GPS and memory giving them the edge when fishing for big game fish in these waters. In addition, an experienced captain and mate will have developed keen eyes. I have seen Captains spot schooling Tuna 3 miles away, just by looking for disturbed water.

what do i need for offshore fishing?
im going fishing this week offshore and was wondering what clothes i will need. ive got all the gear just need to know what to take?
Really depends on the part of the world you’re in and the current weather. Off So. Cal, even in the summer, it can be downright cool offshore, and if the wind comes up, it can be pretty uncomfortable with the spray.
In general, dress in layers — a light jacket, a sweatshirt, then a tee shirt. Even if it’s going to be 90 degrees, a light windbreaker is a good idea in case the wind comes up.
On a party or large charter boat, I’d advise short rubber boots (then you don’t have to watch out when the crew hoses the deck); otherwise cloth tennis shoes. Open-toed sandals are a bad idea — on a rocking boat it’s common to bang your toes on things or have someone else step on your foot.
Don’t forget a hat — baseball style to shade your eyes, or a broad brim one to shade your face and neck — sunglasses, and sunscreen.

4 Carp Fishing Secrets – We Reveal Big Carp Tips For Bait Rigs And Tackle
When it comes to catching big carp, you will benefit from some carp fishing secrets, we all know that it is vital to understand certain crucial factors that will at least give us a fighting chance to hook that elusive lake record carp. Catching big carp should not be down to just chance but someone we can be confident about achieving and if you want that edge to start catching bigger carp then carry on reading and next time you go to the river bank or your syndicate water you can make the bagging of a record carp a reality.
Your 4 Carp Fishing Tips and Tactics – So How Do I Catch Big Carp?
1) Understanding why carp can be elusive is the most important factor to being able to catch the big ones. Carp get used to seeing standard baits being presented on fancy rigs that can make the fish stand up and think to themselves – Danger. You need to present a bait in a reasonable manner and on a carp fishing rig that suits the environment on the bottom on the lake. Lake information should be obtainable by the bailiff and they are usually more than happy to let you know certain quirks about a particular swim and to what type of lake bed you are casting onto.
2) Big Carp also seem to have more developed awareness to baiting patterns and an over fished swim may lead to the carp filter feeding of the dissolving bait already having been put there by over keen anglers who think that throwing in a ton of bait will actually help them catch. Again, it is worth getting to know information about each swim of the particular lake and when the last carp was caught. It is really good when you can get into a swim that is bare of old bait and the fish start to feed again on your whole baits – you are then in for a full catching session so don’t expect to get much sleep if you are doing an all-nighter.
3) Baiting for Carp is a much discussed topic for top anglers but it has been proven that certain factors influence the carp into feeding on dissolving or whole baits. If you are fishing a swim for just a couple of nights and you can see lots of splashing around and occasional cloudy patches on the top of the water where the carp have been splashing it is true that the dissolving bottom bait is the normal cause. Whilst, dissolving bait is available to the carp they will often feed on this as they have become used it to this as being safe to eat. However, if you present new carp bollies or other bait they will still prefer the filter feeding until it has run out and then will venture upon your new baits. The rule of thumb and best practice for the big carp is to pre-bait small amounts of new bait and wait until you know that a swim has been quite for at least 3-4 days and then get established in the swim and do a 4-7 night session which will result in good carp catches and maybe get you that elusive carp record.
4) Make sure you have all the tackle and spare equipment that you think you may need for a good carping session. We know that carp tackle can be expensive these days but if you are serious about catching, carp fishing secrets and tips aside, then you should at least have a mid range carp rod and spend as much as you can on the bait runner reels, I still use and prefer Shimano. Make sure you have good bite alarms and you take a few spare batteries with you. Remember, you can always upgrade your other carp equipment but it is best to start with a good package of rods, reels and bite alarms so you minimize having to waste that money when you find that the tackle you first purchased may not be up to the job after 6 months.
The more you can understand about the proven methods to catching big carp as early as possible will stand you in good stead for future carp catching success. There is much written about catching good carp and you should take the time to read and read more on the subject as knowledge is King – having loads of fantastic carp fishing tackle doesn’t mean that you are guaranteed to catch the elusive fish.

Question about KOI and fish in general…?
Hi there. I am planning on setting up a small-medium size pond. I wish to put some nice ornamental fish (1 type only). I am stuck between KOI CARP and GOLDFISH (single tailed ‘comets’ goldfish). Which is best?
I have bought the pond liner and put it in place, filled it with water and added some treatments to neutralise any chemicals. What else would I need to keep the pond healthy – I AM ON A STRICT BUDGET and don’t want to buy expensive filters or unnecessary equipment – JUST THE BASICS. What things should I buy… Any recommendations regarding shops / makers?
Also, does anyone have any ‘house tricks’ that help them with pondkeeping?
All help would be GREATLY appreciated… As I am near breaking point!
PS. I’m in the United Kingdom, London.
since you are in a tight budget use gravity fed filter then buy a pump you can afford thats it
Spring is here. You head out early in the morning, your fishing gear packed into the back of your SUV. You’re looking forward to a day on the lakeshore and are hoping to catch a pickerel or perch.
When you arrive, you pack your gear to the rocky shore and decide, for the fun of it, to use a nightcrawler for bait. You slide it onto your hook and cast. The bait sinks below the surface. Bang! A fish strikes. It is a good sized catch and a fighter. You can see it flipping and thrashing in the cool water, trying to free itself of the hook. You play the fish until it tires, bring it into shore and scoop it into your net. Much to your surprise, you’ve landed a northern pike.
Lake fishing is any type of fishing that is done on a lake. It can be shore fishing from a pier or marina or from a rocky shoreline. It can also be boat fishing, trolling or fly fishing. There are a wide variety of fish species found in lakes around the world. Lake species include bass, trout, catfish, perch, pickerel, northern pike, muskellunge, sturgeon, walleye and salmon.
If you plan to fish from a boat, you will need to own one, rent one, or go lake fishing with someone who has one. To fish from a boat, you will need a rod, reel, tackle, trolling equipment and a lake or fish map. If you are a beginner, use a basic lake fishing kit. This includes a six to eight foot graphite or fiberglass rod with a basic closed or open faced reel. Fishing line should be 8 to 15 pound-test, depending on the fish species you are targeting and the depth. Fishing near the surface requires 8 pound-test, while fishing the middle or bottom requires 15 pound test. The larger the fish species, the higher pound-test line you will need.
You will also need a variety of different sized hooks, ranging from medium to large. Split shot sinkers are best. If you are planning on fishing the bottom, larger weights will be necessary. Remember, when buying sinkers, be sure they are lead free in order to protect the environment. Floats can vary from cork to plastic to foam. Torpedo floats work great as well. Floats of various sizes can be used, but remember, smaller is always better. You don’t want the fish to see your float.
A variety of bait, both live and artificial is used for different species of lake fish.
Trout
Live bait for trout includes worms, insects, insect larvae and crayfish. Artificial bait includes streamers, spoons, spinners and dry and wet flies.
Bass
Live bait includes worms, shad, insects, insect larvae, frogs, crayfish and minnows. Artificial bait includes spinners, streamers, Mepps, spoons, jigs, crankbaits and clousers.
Walleye
Live bait includes nightcrawlers, crayfish, minnows, chubs and leaches. Artificial trolling bait that is best is jointed minnows and spinner rigs.
Salmon
Live bait includes worms, prawns, crustaceans, insects and insect larvae. Artificial bait includes lures, flies, plugs, streamers and spinners. Prepared bait such as egg sacs and scents also work well.
Catfish
Catfish in a lake are usually channel cat. They are attracted to cut bait, worms, crayfish or peeled crayfish tails, mollusks, minnows, cheeseballs, breadballs, shrimp, chicken entrails and liver.
Pickerel
Pickerel feed on aquatic insects and invertebrates. Use nightcrawlers, minnows, crayfish, insects and frogs. Artificial bait includes worms, spinners, spoons, streamers and Mepps.
Perch
Perch feed on minnows, insects, insect larvae, crayfish, snails, nightcrawlers, grubs and maggots. Artificial bait includes worms, lures, spinners, streamers and jigs. Use small lures when fishing for perch, as they have small mouths.
Northern Pike
Pike are predators. They will take nightcrawlers, minnows and smelt. Pike, especially females heavy with eggs, prefer dead bait because it provides an easy meal. Artificial bait includes wobbling spoons, spinners, split minnows and red and white spoons. If you are removing a hook from a northern pike, use needle nose pliers to avoid injury.
Muskellunge
Live bait for Musky includes live fish bait that is 10 to 12 inches. Suckers work well, as do leeches, frogs, insects and sunfish. Artificial bait includes spoons, bucktails and large plugs. Muskies are fighters and will strip reels, break rods, mutilate bait and bend hooks.
Sturgeon
Sturgeon like fresh bait and are bottom feeders. They are attracted to clams, eel, crayfish, smelt, salmon eggs, shad, nightcrawlers and fish heads.
Lake Trolling
Trolling is the use of either large or artificial bait pulled through the water behind a moving boat. It is used on lakes, especially for trout and walleye. The boat can be powered by a motor or oars. The bait can be trolled at any depth and is intended to resemble live fish. Trolled plugs, spoons and flies can be fished deep by adding weights or using leadcore line. Live bait is fished below a sliding float when trolling.
If you wish to take up lake fishing and have concerns over equipment or bait that you should use, ask an experienced lake angler to give you some tips, or invite them to come along on a lake fishing trip. Any experienced lake angler will be able to help you with equipment, bait, casting and trolling issues. This could be a family member, friend, neighbor or a staff member at a bait and tackle shop that specializes in lake fishing.

Fishing In Deep Waters? Don’t Forget Your Fly Fishing Waders
You may remember getting reprimanded as a kid for leaving your cycle in the backyard overnight or being corrected and punished for forgetting to put your playthings away after you finished using them; well, that is all a part of growing up and a memory that is sure to be common to lots of fishermen too. We mention this here today because of the need for the right equipment for anglers to make that perfect fishing trip more enjoyable – and learning to take care of fishing gear is part of every smart fisherman’s safeguard to providing more fun once you’ve invested in a pair of good quality fly fishing waders that protect you and let you venture into deeper waters to maximize scope of getting a catch! You may recall the disappointment you’ve felt as a kid on leaving action hero toys on a duty posting outdoors and found them ruined by a local tabby – well, this further emphasizes the importance of looking after your belongings, including your fly fishing waders, after they’ve serviced you on the last fishing trip – just as you would care and protect your other things.
Care and maintenance of your expensive or budget fly fishing waders is very crucial to making the next fishing trip a memorable one – for the right reasons – as nothing is more a kill-joy on an outdoor sports vacation than knowing your equipment is the wrong kind or not up to the adventure! Many a time, even the less costly pair of fly fishing waders can put a dent in your fishing gear budget, as good quality gear doesn’t come cheap – even on sales and mark-down prices; learning to take care of them is the only way to ensure you have secured your hundred dollar plus worth for many more fishing trips to come and done the needful by keeping them clean and dry after you’ve finished using them.
The importance of protecting your fly fishing waders cannot be stressed enough: this is a vital part of any fly fisherman’s essential gear and is a shield from sharp rocks, uneven or rough ground conditions besides allowing you to wade into deeper waters while you stay warm and dry – without risking your clothes getting soiled too! Therefore, as long as you are scouting for better fishing holes and need to skim the waters for your catch, you need to depend on a good quality pair of fly fishing waders that assist you in your job; take care not to puncture them, though, as this is hard to mend. If you check for holes in your fly fishing waders when you return from the trip and clean and put them away, you won’t have to learn the hard way – as others do – about frustration at ruined gear on the next trip!
Experts recommend that just depending on a higher price tag on the fly fishing waders you buy is no way to guarantee how durable they are and therefore it is very important to use them with care and double-check for any faults, tears or leaks when you return from a fishing trip, besides of course, cleaning and drying them before storing them away. Shine a flashlight on the inside of the waders in a darkened area to check for holes or submerge them in water while applying pressure from the outside – you’ll know you’re in trouble if small water droplets form! Get a patch to mend these punctures ASAP – so your waders are ready and fixed for the next outing.
If you hang up your waders when you return from a trip (for drying thoroughly) and follow the above tips, you can count on many years of service from your waders!

Have you ever been black lure bass fishing? I haven’t, so I thought that I would do a little research on it so that I would know a little more about it. When you go black lure bass fishing there are a couple of things that you should know and I would like to take the time to tell you a little about what I have learned over the course of my study.
Black Bass
Black bass live in clear, nonflowing waters that have aquatic vegetation, where food and cover are available. They live in brackish to freshwater habitats and can live in water sixty five to eighty five degrees. Black bass are located at depths less than twenty feet.
Young fish eat grass shrimp and crayfish and fingerling bass eat insects, small fish and crayfish. Adult bass can eat mainly anything that gets in their way. For instance:
Before you go on your black lure bass fishing trip you should know that black bass will strike any kind of artificial lure or live bait. Like I have said before, I don’t know much about the sport of black lure bass fishing but what I do know is that if you decided to go on a black lure fishing trip, this would be your most exciting one.
There are many bass fishing trips that you can go on but you need to find the area that you are the best at and go from there. However, if you are up for a challenge you should go on the adventure that is best suited for you.
Before going on a black lure bass fishing trip you should make sure that you have everything you are going to need before taking off. I am going to list a couple of items that should be on your checklist:
1) Life Jacket
2) Fishing rod
3) Fishing line, if you have not already properly equipped yourself
4) Artificial Bait
5) Lures
6) Live bait
7) Plenty of hooks
Going on the Trip of a Lifetime
Any kind of fishing trip can mean the trip of a lifetime if it’s something you love doing. So if black bass fishing is for you, go for it! If it’s something you are just getting into, make sure you know exactly what it is you are getting into. Fishing can be stinky, dirty, and tiresome. But if you love the feel of catching that bass and soaking up the glory then a black bass fishing trip should do you justice.

Cedar Creek is located about 15 miles from Athens Texas between US Highway 175 and Texas Highway 274. The Surface area is about 32,623 acres, with a Maximum depth of 53 feet. It was Impounded in 1965.
The lake Conservation Pool Elevation is 322 feet, with a fluctuation of around 4 feet annually. Water clarity is moderately clear on the lower lake to muddy ion the upper lake.
Lake Vegetation is floating Native emergent and submergent, in coves and creeks in the lower end of Cedar Creek.
Lake Fish Species: Largemouth bass White & hybrid striped bass Bluegill Channel, blue & flathead catfish White & black crappie
Cabins For Rent: Cabins are adequate on the Lake, but you must do your homework. There are a wide range of daily prices from $40 to $95 with weekly rates adjusted lower. A few Cedar Creek Fishing Guides live on their home lake and more are offering cabins on their own property. This is an ideal situation because in addition to the seclusion and staying away from the crowds, you have the guide’s expertise and Cedar Creek lake fishing tips. Fishing Reports: Keep yourself up to date about the latest Cedar Creek Fishing. If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get the latest Cedar Creek info for your trip. The local fishing guides offer this on their websites. Be sure to get the right Cedar Creek Fishing Report. Black bass fishing is best in the lower lake where the water is more clear. The lake record is 14.65 pounds. Cat fish are abundant, with many more blues than channel cat fish. Striped bass are stocked every year with the lake record of 13.19 pounds.
Fishing Cover and Structure: Most of the submerged vegetation is located near the backs of coves in the lower lake. Some emergent vegetation is present in the top end of the lake but the water is shallow. I suggest looking for underwater islands across the lake from Caney and Clear creeks
Tips: Anglers usually follow the birds to locate schools of white bass and stripers. The fishing is usually good all year but is much better in the spring months. Look for black bass in the weeds in the back ends of the coves and in the lower third of Cedar Creek. Recommend live bait or cut shad or for catfish.
How is the Bass Fishing in Jenks Lake, Southern California?
I would like information from anyone who has fished the lake or knows anything about it. I would like to know about the bass in particular. Population, species, size, etc. It would be greatly appreciated if you helped me out.
The secret at Jenks Lake is that this lake holds some quality bass. Unlike the trout, the bass are a resident population. A few of these fish grow into the bigger-class fish that feed on the DFG trout most people are catching.
There aren’t a lot of these larger bass at this lake and they are very wary, but there are many smaller bass to keep the angler occupied while searching.
To target bass, try fishing plastic worms or crank baits along the edges of the weeds that develop around the lake during the summer.
If possible, photograph and release larger bass to help protect the population of these resident fish.
The best areas to target trout are from the pier or along the the north and south shores. The east and west ends and inside of weedlines are best for bass.
Jenks is perfect for fishing from a float tube or kayak. Fly fishermen will find Jenks especially attractive for tubing.
There is no launch ramp, so any boat or tube will need to be carried to the lake.
There is a paved path around most of the lake and the pier is wheelchair accessible to put all anglers in the center of the action.
The area is often visited by bears in the evenings, but they are shy so they tend to not bother people.
To avoid bear trouble, do not leave food or belongings unattended and give a wide berth if one comes your way. Do not leave food visible in the car.
Many bass are in the 2-3 pound range, and even some about 5 pounds, but they are very skittish.

Don’t Settle for Less, Get the Best Fly Fishing Gear Now
Fly fishing is now a sport and a hobby that most people are enjoying. The main reason for the fast-spreading fame of it is the relaxing effect it has on the body, the entertaining activity it provides and the beautiful scenery we see before our eyes. Before, fly fishing or just plain fishing in general is done to provide food in the table and for survival. However, today, it is done for enjoyment and relaxation.
Unlike other sports it doesn’t involve any physical exhaustion and unlike other vacation trips, it actually engages our full attention. This beautiful combination of relaxing us at the same time keeping us on our feet is what makes it a unique and enjoyable activity. The simple ways of doing it is so easy that even a beginner can easily do it. However, it is still challenging enough to keep the veterans interested and hooked. Basically this activity has some special tools. These tools are called fly fishing gear. We basically need a fly rod, fly reel, and fly lines to do it. These things compose the fly fishing gear that we must have. Without one of these could mean that we cannot do it because we are not equipped for it. How can we ever do something without the right tools?
In fishing resorts, fly fishing gear is usually available either for rent or for sale. This is for the convenience of those who are using there facilities to do it. The fishing gear plays a vital role in fly fishing. The quality of a fly fishing gear is also another thing to consider. Good quality fly fishing gear could greatly affect the progress of a beginner. Even veterans would patronize the good quality fishing gear. This is because it would be made easier if the quality of the tools we use is the best.
By making sure that we have a good quality fly fishing gear, we also assure ourselves that our tools will not snap in two when we catch a huge fish and that it would still be functional even after a number of years of fishing. Our safety is also involved when we consider buying a fishing gear. Although the chances of hurting ourselves over a tool are minimal, we cannot risk it. This especially true if we plan to go fishing in deep waters using a small boat. A lot of things could happen and accidents do not give warnings beforehand. So to be able to enjoy a safe fishing activity, good quality fly fishing gear must be top priority.
If you are going to own a salt water fish aquarium, the first thing you should do is learn as much about these creatures and their natural environments as possible. Many people don’t even know what the difference between salt water tropical fish and fresh water fish is; they just know that they like the bright colors and unique designs of the salt water varieties. But if you are going to have salt water aquarium fish in your home you better know what you’re getting into. While this is one of the most rewarding hobbies around, these fish are by no means simple and easy to take care of.
The first thing that makes salt water tropical fish so unique is the environment they come from, which differs greatly from that of fresh water fish. Since their natural environment is generally so stable, salt water fish do not readily adapt to major changes in water condition. This is one of the reasons why keeping a salt water fish aquarium is so complex. Salt water fish are also almost all invertebrates. This all adds up to a very delicate group of fish with very specific instructions for care and maintenance.
Once you decide that you want to have salt water aquarium fish in your home, you will also need to invest in some very specific equipment. In addition to the standard aquarium supplies, a good salt water reef tank should have special gravel made from crushed coral, sea salt mix and a hydrometer. It’s also suggested that you never keep these delicate fish in an aquarium any smaller than 50 gallons – and for many species, much bigger would be better. Having an adequately sized tank with a complete set of equipment is better than going for a massive tank that lacks the required mechanisms, though, as long as it isn’t smaller than 50 gallons.
Taking care of salt water tropical fish isn’t easy, but with so many rewards from this satisfying hobby it is well worth the time and effort. The sheer beauty and mystery of a well kept aquarium will be enough to mesmerize anyone who visits your home.

Fishing Gear: the Use of Quality Equipment to Achieve That Big Catch
People go fishing for both leisure and relaxation. It is indeed such a beautiful sight to see the crystal clear lake, and to experience the serene and tranquil feel of the water, whilst enjoying the rest of the day to cast a line. However, prior to going on board your fishing vessel, proper fishing gear is necessary to provide you with a comfortable and enjoyable fishing expedition.
Choosing the finest fishing rod requires the use of a comfortable dowel. There are myriads of choices to be found on websites and at local stores, and all you need to do is to search for the best rods that will suit your fishing needs.
Fishing rods are made in a variety of materials, such as graphite, fiberglass or bamboo. Let us try to define each of them to aid your own judgment in choosing a rod, taking note of the functions you find fitting. The graphite fishing rod is mainly used by beginners. If you opt for a fishing rod that provides better performance and sturdiness then this rod is much safer to use. The fishing quality provided by this rod has well served fishermen and enthusiasts alike who have kept this rod as their trusty fishing partner.
The fiberglass rod is probably the one that is the most widely used these days, having a strength and durability that provides superior quality and precision. However, the fiberglass fishing rod is a bit on the heavy side, and so can be rather tiring to use. Bamboo fishing rods are considered to be one of the best types of fishing rod, and this seems to be the most used by actual fishermen. Bamboo has the advantage of being light and flexible compared with other types of rod. There are various brands on the market, such as Partridge, Sage, Shakespeare, Daiwa and Greys, and there is plenty of information available that will help you decide which fishing rod to choose. So whether you are aiming for a small catch or a big catch, there should be a suitable brand for you.
Another item of fishing gear that every fishing enthusiast should have is a fishing bag. These are mostly leather bags that have pockets on them and nets, which are very useful to have when you are fishing. There are fishing bags available both for men and for women, and these are mostly found in stores to help you carry all your fishing equipment, and prepare you for a comfortable time fishing.
Other items of fishing gear that you can find at fishing stores are fly lines, lures, fly typing and preserved shrimps. There are also vests and jackets that you can wear for better body protection. Another important piece of gear that you must keep in mind is suitable footwear. Rubber boots are generally considered to be the best footwear for fishing, and these are available in a variety of brands.
Going fishing will never be complete without the right fishing gear. These bits and pieces are of the essence and greatly affect how well you perform, and ultimately whether you will be taking home that big catch.
My Father sent me a gift card for $150 from Cabelas.
Should I get a Daiwa “Sol”? A nice leather over- night duffle? A Pflueger “Supreme”?
???????????????????????????????????
Would like some ideas for someone who has alot of fishing equipment already.
Thanks guys!
Wow it seems your lucks in, lol. I know the feeling when you’ve got cash or a gift card to spend but don’t really know what to spend it on since you’ve got loads already. So my advice would be take your time choosing as I’ve been there and bought somethings i was never going to use. My advice to you would be clothing, how about a nice light weight waterproof jacket such as those made by loop, or guide. they are expensive but will really keep you dry and they look good too.
Or how about a gps, or a humin bird fish finder.
Fly fishing is a very different form of fishing. In this technique of fishing an angler does not rely on a weight at the end of the line to cast the line. He does not even have a ‘float’ on the surface of the water to monitor any nibbling beneath the water.
The weight in conventional forms of fishing causes an unnatural ‘plop’ on the surface of the water alerting any fish in the area of unnatural activity and they are in turn very weary of the bait near or about the weight. In fly fishing the angler relies on the weight of the line to cast the lure. This is extremely difficult and needs some practice before it can be carried out to perfection.
The lightweight fly is cast at the end of a light weight line and lands on the surface of the water softly, much like the natural insect the fish will be used to having as food. Such is the technique of fly fishing that the angler must make a dry fly move on the surface of the water in a very natural manner or else the fish will not bite. For instance, if a fly moves against the current the fish will suspect trouble because it is used to eating all insects that move along with the current. So even if the fly looks like the natural food of the fish but it is moving unnaturally against the current the fish will ignore it.
It is important ot know the fish as well as the food the fish is used to eating. Knowing the food the fish eats will allow you to choose just the correct food for the fish. The fish know that it is not time for a nymph to hatch at that time of the year so luring a fish with nymph will be a very futile exercise.
Fly fishing is not all about catching fish. It is about studying the nature and habits of the fish as well as the insects and other food he fish eat. It is all about studying the water bodies and the way weather conditions affect fly fishing. Catching a fish is good but the very experience of a fly fishing expedition is unmatched entirely.
The equipment required for fly fishing is proof that this ancient profession and technique of fishing has taken on he dimensions of a science and had been enhanced as an art. So it will be correct to say that fly fishing is a science and an art. The design of the rods for fly fishing and the line as well as the many kinds of lure to catch the various species of fish are all the effort of years of research and dedication of millions who have significantly contributed to this wonderful and fulfilling sport.

Types of Services Provided
There different types of services provided as below,
Commercial Flights
Commercial flights are the cheapest as they serve on a seat basis opposed to private charter where you charter the entire aircrafts. There only one commercial flight from Kenya to Somalia ,Mogadishu International Airport and daily flights from Kenya,Jomo Kenyatta to Juba and 3 times weekly from Wilson to Rumbek in south sudan. There also commercial flights to Kinshasha,Goma,Rwanda,Burundi,Central Africa Republic but reservations has to be done amonth in advance.
Adhoc Flights(Private Charter Flights)
This is the most convinient and expensive mode of air transport but ideal for bussiness executive and project owners whose scheduled does not match the commercial flights. It more expensive than lease as there is no incentive given irrespective of the flights that you do in any given month. It is advisable for emergency and one on ,one off use but for bulky work use lease hire. The adhoc flight is advantageous us you need not to do any commitment like in lease or contract flying where you will have to committ a number of hours for a period of time and whether you fly or not you will have to pay.
Contract Flights ( Wet Lease or Dry Lease)
This is ideal for organization with bulk work of excess in 60 hours flying in amonth. You can decide to take dry lease on AI rate whereby you will employ your own crew, ddo your own maintenance, fuel, pay landing, navigation, parking and clearance fees and the lessor charges you aircraft and insurance but based on the set operational procedure and with a close check by the lessor.Wet lease is when you take aircraft on ACMI rate(Aircraft,Crew,Maintenance,Insurance) and pay for fuel, landing, crew per diem, accommodation ,meals, laundry, crew change return ticket, validation and work permit for pilots and engineer. The way to go is lease as you have the control of the entire operations and when you fly beyond the guaranteed hours the rate per hour reduces thus giving you a cost reduction advantage opposed to adhoc when this is not considered. With lease you will have the aircraft at your discretion and even if the lessor has to use it,consultations has to be done and agreed upon.
The Fleet
There are aircrafts like C-130 20 toner and the Buffallo 5 toner are suitable for air drops in hunger and war stricken areas with poor transport infrastructure. The Let 410 ,Buffalo,Caravan 208 are suitable to airstrip which are tidy as they have shart take off and landing perfomance. The crew needs to have an extensive experience especially in Airforce and bush flying to be able to cope with this kind of flying as you flying in countries where bombs, shooting is the order of the day and you need to have extra courage.
With all this it has made air transport the key player in Humanitarian & Relief work to unaccesible areas especially remote easier and quicker. With the new technology having introduced and manufactured aircrafts with ddifferent perfomance depending on the area of operation has also put the aviation a step ahead in the bussiness world. Also with the introduction of convertable aircrafts from cargo to passenger has made lives easier and all you have to do plan according take cargo come back with passenger and vise versa.
For every fishing enthusiast or angler it is important to have the best equipment possible to fish with. Good equipment is important in every sport more so in fishing where reliable equipment is as important as skill to catch fish. A combination of a little skill and great equipment can matter a lot in what you catch. There are some companies in the world known for manufacturing great fishing equipment, these companies have been producing reliable fishing gear for years and every passing year they add innovation to their products to give anglers better and more reliable equipment to meet their needs. Zebco is one such company that is known around the world especially in the United States for making trust worthy fishing gear for all types of anglers. Zebco today is one of the best known brands providing fishing equipment to the American public. The Zebco Tackle Company has today become one of the largest fishing equipment companies in the world; their equipment is known for its ease of use because zebco markets a design it introduced and pioneered in 1949 that virtually eliminates backlash from the fishing reel. Zebco makes equipment in all price ranges and for all skill levels of anglers so its equipment is as popular with professionals as it is with amateur anglers.
Ironically zebco started out as the “zero hour bomb company” producers of timed explosive devices used in the petroleum industry but due to a declining market they were looking at new products, in 1949 a new reel was designed by a man named R.D.Hull which eliminated backlash from the fishing reel, an innovation that caught the eye of Zebco. Zebco decided to abandon the explosive business and start producing the newly designed reel that has today become one of the best known fishing reels in the world. Backlash is a problem with fishing reels especially with more advanced fishing gear for professionals, zebco solved that problem with their new design and till today they boast a varied line of models with the same easy cast design that they introduced to the fishing equipment market years ago.
Zebco’s signature spin cast reels reduce line twists and snare complaints encountered in other traditional reels. Zebco’s reel is very effective even with very light lures and baits another feature that others reels do not offer. The spin cast reel is usually mounted on the top of the rod; this type of reel is fitted with an external nose cone to protect the fixed spool. Zebco’s design is most famous and popular with beginners because of its ease of use and is often used as a teaching tool to young beginners being introduced to angling. Zebco offers several models with prices ranging from $20 – $100 all models have the same easy cast design that Zebco pioneered over half a century ago. Zebco also offers a warranty of one year on all their products guaranteeing the quality of workmanship and material used in its equipment.
well i am very very new to fishing and i’ve just bought my equipment.
i bought an “Authentic Zebco 33 Spincast combo”
but i dont know how to release the line!!
i was read that some button releases the line but i tried pressing all the buttons but none worked!
where is the reel?
please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The reel is the bulbous part near where you grip the rod. Looks something like the nosecone on a rocket.
There should be a small plastic or metal ring at the point of the nosecone. Your line is attached to that.
Hold the rod with the reel in an upright position, and your index finger around the trigger on the underside. This should line your thumb up with the back of the reel. Centered on the back is a button (more rectangular that round). Depress it with your thumb, let go, and, with your other hand, pull on the ring. The line will feed out.
Pull out enough line to thread through the eyes of the rod, and tie it off on something: a hook, a casting plug, the original ring, anything. The one thing you want to avoid is reeling the line all the way back into the reel.
Turn the reel handle in a forward (clockwise) direction, and an internal pick up pin will lock in place, and the line will spool back into the reel.
When you learn to cast this rig, you basically do the same thing. Depress the button with your thumb and hold it until ready to cast. Snap the rod forward while simultaneously letting go of the button. The weight of your terminal tackle will pull the line out.
Initially you’ll have problems with the timing. But surprisingly quickly you’ll learn when to release your thumb in relation to where the rod is.
Fly Fishing Gear- Top 10 Essentials For Fly Fishing
With an apparently unending array of gear and gadgets, fly fishing seems to be a varied and interesting sport. Most of the available options could be confusing to anyone who is new to Fly fishing. Anyone with a flair for fishing should know the important accessories about it. The 10 common pieces concerning fly fishing gear include a reel, fly fishing rod, line, files, leader, waders, net, clippers, vest and sunglasses.
Fly fishing rod
This rod is one of the mandatory equipments for fly fishing. These rods are usually different when compared to regular and conventional fishing rods and are designed in unique manner. It would allow casting the fly and fly line. Rods today are often constructed using types of graphite compounds. Many of the rods are still structured from bamboo or fiberglass. The Fly rods are usually categorized based upon weights of line they are structured to be used with.
Reels
The Fly fishing reels essentially, are less significant than the rods. Unlike conventional fishing, along with fly fishing one does not reel in the fish. The Fly fishing methods involve stripping the line with free hand. Quite many fly fishing reels actually are of primitive designs and hence not so very expensive. Anglers commonly “palm” the reel for creating the drag, than relying upon internal drag mechanisms within the reel.
Line
The Fly fishing line has been specially designed for such style of fishing. Fly fishing line is considerably heavy compared to traditional fishing line. It is often tapered and designed for floating. Some lines are designed to sink, though. Some anglers attach backer line in between fly fishing line and reel so as to increase the line available.
Leader
The leader is a monofilament, clear line which attaches to the extreme end of fly fishing line. Additionally, the fly is tied to the leader at the end. This leader is further tapered down into a narrow diameter towards the forward end. Leader matches more with the traditional fishing line.
The Flies
They are available in huge assortments of designs and styles. The dry flies are designed so that they float up in the water, nymphs and wet flies are structured for submerging, and few other flies are made to partially submerge. Flies could also be implied as attractive or imitative. Imitative flies are deliberated to imitate or manifest like a specific insect. On the other hand, attractive flies are structured to attract the fists not looking towards any specific natural food source.
The Waders
Waders are optional when you fish in warm water. But a few anglers go fly fishing in cold water streams to find waders enormously essential. Some popular wader styles currently include waders with waterproof lining and neoprene waders. Neoprene waders work very well in the cold water stream and serve in keeping the angler warm. The waders having a waterproof lining prove to be convenient and breathable when one goes hiking flanking a stream.
Net
A net is essential equipment for fly fishing. As fly fishing is often done standing in the waters, it could be not very easy to hunt a fish without good nets. Nets always have a hook attached. This would help the net so that it could be hooked on the anglers’ vest or waders. A net is particularly important in cases when the angler is trying to catch and release fishing.
Fishing Vest
As fly fishing is always tried in the water, a fishing vest seems to be a near-essential equipment piece. Vests would allow you in keeping essential gear and tools handy and neat as and when you find its necessity.
Clippers
Clippers are quite useful for clipping the line when you change the flies. You would rarely notice any fly fisherman with no clippers in their pocket or vest.
Sunglasses
Sunglasses are pieces of personal gear which you would never want to forget. They would keep the sun to not reach your eyes and also protect them from stray fishing hooks. Polarized and good quality sunglasses would also assist in a better vision while you are out near the stream. Most anglers would also append a sunscreen and a hat to the catalog of personal gear which is essential.
There are other pieces of gadgets and gear which are available for every fly fisherman. The above mentioned ten items are perhaps among the most essential ones required for a successful and fun outing.

What is the best part of a fishing pole setup to make long casts? Line, reel, rod, etc.?
I am looking to fix up an old pole of mine and am wondering if I should buy all new equipment or should i just get new line or something
Every part of your setup is important to make a good cast, there’s no point having a good action rod only to put a cheap baitcast reel on it as this will limit your casting distance.
A fine diameter line is also vital as this causes less resistance through the line guides when casting as is more supple and less likely to spook the fish.
So to answer your question every part of your equipment comes together to make a good cast. If you have a rod and reel that is in good condition then just replace the line but if the whole setup looks damaged you would benefit from buying a new setup.
Catfish Fishing in Texas – How to Catch Those Trophy Blues
Texas is a catfish-crazy state. The Lone Star State has loads of great rivers, streams and lakes, and you can find all kinds of fish in any one of them, including Mr. Whiskers himself. Catfish are found in almost every nook and cranny of Texas, so as long as you’re near water, you aren’t far from where the cats are.
You can find lots of nice channel cats for eating in just about any Texas watering hole. But, if you play your cards right, you just might hook yourself a 70-pound trophy-winning blue! Here’s a quick guide to Texas catfishing, to tell you when to go, where to go and how to do it.
When to Go?
One of the reasons Texas catfishing is so great is that it’s a year-round sport. You don’t get frozen in the winter, and lake doesn’t get covered in ice, and those cats are biting whether it’s summer, spring, fall or winter. Many locals will tell you that the best time of the year, when the lakes and rivers are really jumping with cats, is during the summer. They do tend to be more active in the summertime. Another great time to catch catfish is during the spawning times, in very early Spring. However, Texas is catfish-crazy all year round. For those who live in the frozen north, Texas makes a great winter fishing vacation.
Where to Go?
Anywhere, just about! That being said, here are some of the top fishing spots in the great state of Texas…
Texoma – Just as the name implies, Texoma is right on the Texas-Oklahoma border. There is some great fishing here in the summer and winter, and quite a few trophy blues have been caught here. The lake is 75,000 acres of reservoir and it’s just full of our little whiskered friends. Texoma is a major catfish destination for anglers from all over the country.
Cedar Creek – Cedar Creek Lake is definitely one of the best fishing spots in Texas, and Fishing Magazines have always rated it highly. It’s also just about an hour’s drive from Dallas-Fort Worth, which makes it a convenient and easy trip. You’ll find it on the map right between Athens and Corsicana, Texas, south of the Dallas area. This lake is known for its blues, channel cats and trophy fish.
Tawakoni – Also just an hour from Dallas, Lake Tawakoni has been officially named the “Catfish Capital of Texas” by the Texas legislature. You don’t need any more endorsement than that. You may have also heard of Tawakoni from fishing magazines; lots of pro catfishers say it’s the best catfishing in Texas. Lots of trophy blues come from Tawakoni, and the record size keeps getting bigger and bigger.
Choke Canyon – Choke Canyon Reservoir is way down in southern Texas. There is a dam area that’s a great place to catch blues, flatheads and channel cats. This area is known for the sheer number of catfish caught every year, especially little guys that are good for eating. Quite a few trophy blues are landed every year, too. Choke Canyon is not far from San Antone, and while you’re down there, you can also check out Choke Canyon State Park.
Amistad – Lake Amistad is a giant lake way down in the south, near Del Rio. On the other bank is Mexico! Amistad is great for blues and channel cats, and it’s good and muddy, which makes angling in the shallows excellent for catching cats.
How to Catch ‘Em?
Texas catfish are like cats all over the world – they love live bait, especially bait that stinks. In Texas, you can catch lots of shinners, night crawlers, crickets and worms to put at the end of your line. This is also crawdad country, and if you take a little time and catch some, it will pay you big time. Of course the old standards like stink bait, chicken liver, bacon and hot dogs work great. Thank heavens they aren’t picky eaters!

Have you ever looked at buying closeout fishing tackle and accessories? Sometimes the deals can be terrific. You will be able to buy brand new, name brand items that may have been discontinued by the manufacturer. Most retailers only have the most current items in their stores. So, when a manufacturer discontinues items at the end of a season the retailer can sometimes return them back to the manufacturer or exchanges them for the new models. Sometimes a store may go out of business and a company may purchase all their items. Then they will sell to discounters and other retailers that sell closeout fishing supplies or discontinued items of any kind..
Every year manufacturers evaluate what items are selling and which are not. Then they evaluate profitability, marketing and the brand overall. Do we make changes so we can compete with other brands that are similar and make them more desirable? Maybe come up with new ways to make them ultimately sell better and provide better profits for the company. When the evaluations are decided, they will then decide to make changes for whatever reasons they may have or simply discontinue an item. When the company brand managers decide to discontinue an item, they also need to decide what to do with the remaining inventory. Another process now starts in their thinking. How much can we get for these items and how fast can we get them out of our warehouse? That is when they start to contact companies they know can buy all of the stock they have on hand, which may be numerous companies or only a few, then these companies offer these items as closeouts or discontinued models.
Let’s take a fishing reel manufacturer for example. They make subtle changes to a reel, change the model number and maybe only make a few upgrades or changes depending on customer feedback or whatever the market needs are. What do they do with the reels they just introduced this year while introducing another next year? They typically sell them to the closeout companies. The reels are brand new with full factory warranty. Still a good deal!
So, as a rule purchasing closeout fishing supplies are usually a good deal and a bargain. The risk is minimal and the savings can be very lucrative as long as you are buying from a legitimate company that will guarantee that the closeout items are brand new in the box and with full factory warranty.

California Fishing – 5 Best Long Range Fishing Trips
Heading off to the sunny climes of California for a fishing trip, then why not considering making it longer that your chosen week-end fishing break: haul up the tinned food and build up your holiday fun with a long range fishing trip that lasts a few days and is sure to bring in the catches and tales to go with it too! Avid anglers are known to keep aside a couple of days at least while the experts or the hobbyist can well reserve a three week break to simply scout the best fishing holes spread out over varied locations and grounds through the year, but nothing beats the popularity of Coastal California’s fishing spots that beckon with their immense variety of aquatic life and scenic beach fronts!
Most avid anglers heading to California spread their fishing trip between 2 to 6 days and choose popular fishing holes located between 100 to 300 miles San Diego; this area lies around the coast of Baja California and other fishing hot-spots are situated along Cedros, San Martin, Guadalupe and San Benitos, the offshore islands here.
1. If setting your fishing sights on any of the above mentioned fisherman’s delights, you’d do well to focus on species like the Blue Fin, Yellow Fin and Big Eye Tuna; while the Albcore, Skipjack and Yellowtail are also easy to catch as much as the abundantly swimming Calico Bass species.
2. The more long range fishing trips offered in California are organized fro 8-12 days and move outwards of the San Diego port; thus giving a wider fishing area of 300 to 1000 miles south of San Diego, involving angling spots in Uncle Sam Bank, Alijos Rocks, Thetis Bank and the 23 Fathom. Apart from the above named fish species, ones you can hope to catch here include Dorado and the Wahoo.
3. The long range fishing trips you can best hope to gain your prize catches from are located between California and the Mexico area, but you’re advised to keep aside at least 3 weeks for this: stretching across the Baja coast and the islands of Revilla Gigedos, these trips will include Clarian, Socorro and San Benedicto and big-size catches of Yellowfin tuna (weighing 200 to over 300 lbs and Wahoo up to 100 lbs.) are a usual catch for lucky fisherman here! So, what’s stopping you from heading out to sunny California, eh?
4. While some people shrug off the idea of long range fishing trips as too much of an effort, others don’t mind it for the heady mix of exotic and big fish they can catch! While such a long range fishing trip continues aboard a special charter, you can store the catch under deck in chilled fish-holds to help them survive the journey to the port.
5. Priced around $200-$300 a day, inclusive of all meals, these long range fishing trips from California to Mexico area require you to pay fishing permit costs in Mexico waters and the added incentive is of unique tackle rentals offered for each length of trip you make.
I’ve never fished for Walleye. I really wouldn’t know what I’m doing. I would highly appreciate any advice on rigs to use and what to look for in a fishing hole. Depths and so forth. Is this even a good time of year to catch them? What would they be biting on now? I live in South Eastern South Dakota. So if anyone is familiar with this area and knows of some good spots that would be great. Any links would be helpful too. Thanks in advance!
I also live in Southeastern South Dakota, Sioux Falls to be exact. If you want some good Walleye fishing, head up to Lake Thompson. I was just there last weekend and the fishing was awesome. Some of my uncles went up there all this week and limited out and had to throw about 20 back every day. The lake is up near Brookings and there’s a nice chain of lakes up there that have good fishing. If fishing from shore, cast out a jig and minnow. If on a boat, troll with a jig and minnow. I personally fish Brant Lake, near Madison, as I have a cabin up there. Good luck fishin’!

If you have ever wondered into the clearance fishing tackle section of your local tackle shop, I am sure you would have been tempted to buy at least one thing. With tackle being much cheaper in the clearance section, and still being used for the same purpose as full priced tackle it is clear to see that clearance tackle is useful tackle.
The idea of clearance tackle is to make room for new stock, or simply to attract people to the shop to buy cheaper goods in the hope they will find something they need that is not on sale. This all works well for the customer and seller. More people come to the shop to buy good, whilst more is sold, even if it is at a lower rate, money is still made. When one looks at online sales of clearance tackle shops it is clear to see there is a significant reduction of price when compared to stores. Online stores usually sell products cheaper to attract more customers, and with a global market tackle shops are increasing their sales. With this in mind and the idea of a global market more variety of goods is sold, in turn creating more goods, thus enabling more clearance items to be sold, or eventually be sold.
As discussed earlier, clearance fishing tackle is even more cheaper online then in the stores. For example whilst searching online for new equipment for my annual fishing trip I found many deals such as a Wychwood Barbel Float rod (13ft) reduced to £39.99 from £100.00. That is over 60% saving! With savings like this I bought all my fishing gear online and saved myself enough money to go on two fishing trips this year. I had also found that the clearance fishing tackle section on many websites do not contain just a hand full of good but many. This gives a very good selection to choose from and can cater for every type of fishing tackle needed. Another positive with the online shopping is that if the website you are buying from does not have what you are looking for in the clearance section, another website is just a click away. This therefore means that you can have an almost endless list of clearance fishing tackles at your disposal and potential you needed not buy anything full price again.
Set aside from the clearance fishing tackle section, most websites offer discounts on many of their products even if they aren’t in the clearance section. This is to entice people to shop online, therefore you should take the opportunity and try to purchase these discounted items.
From this article I hope you can see that clearance fishing tackles are useful tackles on the ground that they still do the job they are designed for, they are not faulty in anyway and are reduced significantly in price.
There are so many bits of equipment available that will make the carp fishermans dream come true. But make sure that you have the basics for your carp fishing expeditions to begin with. Before going out on a fishing gear spending spree, make sure that you are familiar with the types of places that you are fishing in, and what size of carp are being caught in the area.
Important Tackle
A good landing net that is fairly large in size is needed when carp fishing. Reliable forceps are needed to detangle hooks. To take the hook out of a carps mouth, you will need an unhooking mat. Fish like carp should never be placed on hard surfaces while the hooks are being removed.
Carp Rods
Depending on where you are fishing, Carp rods for small lakes and carp around the size of 15lbs need 1 ½ to 2 lb test curve. For distance, casting 3lb is ideal. There are other types of carp rods such as fast taper tip action, medium tip action and all through action. The conditions you are fishing in will have a lot to do with your choice.
For close work, the all through action rod is perfect, while distance will require a medium action rod as this will bend easily at the tip. For really long distance work when heavy weights need to be cast long distances, the fast tip action rod is the best.
Carp Reels
Reels need to be matched to your carp rod, so depending on the type of fishing that you are doing, you will want to choose something that feels comfortable and balanced on your rod as well as does the job that you need it to do. If you are not sure of the sizes needed, speak to someone in your local tackle shop, they will provide you with advice and choices in carp reels.
Line for your reel
Again, the line has a lot to do with your rod and reel. Keep in mind, though, not to use line that is too light, this will result in more lost fish and tackle. There are lines available called braids that seem to be popular, or using a standard monofilament line is just as good.
Hooks
Carp hooks should never be cheap. A cheap hook means a lost fish in most cases. Buy the better quality hooks. Compared to the cost of other equipment discussed here carp hooks are relatively inexpensive anyway. Make sure that the hooks that you buy are barb-less if that is the requirement in your area by the fishery department. A selection of hooks from a number 4 to 12 hook sizes will give you a good variety.
Weights
Look for in-line and bomb weights. These are the two best weights for carp fishing. In line and bomb weights are easy to thread and are a pale gray color so they will blend in with the bottom of the lake. There are many different sizes of weights. You will need a selection of these. Around 1-3-lbs will provide you with plenty to choose from. But keep in mind that what you buy, you will need to carry along with you, so dont go overboard with your weights.
Carry Alls
Carp carry alls are great for carrying around a heap of gear, although a carry all must be carried in your hands. A plain rucksack is also another way to effectively carry around your gear. Make sure that any bags or rucksacks that you do choose are made from a good waterproof anti-rip material. Rod carriers are ideal for protecting your rods and with the pouch included in some carriers, you can leave the reels on your rods. If you have the room in your carrier, put an umbrella in there to provide protection from adverse weather conditions.
Tackle Box
Your choice in a tackle box is really a personal thing. There is a style available for almost any taste, size, or budget. What you choose really doesnt matter, an old lunch box is good enough. Ideally, you may want to choose something that has partitions that will keep all of your gear neatly in the right places for easy reference. Make sure that if you invest in a fancy tackle box, it is made of quality robust materials so it will stand the test of time.
More goodies
Pods can be useful while fishing for carp and a weigh sling and scales are a must if you want to weigh those massive carp you catch. The Rolls Royce of all extra bits you can get is a bite alarm. It is costly, but what a convenience.
A few other bits that will complete any carp fishermans list of tackle is a baiting needle, bollies stops, swivels and some floats and stops. There are new things coming on the market every day that will add to your fun while carp fishing. So keep looking, you never know what you may find.

thinking of starting pike fishing what do i need?
i just need to know the basic Equipment and what lures to use and how to rig them up
i do carp fishing so i the basics like rod reel landing net etc
but the carp are ddocile this time of year and pike are a winter fish so iv been told and i hear they put up a good fight
A lot depends on where you live.
Pike are ambush predators. They like to be on the edge of weed beds and brush. Also, underwater structure and abrupt transitions from deep to shallow water.
Live minnows are a better bait than dead ones. Also frogs in season. They eat almost anything, mice and ducklings, any bird that flies too low over the water. Basically anything smaller than they are and smaller means not that much smaller. I have a picture of a muskellunge in a hatchery tank with another one’s tail sticking out of it’s mouth. Plugs, spoons and spinners so long as they’re a good size.
A good 12-24″ wire bite guard leader is a must. Also, pike go up to 70 pounds, twenty pounders aren’t unusual. You need a much heavier line than 2lbs test. I’d say 15 to 20 lbs test at least.
Once you go pike, you’ll never go back to carp again.
Sport fishing has become the favorite fishing in most states in United States. This is mainly due to the available facilities and a lot of encouragements from the local clubs of sportfishing. Competition gets intense when your experience gets intense in game fishing. Sport fishing game is not a commercial activity where people do fishing for profit or for survival. However, in case of deep sea sport the fishing is done for completion and challenge. Victories and trophies are the main aim in game fishing. Some of the common known equipments for deep-Sea Fishing are fishing rods, fishing reels, lines, hooks and number of baits depending on the type of fish you aim at.
Lures might be used to catch a fish. They might be either a plastic worm or fly that is of artificial colors and is of various sizes. When you catch a fish using the hook, then it is called as angling. Angling is mainly done when your aim to catch and then release the fish with tags. Initially, sport fishing was mainly meant for men, but today women are also very talented in deep sea fishing.
Big game fishing is done with a focus on specific big fishes like the sharks, marlin and tuna. Sport fishing is done through various ways, and they follow different strategies. They all depend on three main factors. They are the fishing area which may be smaller like a lake or wide as sea, types of fishes, which may be either small or big fish and the final factor would be the equipments and the resources available with the game sports fishing sports men. Therefore, depending on each of these factors, sport fishing will be done using different equipments.

The term “sea fishing tackle” is a general term that covers all equipment used by fishermen when they go fishing at sea.
When we talk about sea fishing tackle, we are actually referring to all the equipment that fishermen use when they go out to the sea to fish. The term “sea fishing tackle” is a rather general term, since it is used on different kinds of fishing gear and equipment.
What exactly are we talking about when we speak of sea fishing tackle? Below is a rundown of what makes up the basic sea fishing tackle that anglers ought to have with them on their fishing trips.
1. Fishing rod and reel. Naturally, the first thing that comes to mind on the topic of sea fishing tackle is the fishing rod and the accompanying reel. This is the most basic item in a fisherman’s gear because one simply cannot fish without it. The rod and the reel can be bought separately from a local tackle store, but they often come as a set. The rods used for saltwater fishing are often six feet long or more.
2. Fishing line. The fishing line is the cord used to reel in the catch. It comes in different strengths or pound-tests. What pound-test fishing line you should buy depends on the kind of fish you are planning to catch and the bait you want to do it with. Typically, the more popular fishing lines have a pound-test of eight to 16.
3. Fishing net. The net is used not to catch the fish but to land them. However, it can be handy for catching bait, such as minnows and frogs.
4. Bait. Baits come in a wide variety of forms and colours. They are either live or artificial. Live bait can be earthworms, minnows, crab or shrimp. Artificial baits are often made of plastic.
5. Hooks. The hooks hold the fish that go for the bait. The size of the hook that you should use depends on the size of the fish you are going for.
6. Bobbers. The bobber is supposed to dangle the bait to the fish and to put a bit more weight to your cast. When it sinks, it means there is a catch at the end of the line.
7. Sinkers. Sinkers add weight to the line to prevent it from floating to the water’s surface. The good ones weigh only a pound and are free from lead.
8. Leaders. Leaders are bits of metal that you attach to your line to protect it from being cut by toothy or sharp-gilled fish.
9. Swivels. Swivels are attached to the line and are sometimes used to hold the bait, the leader and the hook instead of being tied directly to the line. A swivel keeps the line from tangling and makes it easier to remove leaders without cutting the line.
10. Utility knife. A knife is used for a variety of tasks when fishing. They can be used to cut tangled lines, clean fish and making fillets.
11. Tackle box. The tackle box is the container where you store all the small items that make up your sea fishing tackle. It is always best to keep the tackle box organised.
There are a lot of items that make up sea fishing tackle. All these items that are called sea fishing tackle are essential to having a fun and productive time of fishing at sea.
Me and my wife are going to Mexico in a couple of weeks for a vacation. Besides parasailing, waverunners, etc I would like to go deep sea fishing. We have 3 ports of call- Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta. Which would be the best location for fishing? How much would I expect to spend for maybe a half day? What kind of fish would I be able to catch?
You can pay upwards of 3-4 hundred dollars for a pre registered guide to take you fishing (I fished in Cabo). Something I recently discovered on a trip there over last spring break was that with the abundance of fisherman you have the option of walking down to one of the boat docks and asking around for someone to take you out (I was able to score a trip for 50). You can catch fisherman who normally take people but don’t currently have any “appointments” and get huge discounts by just showing up. When you go, depending on the types of tackle you bring along, you can get many of the bottom feeder fish (easy to catch yet delicious) or you could, if you have the rod for it, go for something a bit bigger like marlin.
Walleye Fishing Guide – How to Pick the Perfect Guide
When you are looking for the perfect guide, you need to consider a few things before deciding on which one will serve your needs. Although experience is the most import, some others will help you pick the right walleye fishing guide.
The first thing to remember is to be honest with the guide about what you need and how much experience you have walleye fishing. The more information you provide, the better off you will be with the guide. If you are a beginner and using a guide, they can show you some great tips for fishing the walleye. If you are less than honest, you may not catch anything. If you have any limitations, do tell the guide so they can accommodate your needs.
Talking to other people about the different guides they have used is a excellent way to find a good walleye fishing guide. You can plan a fishing trip that might be similar to their trip and have the same fun and excitement. You can also ask the guide for referrals of people who have used their service. Keep in mind that you cannot just talk to one person, you need to have a few people to talk to, to see how their fishing experience was and if the guide was as good as he or she has said. This is very important when choosing a fishing guide.
If you are reading this article, you can access the Internet, find many reviews of different guides, and see what guides are available in different areas. You might be planning your trip to one area when you find a walleye fishing guide with perks in another area that meets your needs. You can search by state, city or by finding some reviews of the specific lakes or rivers. The Internet is a great way to find out information. The walleye fishing forums are also a great wealth of information.
Two important things that make a guide credible are the insurance and license. Always ask for proof of insurance and a license. If the guide has insurance and a license great, if not, they are not recognized by that particular state as a reputable walleye fishing guide. Every guide should have insurance in case something would happen to the boat or to your equipment as well as yourself. The license comes from the Coast Guard and means that the boat was inspected and the boat owner has the proper training needed to run a guide service. This includes first aid training and boating safety.
You should pick a guide by what is included in the price. If you do not ask questions about what the guide includes, you may find some added costs when you arrive for a day of fishing. A good guide service should have the bait, gear and tackle that you need if you do not want to bring your own. You should find out if they buy the fishing license or do you have to as well as do they provide any lunches or beverage. In most cases, you are responsible for your food, beverages and fishing license.
Find out if there any discounts or special package deals. If you have a group, you might find that some guide services offer a discount for more people. If you book more than one day, will you receive a discount should also be discussed. Just because the guide service does not advertise a discount, you should still ask the question just in case they have one in place that they give to customers upon making reservations.
