In every human life recreation has been an important part of life. The fishermen or the anglers are among the largest community who seek recreation and they have advantage when it comes to enjoying nature to fullest and use it for the food.

The angling pressure has been the major cause for the fishing becoming so popular in many areas and it has become way beyond the normal capacity of the lakes and streams. There are large species present and each type of angler can choose the fish of his choice or the method of his liking that appeals him the most.

This can be the very reason why many people want to spend their vacation doing fishing activity. But there are some kind of people who want to plan before indulging in this activity and therefore they require fishing charters.

Fishing charter enables and individual to enjoy and have the fun of fishing even if he does not have equipments ad means for the fishing activity. Thus the fishing charter purpose is to provide the required services involved in fishing activity.

Therefore it is imperative for the people to be aware of the start and end time for charter.

How profitable do you think lake charter fishing would be?

Lets say I were to charge $50/person for 2 hrs. The lakes are in Fresno, Cali Pine Flat Reservoir and Millerton Lake. Would it be worth it in the long run? I’m only making $150/wk at my current job.

To run a profitable charter you need a few things. First you need to consistantly bring your customers to areas of the lake where they can catch nice fish. You can’t use the same spots on all your trips because you will put too much fishing pressure on the spots. You need to supply good bait and good tackle and most of all you need to give them great advice. If you run a charter and can’t supply bait tackle and advice, and can’t CONSISTANTLY catch big fish then you would lose money, not make money. Oh and that’s not to mention the costs of insurance, taxes, gas etc… $50 per person for two hours, that’s $25 an hour per person (I assume on a lake boat you can only take 2-3 people at a time). Now subtract fuel, drinks, bait, tackle, insurance cost, captain’s license cost and everything else you need to run a charter and you roughly have your profit. I’d say of that with your charging $100-$150 for two hours of fishing you would not make a profit for a long time after all the expenses to get things started. To make money you first need to spend money and then hope for a return profit. Some people spend alot of money to open a business and then the business fails. If it fails all that money is wasted and you still have to pay. Might be a better idea to get a second job or ask for a raise.

Fishing Equipment Shops

All appropriate fishing equipments produce same results

It’s one of those things where you must sit, stay silent, stare at your nearby and also have enjoyment as the thrill of waiting for a nip is something exciting. But to get a bite, you’re going to require some good fishing equipment.

Now the essential objects you’re going to need are a fishing reel, a fishing rod and some lures. You could search for live lure, but the man made one’s would do just fine as well. These equipments are present at sports and recreational stores but if you really go to one of those locations, you will realize that even the incredibly basic fishing tools are priced a bit too expensive. In my opinion, fishing instruments is really not worth spending that much for.

So actually the best thing to do is to get a Nintendo Wii and go fishing there. Just kidding. I would actually imply to search for areas that sell wholesale fishingequipments. If you actually put some thought into it, the equipment found at the sports and leisure stores will do the equal way as those that are sold in wholesale fishing locations. If fishing is merely going to be a past time that you will search for like once or twice a month, then buy your fishing tool at stores that provide wholesale fishing materials.

Shopping at wholesale fishing stores will not only save you a significant sum of money, but you can also have a top quality fishing products with the amount that you spend. Now I’m not stating the things at sports and leisure shops are bad, they are actually state of the art material, but if you’re looking for a perfect another option, wholesale fishing goods is the best way to go.

Thinking about guppy tank?

hi im back with another question about my 15 gallon tank which i will hopefully get if my parents let me in my room. anyway, i was reading about guppies while waiting for more answers in my other questions, and i realised that guppys are actually quite beautiful because in my local fish shop, Maidenhead Aquatics Wembley they have huge varieties of guppies like red and yellow flame ones, blue and purple ones, beautiful fins, and everything. so i was wondering if i could get a only guppy tank with a beautiful array of colourful guppies swimming around, how many could i get for a 15 gal? and what equipment/plants/stuff could i get with it?
not 15 gal sorry its like 21 litres or something lol

21 litres is about 5 us gallons, which is pretty small actually but not too small to keep guppies happy

you definately need a filter and a 25 watt heater on it, the temperature is suppose to be 78-82 degrees at all times

you could put up to 4 MALE guppies into it, if you would get females, your tank would be overstocked in no time

you could also get a couple of oto’s or 3 corycats for the bottom

and of course plants

which would make a really nice tank :)

just make sure you cycle the tank before you actually buy fish for it

you will also need:
a small gravelsiphon to do weekly partial waterchanges of 25%
liquid test kits for ammonia, nitrite and nitrAte, a pH is also helpful
pure ammonia or fishfood to cycle the tank, and of course patience when cycling the tank

feel free to contact me or check out the link in my profile

Hope that helps
Good luck

Eve

Edit*
just read your other Q’s
you could actually shorten the whole process of cycling, by just simply taking gravel and water from your dads tank and swishing some filter media from your dad’s tank in your new tank
you will only have a minicycle with that, and can have fish in your new tank already after only 4-7 days

Used food packaging equipment – what to consider when buying one

Food processing industries require machineries to fulfill production needs of the business. But these sets of equipment are considered so expensive. Some would then opt to just purchase used food packaging equipment and other food machineries just to be able to cope with high volume requirements. If you are one of the many individuals buying refurbished food equipment, there are some guidelines to consider. Here are some tips on how you may successfully buy one from used food machinery UK:

Check on the basics. The basic thing to remember when checking used food packaging equipment is looking into its functions and parts. Make sure that missing parts are replaced by the company. Otherwise, you should be advised to purchase these missing parts. Since you are going to prepare food through these machines, you must check on the cleanliness of the machine as well. Make sure that even if they are used, they do conform to standards. Once you have checked on the basics, you may proceed on other tips when buying used food machinery in UK.

See the options available. Different food processing industries have various needs when it comes to buying used food packaging equipment and other types of food machines. The list of the store should give you an option to see what is actually on stock. Used food machinery in UK classifies products according to industry uses like bakery and catering equipment, coating equipment, filling equipment and fish processing equipment. There are also types such as handling equipment, meat processing equipment and mechanical spares.

Services should also be found on the site. Since you are dealing with used food machinery in UK, you must see to it that repair services are extended by the company. Consultation is always necessary. Installation and removal of used food packaging equipment and other food machineries are also of great help. Adding to the list of services extended is delivery. This is essential because it would be too hard for you to carry the equipment back to your plant or factory on your own efforts. Entrust this part to the company.

Determine whether used food packaging equipment and other machines are refurbished or not. Refurbishment is the process of converting old equipment to a somewhat newer form with higher standards. Some used food machinery UK factories do provide this option. The process is done by engineers to ensure that the machines will function the way they used to. Remember that refurbishing is more than just improving the physical appearance of the equipment. The inner parts should be returned back to its condition as well.

With all these options offered by used food machinery in UK, it will be easier for you to buy your own sets of equipment for your food processing business. Always make sure that what you buy matches the price given by the company. Even if you are purchasing used food packaging equipment, you have all the right to assess what is in store for you in the acquisition. Get your free no obligation quotations from the company as well. That way, you will be able to assess if it does fit your budget.

How to Use These Top 10 Pieces of Ice Fishing Equipment to Increase Your Catch

Given the advances of the past couple decades, ice fishing equipment has come a long way. Gone are the days of freezing your tail off, hunched over a hole with a rod cut from a summer pole attempting to catch fish through a hole in the ice. Today’s equipment allows for unprecedented mobility as well as great comfort to allow for longer and more successful trips to the ice. Below is a list of the top 10 things that you can get to make your time on the ice more productive and enjoyable.

    10) Ice Fishing Plastics
Today’s plastics are revolutionary in that they at times catch more fish than live bait. This normally comes from their scent and durability. Using one piece of Berkley Powerbait to catch a dozen fish is not uncommon.

    9) Wheel House
Gone are the days of 3 hours to move your permanent ice house. With a wheel house you can jack it back up, hook it up to the truck and move on down to your next ice fishing destination. A great way to cover more ice and not dread moving from a hot spot that has gone south.

    8) Glow Jigs
Perfect for those low light times or when fishing water that is murky, many of today’s jigs come with glow paint on them that often increases catch rates immensely. Popular models include the Lindy Frostee and the Genz Bug. Simply place the jig next to a light source, preferably an LED light source, and your jig will illuminate very bright to draw in the fish.

    7 Underwater Ice Fishing Camera
Nothing has increased people’s understanding of the underwater world more than this piece of equipment. The underwater camera allows you to watch everything that is going on beneath the ice on a TV screen. It allows you to use minor adjustments to coax more fish into biting your bait.

    6) GPS with Lake Contour Software
The advent of the GPS allowed for people to bring high technology with them wherever they went. Couple that with lake contour software, and we can go directly to the structure we see on our GPS. This saves unknown time finding new spots as well as pinpointing the exact spot that was successful in the past. Lakemaster makes excellent contour software for Garmin and Lowrance devices.

    5) Modern Ice Fishing Rod
Today’s ice fishing rods are built specifically for high performance ice fishing. With a spine that allows one to play the fish as they fight, these rods are far superior than the rods of yesteryear. You can even tailor the action of the rod to fit the fishing you are doing from ultra light for panfish to a heavy duty ice rod for northern pike.

    4) Portable Propane Heater
Nothing is worse than being cold while a hot bite is on. The beauty of today’s heaters is both their portability as well as their heat output. Some models are even safe indoors, and are great for heating up your portable or permanent shelter. Mr. Heater and Coleman are the major brands in this space and both produce excellent heaters to keep you on warm and content on the ice.

    3) Portable Ice Fishing Shelter
Lightweight and extremely portable, the tent-like ice shelters you can purchase today allow for comfort, style and charm all while providing you opportunity to follow the hot bite. The shelters go up and come down quickly and really keep the elements at bay. Clam, Eskimo and Eastman all produce a high quality portable ice shanty for your ice fishing needs.

    2) Gas Powered Ice Auger
Today’s ice angler is all about moving to keep on the hot bite. Couple that mentality with an ultra sharp gas powered ice auger of today and you can make swiss cheese of any lake you are on. By punching many holes before you start fishing you can move at will and not spook the fish if they have moved slightly in one direction. You will find high quality models from Strikemaster, Jiffy, and Eskimo to quench your thirst for catching more fish.

  1) Ice Fishing Flasher

Perhaps no tool is more powerful than the ice fishing flasher. Allowing the fisherman to see the entire water column as well as their bait leads to more fish on the ice. Utilizing a flasher combined with the many holes you punched with your ice auger you can move quickly if no fish are below a hole. With varying colors to mark how big an object below the flasher is, you can see when a fish rises to take your bait. They are invaluable when fishing for suspended fish like crappies which would otherwise be overlooked.

With all the technology and innovation afforded to ice fishermen today there is no reason catching more fish needs to be a pipe dream. If you combine even 3 of the items listed above you will greatly increase your chances are catching more and bigger fish.

What are some good websites for new hunting technology?

I’m looking for websites that have new hunting (deer, duck, hog, fishing) technology. Basically, im interested in really cool stuff, like state of the art equipment, or perhaps new techniques.

You can always start by doing a search for gadgets on yahoo. But I always look at cabelas, basspro and sportsmansguide. I can usually find a few cool gadgets there.

Tactics of Bass Fishing On Lake Fork in Texas

Lake Fork is located in Texas and it is one of the best bass fishing lakes in the state. One reason this lake is so great for bass fishing is because it is the perfect habitat for this species of fish. There are a lot of flooded timber and submerged trees located throughout this lake along with other natural structures that make the perfect home for bass.

Lake Fork covers three different counties in Texas which are the Rains, Hopkins and Woods counties. It contains 27,264 acres of water and averages about seventy feet deep. It was impounded on the Sabine River in the year 1980. You will find that the largemouth bass is the most abundant species of bass found in Lake Fork and you will have the most success when fishing here during the spring, fall and winter.

Best Fishing Bait to Use on Lake Fork Texas

Experienced anglers know that you will need different baits depending on where you are. A lot will depend on the natural food source that is available in the lake you are fishing. When it comes to the best bait to use on Lake Fork you will find that spinnerbaits, jigs, crankbaits, and jerk bait work very well. You can also have some really good results when fishing for bass with plastic lizards and worms.

The bass spawn between mid February and April so this is when you will find them along the shoreline in large numbers. You will get the best results from using crayfish during this time of the year. Other baits to use during this time include artificial lizards, salamanders, minnows and worms.

If fishing in the summer months you may want to limit your fishing to the nighttime hours when it is cooler and the bass are biting more. During the heat of the day they will move out to deeper water and are less active. This is when crankbaits and topwater lures are the most productive.

Shad is one of the favorite foods of the bass especially in the fall. When using artificial shad the chrome or white colors will work the best. When fishing the shallow waters in the fall anglers have found that crankbaits and topwater lures work great. During the winter months the bass seem to be more attracted to spoons, crankbaits and jigs.

Where to Fish and When

When fishing Lake Fork for bass you will have the best luck in the early mornings and late afternoons. Fishing on cloudy days is also recommended because in the heat of the day when the sun is at its brightest, the bass will move out to deeper water. It is important to know that bass stay around cover where they feel protected.

Shallow water, grass beds, weeds and shorelines are the best locations to search for bass because this is where they tend to hang out the most. However, if you are fishing in the heat of the day, then you will want to move out to deeper water and fish around the edges of underwater structures and around ledges. They will also be located in coves and creek channels.

What are channel dropoffs when fishing lakes?

Some lakes are man-made or made & influenced by Dams.

Old flooded stream and river channels create natural highways for fish to move and live around.

(You can find these channels with a good Lake map and a good Fish Finder/sonar unit)

Not all lakes have a channel, HOWEVER, natural lakes CAN have shelves & drop-offs into deeper waters.

Sometimes fishermen use the term “channel” (incorrectly) in regards to the deepest drop-offs in a given lake or a “bottleneck” in a lake.

Hope this helps? Good fishing.

Walleye Fishing Lakes – Top 3 Lakes in North America

The top three North America lakes for catching walleye have to be Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Lake Superior. The lakes are populated with walleye and other species of fish and guide services run on all three lakes. The common areas to fish depend on the weather, water temperatures and the conditions of the water.

Since the three Great Lakes are in the northern part of the country, ice fishing is also relevant on the ice during the months of January, February and March. One could only speculate about which area to fish for walleye, but the fishing reports do help with specific areas.

The first lake we will look at is Lake Superior. The most popular place to start is by the port of Duluth in Minnesota. Fishing for walleye from this area will depend on the winds. Sometimes the northeasterly or easterly winds will prevent boats from leaving the dock. The reason is that the waves are high and the water is rough. If this area is not ideal for leaving the dock, you could try the St Louis River and Bay area. The waters are much calmer and the walleye are sure to be around the weed beds and underwater rock formations.

Lake Erie has three basins for fishing walleye. The eastern, central and western basins make for some excellent walleye fishing. The western basin has some dead areas, but if you use a fish locator, you will have more luck in this area. The islands, channels and reefs generally find the walleye hiding. Some good areas to start from are Port Clinton, Oak Harbor and Toledo. You can also start over by Kelly’s Island. You will find that using a bottom bouncer is going to work the best for attracting and catching the walleye.

The central basin is where you are going to find the most incredible summer fishing. The best depth is about seventy-three feet down. There are numerous areas to launch from including Ashtabula, Geneva, Eastlake, Cleveland and Vermillion. The walleye are all over this area during the summer. The best thing to use in this area is the Dipsy Diver. You can troll at very low speeds using a dipsy diver with a Scorpion spoon. You will want to use a thirty pound braided. Spectra test line. This will be the best fishing you ever did during the summer months.

The eastern basin of Lake Erie for walleye fishing can be from the Pennsylvania area or the Dunkirk, New York area. There is an underwater mountain that goes from Pennsylvania to New York. You can find some ten-pound walleye in this stretch of the lake. This area does have some drawbacks because of the water clarity and the walleye seem to be afraid of the boats. You do some trolling during the summer and still catch a good-sized fish. Use a worm harness with a Dipsy Diver and you have no problem catching a walleye. The best fishing seems to be in the early morning hours.

Are there any good fresh water fishing lakes near where you live?

I live in western NY and can walk to the Niagara river, which connects lakes Erie and Ontario.
We enjoy 4 seasons of fishing with almost any fresh water species in abundance.Within a 30 mile radius you can fish the lakes and river, streams and ponds, even the Erie barge canal—weather permitting, the weather being if you have to work or not.
Small mouth are every place,Muskie to 55 inches, the Walleye are plentifully,steel-head fill the feeder streams, the lower river-below the falls is full of lake,rainbow/steelies and brown trout,in addition to bass and pan fish.30 pound salmon do not make headlines.
Even the urban settings have great fishing–crappie and perch fishing next to a grain elevator on the ice or on an old set of railroad tracks in a ship canal after ice out.I have caught 10 pound carp and crappie in a lake in a park in the middle of Buffalo–
Western NY and Buffalo might not be everybody place but as for the fishing it cant be beat

What You Need To Know about Bass Fishing Tournaments

Bass fishing tournament and expeditions are some of the most challenging but most rewarding experiences an angler will have. There are hundreds of tournaments that take place surrounding the country. Depending on the type of fish you plan to get, your location and just how skilled you are, there is likely to be some sort of fishing tournament available to you. If you want to be a part of the largest bass fishing tournaments out there, you have to have skill and know how. You also have to have a bit of luck in landing the largest, best bass in the location.

In order to get involved in bass fishing tournaments, most people begin as amateurs fishing with a pro in order to get experience and exposure to learn the ropes. Others focus on memberships to organizations and clubs that sponsor their own bass fishing tournaments in order to get a foot in the door.

The following is a list of the best known bass fishing tournaments:

* The Bassmaster Classic: Known as the biggest and best of all bass fishing tournaments, the classic is the most well known tournament in the sport of bass fishing for more than thirty years. This event is bass fishing’s only world championship to be held once a year, and has a purse of $500,000.

A friend and myself want to enter into some fishing tournaments. Where should we start?

My friend and I go bass fishing practically every weekend so were talking and thought it would be fun to fish in a tournament one weekend. The thing is, we are not sure where to start. Are there tournament series for new commers like us? If it helps, we are down in North Carolina near Lake Norman (Yes, the pending FLW tourny factored into this idea!). We don’t expect to come in and win us some big prizes, just more of the experience and fun (For now at least), but who knows, maybe a lucky day!

Also, is there some good website (I can’t seem to find one) where you can find local tournaments from maybe local sponsors or of the such that wouldn’t be on a national website?

Any guidence is appreciated!!!

I would start out by fishing smaller fundraiser tournaments in your area. look in the paper or Fishing Magazines in your area. Get some experience. Learning how to plan your tournament day and exicuting that plan is a big part of suceeding in tournament fishing. Check local bait shops for tournaments and even local fishing clubs. Some clubs have one or two tournaments a month and keep season standings, this will force you to be consistant. After you start to have some sucess at these levels then you can look into FLW and other higher levels.

Charter Fishing

For The Group Experience Go Charter Fishing

Charter fishing is a great way to spend time with the family and friends cruising the water. Many people make good use of the fact that they have the possibility of chartering a very expensive boat for the day. Most of us can not afford those high dollar fishing or party boats, so give the chance is a great experience. Charter fishing is very popular among deep-sea fishermen. Just about anywhere you choose to spend your fishing vacation you can find a charter fishing company.

Companies that provide charter fishing boats generally have a wide variety to choose from. Depending on the type of water, fish or entertainment you are looking for depends on the type of boat that you need to charter. Any charter company is generally very helpful with answering questions about the type and size of the boat needed. If comfort is what you are looking for you may want to charter more of a party boat. If fishing is the only thing you are going for than you may be able to charter a smaller, less fancy boat.

For those that are very serious about their fishing adventure there are a variety of features that can make the day a bit easier. Many of the charter fishing boats are equipped with items such as live wells, captain’s chairs, fish finders and much more. Many of us do not realize the importance of the features of a boat until we are in the middle of the water with no turning back. How comfortable the boat is certainly comes to life at that point. For those that are fishing chair is certainly nice. The ability to turn the chair is an absolute must when fishing. Captain’s chairs are comfortable and allow for a relaxing time that is easy on the back.

Boats that have a live well can assist in keeping your bait fresh to score the perfect catch of the day. Many of the charter fishing boats are also equipped with a trolling motor. A trolling motor allows for the boat to move through the water quietly, not scaring the fish away. Also the trolling motor can be used for dragging a net with bait to catch the fish. Fish finders are another great invention that can point you in the right direction of the perfect catch. Technology has taken fishing to a much higher level.

For charter fishing trips, who is the best on the east coast?

I am planning a charter trip for this spring or summer and was wondering what the best place to go would be. We are looking to do a all day group rate trip and an all day private charter. Whatever offers the most variety for the group trip is what we are looking for in that. And in the private charter, we are just looking to catch the biggest and baddest fish out there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A New Sea Fishing Phenomenon has arrived

http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Escalure-Fishing-Tackle

As recently featured on ‘Tight Lines’ on Sky Sports, this evolutionary technology has just arrived in the UK and is taking the country by storm with impressive results already being seen from Boat & Shore Sea Anglers. Esca Technology is based on the sea’s own method of catching prey using lure lights as bait. Esca Technology is the only fishing product in the world that simulates natural lighting.

Esca have developed advanced Sea fishing technology for use in Esca light-emitting lures – a technology that allows our lures to generate their own power supply when in contact with seawater. The light-emitting lure is deactivated when it is no longer in contact with seawater, so Esca Technology does not need any batteries. This means that Esca Technology is environmentally friendly and is not subject to the corrosion that often forms around batteries.

The Esca Technology lure light lasts for at least 100 hours of active fishing (the time the unit spends in salt water). Esca Technology is also extremely robust and reliable. Unlike most technological electronic components, it can withstand pressures of over 500 meters in depth. Try for yourself and find out why sea anglers around the world are all talking about this product

Try different colors and frequencies to see what works best in various waters and conditions.

Esca Blue lights and Green lights are optimized to emit very specific wavelengths that mimic the predominant lure lights used by marine organisms.

Esca Blue light attractors are generally recommended for clearer waters and deeper waters because it is the wavelength that penetrates deepest and furthest.

Esca Green light attractors are generally recommended for murkier waters and shallower waters containing more particles and algae.

Try for yourself and you will see why people around the world are all talking about this product!

How do you work out delivery costs for raw food products?

Hi there I am in the process of working out my delivery costs for my new halal food company and do not know where to start. we sell packaged meat/poultry and fish products and so Initially i want to deliver to the entire london area. I would highly appreciate if i could get some strong advice on how to work out my delivery costs.

Thanks

Well, first figure out how many miles (or is it kilometers in London?) you are going to have to drive. Then figure out how much gasoline (petrol?) costs to go 1 km. Add that all up. Figure in a 10% factor for oil changes and wear and tear on your delivery vehicle. Figure in insurance on the vehicle. Add all that up to get a 1-year average (or 1 month average). Then figure out how much foody ou’ll deliver in 1 year (or 1 month) and add the delivery costs to the food costs. Very straightforward, really.

Salt Water Tank Set Up – Do Not Make The Same Mistake I Did

If you need help with your salt water tank set up you have come to the right place. Knowing how to set up your tank is very important, and without the right help you could end up with a lot of problems that could have been prevented. I want to show you how to get a saltwater aquarium guide that I have been using, and why I think its so important for anyone starting a salt water tank set up.

A lot of people who start a salt water tank set up normally just goes to the local pet store, not really knowing exactly what they need. They ask the people working at the pet store what supplies or equipment they need and purchase it. You get home, you are excited and ready to get this saltwater tank set up, but the people at the store that sold you all the supplies didn’t really tell you what you needed to do. So you guess, or maybe try to remember what the tanks at the store look like, but you get it done.

Now you have your salt water tank set up and you are ready to go get fish. You go to the store buy fish and bring them home and put them in the tank. A week goes by and the fish start to get sick or maybe one died. You call the store that you purchase the fish from and ask them why the fish died. They tell you they have no idea and you cant return the fish because they do not give refunds on fish after a couple days.

Well that is how it happened for me and I was very disappointed with the store that I purchased my tank and other salt water fish tank set up equipment. I searched all over for information and found a great saltwater aquarium guide that I found to be priceless. It showed me everything I needed to know about my saltwater fish tank set up,and I have not had a single fish die since I started using it.

My salt water tank set up is now thriving with life, and I owe it all to the saltwater aquarium guide, and if you would like to check it out use the link below and get your salt water tank set up done the right way. Don’t make the same mistake I did and do your research before you even think about starting your salt water tank set up.

Whats a good size marine salt water fish tank cost? With fish like nemo and others? And equipment?

Good fish to have?
Good tank to have?
Equipment needed?
Cost of all to get started roughly?

You would need about a 55gal min tank. You could not put all the fish from Nemo in there, but the clown fish and a few other small ones. The tank is the cheap part. You need a good filter, protein skimmer, very good lighting, live sand, live rock, test kits, and about 50 other things.

In all, you would probably need at least $600 – $700 for the equipment and one or two fish, plus monthly maintenance costs. Salt water tanks are very expensive to setup and maintain, and take a lot of attention. Additionally, you cannot stock a saltwater tank like fresh water. You need about 10 gallons per inch of fish for saltwater whereas 1 gallon per inch of fish for freshwater.

If you do decide to do this, find a good local pet store (NOT A CHAIN) and they can help instruct you and walk you through the entire setup.

when do local fishing lakes get stocked?

is there a website that tells you what lakes get stocked when, i would like to know so i have a better chance of catching fish.

It depends on where you live. The various state department of Fish and Game websites will mostly give good clues about what they are doing. If they do not, call and ask. The worst that can happen is they refuse to tell what they know.

Virginia Saltwater Fishing – How to Catch Saltwater Fish in Virginia

Virginia has many great places for fishing of all types. Not only do many residents of this beautiful state spend considerable time on the waters but so do many people who travel from other parts of the world to enjoy the great fishing that Virginia has to offer.

While the freshwater fishing is rampant throughout the state as well, many people come for the great saltwater fishing opportunities along the coastal regions of Virginia. Saltwater fishing in Virginia has no limits to season or weather. In fact, some of the best saltwater fishing in the Commonwealth can be done after Labor Day when the seasonal fishermen go home for the end of summer. You can find some excellent fishing in the Atlantic, off the coast of Virginia and we’re going to tell you how to do so. If you want to know how to catch saltwater fish in Virginia, here are some tips and hints to help you along your journey.

When to Fish
While Virginia has great saltwater fishing at any time of year, many hardcore anglers prefer fall fishing when the tourists have gone home and the fish are hungry. In fact, some of the largest fish in the ocean may be making their way closer to the shorelines in search of food. When the weather is cooler, many of the saltwater fish that previously lie dormant in the waters will now come out looking for food.

Be sure you are licensed to fish legally in Virginia and that you are up to date on the latest codes and regulations before heading out. There are some restrictions on the number of or size of certain fish that you catch in salt waters of Virginia so be sure you familiarize yourself with these regulations before heading out.

What to Catch
So what types of fish can you expect to catch when you go Virginia saltwater fishing? Some of the most popular, largest, prized saltwater fish you can try for in Virginia are:
Red drum
Cobia
Flounder
Striped bass

This is of course, not the only choices you have of fish from saltwater areas of Virginia but they are some of the most talked about and the most sought-after species among anglers in this part of the country.

Red Drum- The traditional season for red drum is May to June but they can also be found later in the fall. Due to a prohibition against keeping fish over 26 inches long, many anglers have taken to catching these large red drum with the sole intention of tossing them back in again. Many of these fish get very large, some as much as 30-50 pounds. Saltwater fish this large and strong require special equipment to help catch them and reel them in.

Cobia- Cobia is another popular fish found in the saltwaters of Virginia’s shorelines. They share many traits with red drum and are often found in the same areas. These are often caught by chumming in the waters or using fresh cut bait with an appropriately sized hook. Some anglers have also seen results using spoons for this particular species.

Does anyone make a saltwater fishing line that floats?

I surf fish in NJ and have a lot of trouble with mussel shells getting attached to the line as it lays on the buttom. A saltwater line that floats could be the answer.

You wouldn’t want it anyway. If the line floated it could act as a sail and drag your bait or it would catch floating debris as it passed by. I think it would be more of a headache than a solution. Maybe a fishfinder rig would work best for you. It will keep your bait and hook off the bottom thus reducing snags. You’ll find the fishfinder attachment or completely set up rigs in any tackle shop on the Jersey shore.

I’m assuming your fishing for stripers? If your fluke fishing along a mussel bed you won’t catch much. Fluke like a sandy bottom where they can lay, hide, and ambush their prey.

The Center Of Bass Fishing Is In Florida

Florida has gained an international acknowledgment for its exceptional saltwater fishing, but the outstanding freshwater fishing has not yet captured the widespread attention of the same amount of visitors. Residents of this state are in on the secret, however; that they have three very active freshwater clubs here in Collier County.

Tourists and out of state bass fishermen are very much welcome here with the amenities and lodgings available for them. Boats, equipments are for rent and this provides much convenience for travelers.

Since Florida has more than 7,500 lakes available, anglers sometimes face a tough decision about where to fish. It is really very important to consider the lakes. The following list of Top Bass Fishing Areas with Bass Fishing rentals aims to help anglers find a quality place to catch either a good numbers of bass or to catch a trophy bass.

1. Lake George

Lake George is one of the many natural lakes on the St. John’s River. It has extensive vegetation that provides excellent habitat for bass. Wade fishing in eelgrass with plastic worms fished on the surface, and other top water artificial lures are productive. Fishing with live shiners is an excellent method for catching trophy bass during the spring spawning season.

2. Stick Marsh Reservoir

Anglers in this river can locate bass throughout the reservoir among a variety of habitats including woody stump fields, submerged canals and hydrilla. Summer 2004 hurricanes drastically reduced levels of hydrilla throughout the reservoir, however, which can affect where bass are located. Anglers should keep this in mind when trying to pattern fish. Plastic worms, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, soft jerkbaits, and topwater propeller baits are effective. Wild golden shiners are the top choice for anglers looking to catch a trophy fish.

3. Lake Tohopekaliga

Most anglers here target trophy bass use live golden shiners during early spring. Shiners are fished inshore near native vegetation or topped-out hydrilla . Plastic baits (worms, crawfish and lizards) flipped along grass edges, hydrilla, and bulrush will also catch quality-sized bass. Spinnerbaits, soft jerkbaits and chugging baits can also be very productive at times

4. Lake Kissimmee

Lake Kissimmee is the largest of five main water bodies on the famous Kissimmee River in central Florida. Lake Kissimmee is nationally renowned for producing high quality fishing. Tournament anglers on Lake Kissimmee are posting winning weights of 18 to 20 pounds of bass. Results of an angler survey indicated that bass anglers had an excellent catch rate of 0.54 fish/hour during spring 2004.

5. Rodman Reservoir

Rodman Reservoir, east of Gainesville and south of Palatka, covers 9,500 acres of prime largemouth bass habitat. Since its creation in 1968, Rodman Reservoir has been known for trophy largemouth bass.

6. Lake Tarpon

Anglers in this lake are most successful in flipping or pitching plastic worms along canal and bulrush edges. Offshore bass fishing is productive for anglers who fish around ledges, humps, coontail, and eelgrass beds. Popular lures offshore include shad-imitating jigs, crankbaits, jerkbaits and topwater baits. Fishing with wild shiners and live shad is also effective.

7. Lake Walk-In-Water

The lake is located south of Orlando and east of Lake Wales, and it is just south of S.R. 60. Lake Walk-in-Water has a national reputation as an outstanding spot to catch largemouth bass. Anglers frequently catch up to 25 bass a day with several ranging from four to eight pounds. The lake also produces many trophy bass exceeding 10 pounds each year. A 15- to 24-inch slot limit regulation and a three-bass daily bag limit are in place to help maintain quality bass fishing. Anglers may keep three bass per day, either under or over the protected slot range, of which only one bass greater than or equal to 24 inches is allowed.

8. Lake Istokpoga

Istokpoga is the fifth largest natural lake in Florida and has an average depth of only six feet. During angler surveys conducted from October 2003 throughout May 2004, anglers caught 124,993 bass, of which almost 55,000 were 2 pounds or heavier, and 1,448 bass were over 8 pounds.

9. Deer Point Lake

Deer Point Lake is a popular largemouth bass fishing destination in Florida’s panhandle area near Panama City.

10. Suwanee River

The Suwannee River is a pristine, black water stream flowing 213 miles in Florida from the swamp-like region at the Georgia border to salt-marsh tidal creeks at the Gulf of Mexico. This river is known for trophy largemouth bass.

11. The Everglades

The Everglades are south Florida marshlands intersected with over 200 miles of canals. Most anglers fish in the canals rather than in the marsh. Anglers work canal edges with plastic worms, soft jerkbaits, and minnow imitations. Flipping the vegetation is also a popular technique.

Wherever you decide to go, you can be sure that you can have the time of your life fishing and all at a convenience. You can just rent out a boat and eliminate the need to tow your own boat or worse have to buy your own. Other gears are also available as a rental for your own convenience and ease. There are also many lodges and inns plus cabins you can rent out for a weekend or more.

According to the laws and rules of the Bahamas, fishing charters are not allowed to have more than six lines in the water together, at any given time. By not allowing too many boats to clog up the waters, the natural balance of the cycle of fishing, feeding and spawning of the fish is protected.

Best Fly Fishing Equipment

Stores for Fly Fishing Equipment

When you begin to get into the sport of fly fishing, you will want to find a store that carries a diverse amount of supplies. Look for a local sporting goods store or even a specialty fishing store to find what you need to get started.

Most fly fishing stores will carry many different brands of flies, rods, reels, and hooks that can meet all of your fishing needs. Many specialty stores will also offer classes on various subjects such as fly tying, casting techniques, how to find the best fish, and more. They will also often organize fishing expeditions for people to participate in.

You can find a variety of items in a quality fly fishing store. Many places strive to become a “one-stop shop” for its customers. They don’t want fly fishers to have to go to several different places to get their equipment, so they will carry a diverse amount of supplies such as waders, nets, and flies.

The great part about going to a local fly fishing store is that you will get good customer service from the employees there. Chances are very good that the reason they are working there is they also have a love of fly fishing, and some of them have a wealth of information to share.

If you have any questions about the sport, just ask. Most of the employees will be happy to share their knowledge with you. If they don’t have an answer to your question, they can find out what you need to know.

You can also find fly fishing equipment in stores like Wal-Mart and K-Mart. Keep in mind, however, that these stores probably will not give you as much assistance as you may get in a specialty store. They will, however, have cheaper prices, so if you’re on a budget but still want to buy your gear, they are good options.

If you don’t have a local fly fishing store, you may want to look online as there are many, many places for you to get your supplies from as well. Cabela’s, Bass Pro Shops, and Orvis all have online stores for fly fishing supplies. The sites are well organized and easy to navigate.

You can get all of your fly fishing supplies in a specialty store or on a specialty website. Always be on the lookout for specials and clearance items as you’ll be able to amass your gear quickly with a minimum of expense. Fly fishing stores are more than just retail outfits, they can offer you information, too, about this wonderful sport!

Lake Walleye Fishing
Lake Walleye Fishing

Oneida Lake Walleye Fishing

Lake Oneida is located within the borders of the state of New York. This Lake is five miles wide in many places and ranges approximately twenty-two miles long. It is known for being the largest lake in New Your State covering just over 51,000 acres. It is also known for its great fishing possibilities because out of all the Northeastern United States, it has more fish per acre than anywhere else. Among the different species are the elusive walleye. This is one of the most sought after fish in the world.

The water in Lake Oneida reaches about 55 feet deep and has many reefs, shoals and rocky bars covering the bottom, which is the perfect environment for many species of fish. Many tournaments are held at this lake at different times throughout the year that has also helped to make it even more famous.

When and Where to Fish for Walleye on Lake Oneida

Part of the skills needed to be a great angler is to know when and where to fish. This is half the battle and will be part of what determines how successful you will be each time you go on a fishing trip. The most active times for the walleyes are early spring and the middle of the fall season. The best locations for Oneida Lake walleye fishing would be the Willard Isle, Cleveland Bar, Frenchman’s Island and Big Bay. One reason these spots are so popular is because they are filled with large weeded areas and lots of shallows for the fish to dwell in.

During the fall the walleye are preparing for the winter ahead and they will go after baitfish quite aggressively from time to time. Therefore, fishing remains good right up till the ice begins to form. Once winter hits and the ice sets in, it’s time for ice fishing. The best spot for ice fishing is in the Big Bay area and you will find many anglers here in the winter months.

If you are fishing for trophy walleye, then you should do a lot of night fishing and search in areas that are shallow and where plenty of smaller bait fish can be found. If you are fishing during the day remember that the bigger the walleye, the further away they will be from the structures and the deeper they will be in the water.

If you want to get the most from your fishing experience on Lake Oneida you will want to go out on a boat. This is the best way to enjoy the full benefits this lake has to offer. If you are not familiar with the area it is important to know that the direction of the wind can change very fast and the speed of the wind can also increase without warning. This can cause a dangerous situation to arise quickly. If you are not an experienced boater you may want to consider hiring a guide that knows the area and one that is familiar with the weather pattern to ensure your safety at all times.

Beginner Fly Fishing Equipment
Beginner Fly Fishing Equipment

Fly Fishing For Trout

Fly fishing is a pastime enjoyed by men and women the world over. Fly fishing for beginners can sometimes prove to be difficult and unfortunately have them give up on an amazing hobby.

A good book on how to fly fish can make a great difference for the beginner and make their experience an excellent one.

The first common problem faced by anyone who wants to start fly fishing is what rod to buy and how to match the line to the rod for the kinds of fly fishing they will be doing. If the line, rod and reel don’t match then it can make fly fishing a nightmare and results in many anglers just giving up.

If you are lucky to at first pick the right rod and line the next challenge is learning how to cast. With a good book on fly fishing you can learn the basic casts step by step.

Selecting the right fly pattern can result in increasing your catch by even double. This is where a book on fly fishing can prove to be the most valuable piece of equipment in any angler’s kit yet again.

Learning what flies to use at different times and in different conditions is vital to catching fish for both beginners and seasoned anglers.

Any one who wants to avoid most the trouble with beginning to fly fish should get a book on fly fishing to learn the basics and even more.

A good book of fly fishing should cover topics like:

The 5 main types of flies used for fishing.

Selecting the best rod for a beginner and matching it to the correct line and reel.

Basic casting methods.

The difference between floating and sinking lines.

Why you need backing on your line and how much of it.

How to tie different kinds of knots and when and where to use them.

River Kayak Fishing Guide

If you love fishing you should definitely give river kayak fishing a try. It is one of the most enjoyable water sports in the world. Furthermore anyone can do no matter what your age or gender, and as well as being fun it is a great way to get in shape. As with any sports there are a few things you need to know before you start your river kayak fishing quest.

Things to know

First thing first, before going river kayak fishing you need to make sure you have all the necessary gear. You need to have the basic fishing equipment for example fishing rod, bait and lures.

As for which equipment to get, that really depends on how enthusiastic you are about the sport and the budget you have to spend on the gear. Once you are sure then you can think about the model and makes that you want to purchase.

Other things to think about is whether you already know someone who takes part in river kayak fishing. A professional or experienced personal can make all the difference if it is your first time out. If you don’t know anyone you have the option to hire someone to come with you or if you wish you can learn by yourself.

An experienced personal can make you feel more safe and comfortable as they spend their time showing you things you should know which will make your time more enjoyable. Once you have the experience you should be able to go out yourself next time round.

Another important item to get is a kayak if you don’t already own one, picking the right kayak can be a bit tricky and this process should not be rushed. You need to be aware of the different types of kayaks and which one will suit you best. If you know for sure you’re going to have someone coming with you on your river kayak fishing day outing you may want to invest in a kayak with more than one seat. Another important criteria for selecting a kayak is your storage area, if you have a big storage area you should be fine with most kayaks. If you are short of space you may need to consider investing in an inflatable kayak which won’t get in your way while you’re not using your kayak.

River kayak fishing has a lot of similarities to ocean fishing, as they both have the same gear and ideas. There are also a number of safety precautions which one must take in both these sports, to ensure safety of yourself and other involved personals while you are on the water.

Preparation is important when it comes to any watersports, as the last thing you want is to discover you have forgotten something while your on the water. For this reason alone double check all your possessions before setting out on your kayak, this way you can be certain to enjoy your time and have success with the fishing.

answer if you know how to fish…!!!!!!!?

i am going fishing in a river connected to the ocean…the spot is about a mile or two apart and the water is kind of salty but very little (you can burly taste it) should i treat it like if i was fishing at the beach or should i fish like people do at a river side..???(i dont know what equipment i need to use while fishing at a river side)
….. sorry but im kind of in a hurry(im new to this)

IF i have to treat it like fishing at the ocean(shore) how do i tie the weights and the hook(which at the bottom of which)?
….
IF i have to treat it like fishing at a riverside(realing in the thing or hook in slowly)what equiment do i need?

and can i use shrimp for both or just for ocean shore fishing?or what kind of bait… PLZ HELP
i live in houston tx and yes the water in salt and fresh mixed gosh….

Generally shrimp will work anywhere (I even know someone who uses saltwater shrimp for freshwater catfish)

What you catch will depend a lot on how much salt is mixed in (you say not too salty, so I’d personally rule out a wide variety of my local fish… my brackish water area actually sometimes gets higher salinity levels than the ocean) But reds, tarpon, and (if I remember correctly) snook (not sure how many snook you got in TX, but oh well) are pretty tolerant of fresh water, and bass are pretty tolerant of salt…

In my experience, the only difference between salt and fresh water fishing is the type of fish you catch and the type of bait you use… (maybe ask at a local bait store what you should use in the area you’ll be fishing, and what you’re likely to catch?) so technique-wise, as far as I’m concerned, fishing is fishing… you’re looking for structure, cover, etc….

If you’re fishing with shrimp (or even baitfish), my suggestion is the following: put a splitshot or two a foot or so above the hook (enough to counteract any current you’re dealing with and to keep the bait in one general area) cast out to a likely spot, and give it time…

That’s me in my area, though, and I don’t know how much the area you’ll be fishing in differs from mine (and my setup will even change depending on where I’m fishing specifically). Really, your best bet would be to talk to someone who has actually fished the same area you’ll be fishing… as I mentioned… bait store people… this is why even if you puchase your tackle somewhere like Wal-mart, you should still buy your bait from a good ol’ mom and pop where the people actually FISH… yes, they may look a little scary, the place might smell funny, but I’ll tell the truth… most of what I learned getting into fishing came from these places that smelled funny and had slightly scary looking people… I learned pretty quick that most of them don’t bite… much.

Old Fishing Lures-Do You Know Where To Find Them?

There are people who like buying old fishing lures of around $5 per piece that you can buy on eBay. The really old lures, also called antique, are those present in private collections of almost 100 years, and that have not been used in water for quite a long time.

The latter group – the collectors, are those who tend to spend sums ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 for one old lure only. There is another category of people interested in old lures who oscillate between the eBay old lures and the real collector’s ones.

But these people do not always buy the old valuable lures; as a result they cannot be considered permanent members of the collectors’ group. They come into contact with the collectors and their pieces but do not become real members.

Anyway, in either case, you can find old fishing lures for sale, as well as information about them simply by accessing the Internet. With some websites, you will benefit from a lot of information regarding the history of the products available as well as advice on how you can buy them or how to start or continue organizing your own old fishing lures collection.

In addition, pictures serve for products promotion, either to just present historic details or to illustrate product specificity. If there are also some interesting stories to tell about some old fishing lures, that’s all the better, because hunting and fishing go well with story telling.

If you want some old fishing lures for the catch, and not just to display them in collections, you’ll still find some classic or traditional models in regular fishing stores.

Besides the Internet and the stores, there are lots of specialized books and magazines for fishermen. These magazines often publish useful information on both new and old fishing lures, fishing equipment and techniques and types of fish and their habitat and behavior. Therefore, you do not need to worry about finding the necessary tackles and lures for your favorite activity.

An advantage of old fishing lures over the new ones is that they can be used when fishing for various types of fish. Not long ago, when fishing was not a leisure activity but a lucrative one, people in this profession, used whatever tools and equipments they had available.

The new lures are sleek and designed to resemble live bait. On the contrary the old ones are a lot stiffer and simply imitate the bait in very rough lines.

How to Play and Land Your Fish (part Three – Playing the Fish)

The longer you play a fish, the more fun you’ll have, and the more exhausted the fish will become. You’ll have an easier time landing him if you have thoroughly worn him down with the play.

A small fish can be brought in rapidly, but NEVER attempt to hurl him from the water with your rod. Applying too much rod pressure is a good way to get a broken leader, or line, or to pull out hooks. Having said that, don’t go to the other extreme and coddle a fish for fear of losing it. Don’t let the fish do what it wants, you should be in control at all times.

In playing a really tough, heavy fish with a bait casting outfit, place the butt of the rod into your stomach, maybe hooking it under your belt, and pump and reel. Pumping and reeling is the most practical (and natural) method for fighting strong fish, regardless of tackle used. To pump a fish, lower your rod tip, reeling fast at the same time to keep a tight line, then raise the rod tip smoothly. Repeat this until the fish is coming your way.

The slow, steady rod lift allows you to exert maximum force without the risk of breaking line or leader. Never attempt to handle a good fish by steady reeling; it doesn’t fully utilize the rod’s action, and reeling alone will wear you down, and prolong the action unnecessarily.

With bait casting tackle, you can apply drag by pressing down on the reel spool with your thumb as you retrieve. However, when the “big one” hits and extra drag is needed, use both thumbs. Make sure you don’t apply too much pressure. Allow the fish some freedom to run or you may lose it because of line breakage, or a burned thumb. In playing most fish with casting tackle, a good plan is to hold the rod away from the body. Towards the end of the fight, when the fish is coming your way, place the butt of the rod against your stomach to reel and pump. If the fish runs again, quickly extend your arms so that the rod can take the strain.

Some of the free-spooling bait casting reels are equipped with star drags. These drags let you quickly master such big fresh water fish as walleyes, lake trout, muskies, northern pike, as well as some salt water species, without burning your thumb.

With a spinning, or a push button reel, the drag is usually adjusted at a point just below the breaking strain of the line or leader. Allowing the fish to run against the tension of the reel. The butt of the rod is placed under your belt, and you should use both hands to hold the ther rod when the fish is making his run. There will be times though, that the drag will need to be adjusted while the fish is being played. In the case of a large trout or salmon for example, running strongly in the current, you will need a minimum of drag. If the fish is in shallow water, nearly played out and ready to be pumped, you may bring the drag up to maximum. Adjustments like these become automatic after some experience.

Remember these points, and practice, and play about with them until they suit your individual style, and you’ll soon be improving your catches.

The Largest Fishing Directory

The easiest information obtained about fishing can be found online in the largest fishing directory in the world. Fisherman from every continent depend on a common source for Fishing Guides, fishing reports, new gear, fishing history or just to log onto a fishing forum through their favorite fishing directory.

Fishing has surpassed all other hobbies as the number one outdoor event that captures our time and money. Fishing categories can usually be disseminated with the use of a fishing directory. There are four major methods of fishing and all have adamant endorsers who seldom cross over to the other three. Cane pole fishing, spinning, bait casting and fly-fishing are the four most used methods worldwide.

Fly-fishing is the newest trend and requires the most practice and talent. With a fly fishing rod, a fly fishing reel and fly line you can add your bait which is called a fly that has a very small hook for trout. There are flies that land on top of the water and don’t sink called dry flies. There are flies that are designed to travel underwater like a swimming insect that are called wet flies. There are larger lures for saltwater fishing and tournaments for the largest fish caught on a “fly”. The use of a good fishing directory can yield fly fishing tips, fly tying techniques, gear and manufacturers.

Cane Pole fishing is the most primitive of the 4 methods using a single pole made of bamboo with a line tied to the end and a hook. In most cases this was our first experience of fishing, catching blue gills and bream. Cane poles are inexpensive and sometimes homemade using other materials at hand. Cane poles have also been improved to be a two-piece rod for easier storage and transporting. A red and white bobber added to the line increases the entertainment as we wait for the bobber to disappear and the line to race through the water. Antique bamboo poles have a subcategory in the best fishing directory.

Spinning reels with accompanying rods are as much a favorite to some as General Motors are to some automobile owners. A classy open face reel that has a bail that initializes the casting of the line and lure. Spinning reels are less likely to have a backlash that ends in line tangles. The spinning rod and reel can be used on saltwater and fresh water. The fishing industry has also developed micro-spinning reels and rods for small fish and more action for the fisherman. Most of the hundreds of manufactures of reels have separate categories in a fishing directory.

Casting reels are the foundation of mechanized fishing reels. The reels have been designed as small as a thread spool to the huge size of a small basketball to accommodate deep-Sea Fishing behemoths of 1000-pound fish. The disadvantage is a casting reel has a tendency to tangle the line. This cuts down on fishing time and amount of fish caught. Some professional fishermen have mastered the casting reel preferring it to the spinner. Websites featuring parts for casting reels and professional repair shops list their sites in the best online fishing directory.

Fly Fishing Trout – A Biologist’s Point of View with Brian Chan

Fy fishing

Great news! You can now listen to our interview with Brian Chan on a biologist’s point of view on fly fishing trout. We interviewed Brian this week and the show was a huge hit. A lot of listeners sent in their questions, but since the show was only about 90 minutes, Brian wasn’t able to answer everything. Well, don’t worry because we’ve scheduled a part two of the interview and we will try to fit in all your questions.

A fisheries biologist is well-versed with the ways of the trout and how and where to catch them. Brian spent his career managing recreational trout fisheries, worked on habitat protection and management plans for various lakes.

He said that trout are usually present in eutrophic lakes. These are lakes that are shallow and us and usually have intermittent or no inlets or outlets, which means that they have low flushing rates. The soils and geology around it make them nutrient-rich so that they grow insects for fish.

Brian talked about several other topics including alkaline and acidic lakes, spring and winter turnovers, thermocline, the main food sources for trout, and a lot of other stuff.
