The Campers Hunting Kit Knife Set is an inexpensive generic set of knives that is perfect for the young camper, hunter, or hiker in your life. The set includes two knives: a folding single-edged knife, and a Swiss Army style knife.
The folding knife is 4 ½ inches long and both the blade and handle are camouflaged. So whether the owner plans on going camping, fishing, hunting, or just wants to play army, this knife will suit him well. The knife can either be carried in the pocket, or clipped on using the detachable pocket clip.
The Swiss Army type knife has 13 functions including two blades, a bottle opener, scissors, a toothpick, and other various tools. It also includes a compass and an LED light. It is 4 inches with all the tools closed, thus making it easily transportable either in a pocket or a backpack. Many sites advertise this as a Swiss Army knife, but it can easily be seen that this inexpensive knife is just not up to the standards of a genuine or original Swiss Army knife. (Please read my previous article on the difference between a “Genuine” Swiss Army knife and an “Original” Swiss Army knife.)
While these knives are not suitable for the serious hunter or camper, it would make a perfect gift for a child. As with all knives, these also can be potentially dangerous if the young owner is not taught the proper use of a knife. However, based on the fact that the Campers Hunting Kit Knife Set is not expensive, it is camouflaged, and the multi-functional knife has a “cool” factor to it, any child would be proud to be its owner.

Does anyone call hunting or fishing with your bare hands coon hunting?
I have a disagreement with my brother. He stated that some people refer to bare handed hunting or fishing as coon hunting because raccoons hunt with their hands. I say many animals do and that’s he is wrong. Is he right or am I correct?
Your brother is totally wrong. It is a concept he dreamed up in his mind. While it makes sense to him, it obviously makes no sense to the rest of the world. This is the first time I have ever heard this used in this manner. And I had thought I had heard everything.
A filter, along with a heater, is probably the most important part of any fish tank set up. Without it the water in your fish tank will become much like a stagnant pond and little will be able to live in it except for a nice film of green algae scum.
There are two main types of fish tank filters; external and internal. Both of these types of filters can be used in either fresh water or salt water aquariums.
When it comes to internal filters there are two basic types. The first is the under gravel filter seen primarily in fresh water tanks. This consists of a raised plastic grate that sits on the bottom of the tank. The gravel or base material is placed over the top and clear vertical tubes attach to holes in the filter. These tubes have either a power head sitting on top or a bubbler inserted into them. The water is forced to flow through the gravel and back up the tube into the tank. The gravel itself is the filter, collecting the extra food and fish waste that is pulled down into it.
The second internal type filter is more along the lines of a sump tank just below the main tank and is used mainly for salt water tanks. There is an internal tube that that allows water to flow down into the sump where it is pumped through a series of filters that catch all the waste and bad bacteria. The filtered water is then pumped back to the top of the main tank keeping a continuous flow going. This is a good filter choice but it is on the pricey side and does create quite a bit of background noise.
An external filter is the best choice for any fish tank, if you can afford to use it. All the filtering is done outside the tank, keeping the filtered water separate from the unfiltered water until it is returned to the tank. A couple of long hoses connect the filter to the tank, one that supplies the filter and the other that returns the filtered water to the tank. This type of filter is the most effective but also the most expensive.
You can purchase any of these types of filters at your local fish shop, but may have a harder time finding the more expensive external type at a general pet store. The sump type filter will require a tank that is either altered or custom made. If you are going to spend the extra money on this type of set up it makes better sense to spend the money on a good quality external filter instead. An external fish tank filter will cost more up front but in the long run you will save on maintenance costs and fish costs because you will be providing the best habitat they need to live long and healthy lives.
Hear what Esca staff have to say about this fantastic new product
It turns out that fishing from a party boat is an excellent place to field test a product. With a cross section of anglers, fishing with similar rigs, outfits and baits all in virtually the same location at the same time under the same conditions makes for a reasonably scientific laboratory for which to measure results of fishing products. It was a blustery, overcast day in mid May aboard the Peconic Star, out of Greenport, NY. We set out to test a unique new product called Esca for catching fluke and it was perfectly logical to think it would work, but I still couldn’t help being skeptical.
While I’ve experienced that certain fluke rigs and bucktails work better than others and I have become a believer in scented baits as well, Esca is different. Esca, a Norwegian Company, is a high tech fish attractor the size of a quarter that emits flashes of light, mimicking the luminescence characteristics of squid and other baitfish. Various marine species have developed specialized lightemitting organs called esca. Esca means lure light, and it is used by important organisms in the sea, such as krill and squid. Esca is also the name of the light organ of the anglerfish. This has a long modified dorsal fin with a light organ at the end, which is the esca itself. The anglerfish lies motionless on the seabed using its esca to attract other fish.
When the prey goes for the esca, the anglerfish strikes and swallows the prey whole. For the anglerfish, Esca is the ultimate lure. We figured that for Esca to be effective, it had to be in the darkness of night. But we were fluke fishing in daytime so we had to select a location for it to be used in deeper water, which is one of the reasons we decided to fluke fish with the Peconic Star, which fishes in water as deep as 70 feet. We needed enough depth for it to be dark off the bottom for the Esca light to be a factor. We also wanted to be in the Peconic Bay off Shelter Island, a known place where squid typically are present in mid May, as are some very large fluke. Capt. Dave Brennen of the Peconic Star has had many anglers featured in The Fisherman reports and covers for years. Rigging Esca was an unknown, so we had to improvise.
Esca is packaged either with a treble hook, or with special squid skirt. For one rig we removed the treble using only the Esca itself and rings as a component of a typical three-way rig. We tied the Esca in line with the hook swinging about 6 inches above the hook. Another rig was tied with the skirted squid body with a three-way rig. We used the bait that the crew of the Peconic Star offered: squid, spearing, sand eels. Current/ wind was heavy that day and we used 6-plus-ounce weights, but the rigging didn’t twist or tangle. What’s amazing about this product is that it really is a technological marvel.
The lure actually generates its own power when in contact with seawater through electrolysis so Esca needs no batteries. The light-emitting lure is deactivated when it is no longer in contact with seawater. It lasts through up to 100 hours of active fishing and can withstand pressures at depths of up to 500 meters, which is good news for tilefishing and other deep water drop fishing. So, how’d we do? There were four of us fishing with Esca rigs that day and another 25 people on the boat. Many seemed to be experienced anglers and had a reasonable pick of shorts, fewer keeper fluke counts and a mess of sea robins. We weren’t so scientific, or so obnoxious as to count every fish caught, but if you’ve ever been on a party boat, you know well who’s catching the most fish.
Clearly this day, it was team Esca. We simply caught more fluke than others on that boat that day, but more importantly we seemed to have a significantly better keeper ratio. Believe me; we don’t claim to be better anglers than anyone else on that boat that day. In fact, Morten Bilet of Esca won the pool with the largest fluke! The kicker is he’s never fluke fished before. There’s only one conclusion for what we experienced, Esca does give you an edge when catching fluke in deep water and deserves a closer look, especially for ocean fluking. Here’s a thought, as a next step, I’ll try Esca for Fluke at night! Why not? I’ll also try it for stripers, tilefish, cod, sea bass and other bottom dwellers. I’m definitely intrigued by the initial results. Try one yourself, visit http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Escalure-Fishing-Tackle

What sort of fishing rods are used while fishing in the ocean?
I am planning a trip and I wanted to know what sort of fishing rods are used while fishing in the ocean? Because there is no way ordinary Lake Fishing rods will work. So I would like to know brands, names or any links of where I can find these fishing rods. Also if your fishing with live bait what are the chances of hooking a shark, if a shark is hook what are the precautions you take in order from keeping yourself from harm?
Most name-brand freshwater tackle will stand up to the salt, as long as you rinse it with fresh water after a day fishing. I’ve caught good fish in the ocean using everything from an 8-pound test freshwater spinning outfit to a heavy 80-pound test trolling outfit. It all depends where you’re going and what you’re after.
For what it’s worth, for a basic inshore trip summer in southern California, I’d recommend a largish spinning or baitcasting outfit, or midsized conventional outfit, with 15-20 pound line, though if larger fish (yellowtail, white seabass) are biting, or if you’re heading offshore for tuna, you might want to go a bit heavier. In other parts of the country your needs will be different.
As for brands, Penn is the old standby, Daiwa and Shimano make high-quality saltwater gear as well.
As for sharks and live bait: Just about every fish will eat live bait (sardines, anchovies, mackerel, etc.) as it’s their natural food. Sharks will eat it, too, but you’re no more likely to get a shark with live vs. dead bait. Most of the sharks you’re likely to see will be the small, basically harmless bottom-dwellers, these you just unhook and release. If you get a big shark and don’t want it, either break it off beside the boat or clip the line (assuming it hasn’t bit through your line already).
New Homemade Carp Fishing Bait Recipes To Beat Readymade Baits!
Countless anglers want to catch new personal best carp, catfish and barbel using homemade baits. Looking at recent carp magazines and papers you might get the impression that a revolutionary wave of new baits has arrived – but homemade bait makers have been making these forms of baits for decades! So read on, develop your own homemade edges and catch loads more big fish now!
Bait companies market baits very cleverly and often make them appear to be the very latest new thing without this being the case at all! For example, recently a Japanese-designed form of readymade boilie made without additional concentrated flavours so common in such baits has been claimed to be unique. But numerous anglers have been making homemade baits for decades using zero added flavours while exploiting and natural extracts such as marine ones to enhance the impacts of baits both nutritionally and in terms of bait attraction and performance over all. This has included different forms of seaweed products and protein-rich marine products such abalone powder for instance.
Another so-called new innovation is readymade baits that dissolve quickly in your swim so attracting carp without filling them up; but such baits have by definition been the most frequently made homemade baits for a massive range of fish species for centuries – if not millennia! Fibrous pastes that hold together so you can put them on your hook or rig and know they will be resilient are nothing new either. Just one Western prime example is the old medieval Isaac Walton recipe that includes using cotton wool incorporated into sweetened, preserved high protein homemade paste!
So pellet and bait syrups are new things right? Even before the seventies anglers with an ounce of curiosity about experimenting with bait substances have soaked or dipped baits in a massive range of attractive and stimulating materials and liquids. Refiners syrup (Tate and Lyles Golden Syrup) and their liquorice-tasting black syrup have been used in homemade baits in many ways for decades. Even in the late seventies when everyone made their own baits because they had no other option many baits were dipped, glugged, soaked or boosted in some way to improve results.
A very simple example was the instant method of producing extra-stimulating trout pellets. These were coated in flavours, marine extracts, liquid yeast, syrups or liquid sugars and intense sweeteners, essential oils, marine and nut and seed oils, molasses, liquid proteins foods such as Minamino etc decades before such baits became popular as readymade baits in the angling press.
Easily digestible pre-digested boilies suitable for all year round use (even in the lowest temperatures) have been used for decades – well before readymade baits of this type appeared on bait shop shelves or in glossy magazine adverts. In fact when you think about it, the massive majority of commercial bait company bosses of today started out making homemade baits in their kitchens or in their garden sheds and of course many still do although their shed may be much bigger!
Chilli baits and other forms of spicy baits are really old; these go way back in time beyond the days of soaking luncheon meat in curry powder or incorporating spices in special baits in the seventies for instance.
Flavouring fake baits such as foam has been going on since decades ago – I was doing this at the start of the eighties for surface fishing. It also improved results using dog biscuits off the bottom. Spraying maggots with flavours, enhancers, liquid foods etc is old as the hills only liquid foods is a trendy term today – I bet Isaac Walton did not call his high protein rabbit meat baits food baits but they were of course! For me personally, when fake corn appeared flavouring these and other fake baits was second-nature because I had been flavouring foam with all kinds of things since the seventies when it was very useful in stopping soft meat baits from falling off my rig.
In the days before carp fishing became so commercialised you often had to source and design much of your equipment including adapting or making rods, landing nets, bank sticks, indicators, bivvies, homemade foam-padded sun lounger bed chairs and so on. For my early carp fishing rigs before pop-up boilies were used by the masses, I used homemade floater cake propped up for the long term by highly buoyant rubber foam from my dads printing plates – often coated in attractive solvents from the printing trade I might add!
Incidentally I am one of those anglers who cares not for fashions – instead of wafters and expensive tiny pots of pop-up baits a very effective answer to create balanced or trendy in – word wafting presentations is the use of a cut-down piece of liquid food and flavour-soaked rig foam. Rig foam works when flavoured or not but I find it far more effective when it has some residual food or attractor whether this is natural esters or liquid marine extracts etc. Pre-soaked foam used on your hair or hook itself is ideal to for getting loads more bites when using pre-soaked pellets and luncheon meat and prevents soft baits getting pulled off too!
You might think that the concept of using prepared particles that contain a combination of 2 or more types of particle baits such as hemp and sweetcorn is a new thing. But going back decades ago, any general coarse angler who aimed for carp by the evening of a days fishing built up his swim using a combination of all kinds of particle type baits. This would often include any of the following and more: maggots, breadcrumbs, sweetcorn, stewed wheat, stewed pearl barley, fresh homemade pellet-based pastes, chopped worms, soil, soaked crushed egg food, desiccated coconut, peanuts, cracked corn, corn flakes, essential oil soaked luncheon meat, bird foods such as those containing molasses and insects, etc.
Also in the list was the additive Robin Red (which seemed relatively far cheaper in the old days than it is today!) In the eighties using crushed tiger nuts and various pellets soaked in tiger nut extract, powdered palatants and enhancers for example was a great edge for me.
At that time I experimented at home with a mind-blowing array of additives, liquids and associated materials. Fishing over a bed of extremely open- textured unique homemade crushed boilies at a time when most anglers slavishly stuck to a bed of round whole boilies or particles of a single type was just one edge that produced many big fish for me.
Using maggots is far from a new thing for carp. In the early eighties it was common to get great catches by fishing any kind of semi-buoyant low density bait over a bed of maggots. I remember flavouring my maggots with Scopex and Chocolate Malt and dying my maggots and sweetcorn black in the eighties – to great effect!
Liquid Robin Red is far from a new thing either. I loved using this stuff as part of my own unique homemade flavouring and liquid food combinations since the seventies. Originally I was soaking Robin Red with Minamino to try and make the Minamino flavour different when I used it in my homemade boilies, baits soaks, ground bait liquids and so on. It was a small step to heat this liquid to make it far more concentrated. I then got onto the liquid Robin Red that Rod Hutchinson supplied for a period of time – I have no idea why this product was discontinued because it was really was great stuff!
I can tell you that on many waters where the Robin Red liquid of today will be used you will soon do better by adapting it to make it unique after it has hooked enough fish and when they have inevitably become much warier of it! A simple addition of an essential oil, a new seed, an oleoresin or terpenoid type product or an extra spice and unusual sweetener for example will give it new life again – I love all this creative stuff and my bait secrets ebooks are stuffed with such detailed edges!
If you think that pineapple baits with butyric acid are new – think again; this trick was going on long before I started carp fishing in the mid-seventies and then it was used all year not just as a special winter trick. If you want some tips on making better ground baits and more effective stick mixes for instance, get to know a few guys from the States who competitively fish pay-lakes where no ground-baiting or chumming is permitted – many of these guys are real experts and some have literally multiple generations of experience in making these baits!
If you must use fresh boilies try cutting them down for hook baits so all the outer skin is taken off and so you have square baits of about 8 or 10 millimetres in diameter, then soak them in your special dip for a few hours – 3 hours to 5 hours is fine. Use a number of these on a hair with dip-soaked foam on the end of them at the bait stop to pop-up the end of the string of baits.
A tip to finish up this piece – if you want a different bait dip to almost anyone else – for your fake baits, pellets or boilies, either use the juice from ready-prepared hemp or from hemp that you have prepared for yourself. Add about 10 percent liquid inclusion of high PC liquid lecithin (which is an energy-rich feeding trigger proven by one of the more famous fish scientists by the name of Harada!) I might also suggest adding a 10 percent addition of pure triple-filtered salmon oil in your baits too – especially for warmer water baits and through into the autumn time. I get these liquid additives from Phil at Carpfishingpellets online.
Why not try soaking your boilies in this alternative combination so that your baits are fully hydrated in advance of fishing. Why not try fishing them on your rig using a trimmed disc of rig foam to stop them coming off. Put a baiting needle through your baits a few times and fish not whole baits but jagged thirds or halves cut very roughly so it seems that they have already been attacked by smaller fish – and see how the bigger wary carp respond! (For further information on making, adapting, designing and boosting your baits see my bait secrets ebooks website in my biography right now!)

Texas Saltwater Fishing – How to Catch Saltwater Fish in Texas – Popular Species
The great state of Texas is known for many things, one of which is great saltwater fishing. When you think of Texas, shorelines may not be your first impression but many anglers have discovered that there are great locations for saltwater fishing in Texas. You can be among them once you learn where and how.
Texas saltwater fishing along the Gulf Coast is an amazing adventure that can provide you with a lot of exciting stories to tell. With the wonderful weather southern Texas has to offer, you can go fishing all year long so it is great for vacationers that want to get away and enjoy some fishing during the winter months. So whether you live in Texas or just visiting, the saltwater fishing is always great.
There are many wonderful fishing areas for you to enjoy in Texas that provide a variety of saltwater species to make each of your trips a fun and exciting one. Below you will learn what saltwater species are available in Texas and where they can be found. Some of these locations are well-known while others are more remote areas that are still being discovered by many anglers. So what kind of saltwater fish can you expect to find in Texas?
Most Popular Texas Saltwater Species
You can find saltwater fish anywhere you find saltwater in the state of Texas but what kind of fish can you expect they will be? There are several popular Texas saltwater species located along the border that draws in anglers from all over. Galveston and South Padre Island are two well-known locations where you will find redfish, speckled trout and flounder. These areas provide some of the best and most exciting saltwater fishing in Texas. Anglers come from all over the nation to visit these locations. There are a lot of access points and jetties that help to make fishing easy and convenient along the coast of Galveston.
One area that is not quite so popular but should be is the Lower Laguna Madre. Here you will find redfish, speckled trout, tarpon, mangrove snapper and snook. This southern stretch of coastal land can be found between South Padre Island and Port Isabel and really does deserve your attention as it has some excellent fishing opportunities to offer.
The eastern and western parts of the Matagorda Bay each have a lot to offer when it comes to Texas saltwater fishing. It is a small bay where you will also find an abundance of speckled trout but many times it is overlooked and not given the recognition it really deserves. This is really a shame as it does have a lot to offer.
You will find flounder, redfish and trophy size speckled trout at Sabine Pass which is found at the Texas and Louisiana border. The abundances of redfish have made Rockport famous but you can also find flounder, black drum and speckled trout here. The Texas state record for trout was caught in Baffin Bay for two years straight.
i fish on the intercoastal in florida. i use squid as bait. it rained hard from about 3 pm to 4 pm. it dried up very quickly. would the early heavy rain affect the fishing later tonight?

Purchasing Saltwater Fishing Supplies – Some Handy Tips To Help You
If you’ve been considering the specialized outdoor sport of saltwater fishing, you are sure to be looking out for the right gear and clothing besides tips and techniques you could put to good use so as to make this fishing trip the most rewarding one too! Checking for the necessary saltwater fishing supply list from an expert fisherman is the best way to begin planning beforehand for getting practical and useful guidance on quality, effective and useful fishing gear for your skill level.
At times, having such a checklist of necessary saltwater fishing supply and info on techniques as well as fishing tips and tricks is just the right research any project needs; newbies especially fishermen keen on this specialized sport of saltwater fishing can do with the guidance that comes from experience and forgetting what to pack is a frustration they can do without. Thus, for beginners especially, the need for pre-checking on essential saltwater fishing supply items and where to pick them up from is very important; besides the rod, reels and line requirements, what needs to be considered are the right clothes and other safety gear and how to stay healthy on a fishing trip! Depending on the length of the fishing trip, you also need to think about the food supplies and night travel aspects of your fishing trip to ensure smooth sailing.
The basic saltwater fishing supply list will primarily consist of a rod, reel, sufficient line the kind of bait you need according to the species of saltwater fish you are focusing on as well as cutters for snipping the nylon; perhaps the landing net and big plastic packets too. The clothing for a saltwater fishing trip needs to be wind, sun and rain protective gear and you may need to carry along insect repellants too; besides this, it’s important to remember to dress in layers for insulation in uncertain weather conditions. Packing should ideally include a flannel shirt, polypropylene Tee, strong but lightweight pants and durable sandals. Long johns in polypropylene material, sturdy boots, fleece jacket, raincoat, waders and additional pair of socks are a smart investment in fishing clothing as are accessories like a wide-brimmed hat and goggles; determine what to leave out depending on the season and place you are visiting for fishing holiday.
More on saltwater fishing supply basics: pack in some good quality sunscreen, emergency medical kit, water-proof matches, Swiss knife, insulated blanket, watch, compass, mobile phone and of course, your fishing permit besides the necessary fresh drinking water supply and dry food rations. Some smart food choices include sandwiches, fresh fruit, healthy trail mix, energy snack or granola bars, vegetable sticks and small cakes.

Aquarium Discus Fish- Discover How To Get Free Discus
Beautiful but Temperamental
Aquarium discus fish in my opinion are the most beautiful fresh water fish you can keep. Now I know some people might say cichlids or clown loaches however it’s not the point. With their beauty comes a price Discus can cost in upwards of 300 dollars a fish. Yeah I know it sounds crazy and I would never pay or recommend someone pay such a price for a fish. However where I’m from in Michigan you can expect to pay around 45 bucks for a juvenile and up to 100 bucks for a full sized adult. Even though these price are high when you follow some careful tips you may only have to buy two fish for your tank.
Breed and save.
Keeping discus is only the first fun part of the hobby. Breeding is taking your fish keeping to the next level and a very popular method to save money on your expensive fish. Keep in mind this is not as easy as it sounds; it is not as difficult as it sounds either. Breeding discus is very popular among discus keepers because of the high cost of the fish. In some cases the fish will even bred without any special care giving you a nice surprise in a few weeks.
Breeding Tips
There are a couple of ways to get started breeding your discus. When you are setting up a new aquarium discus fish tank you have two options. The easiest option would be to buy a mating pair for your fish dealer. This is the fast track way to start breeding your fish however it is the most expensive one. Some mating pairs can cost between 100 and 300 dollars. The next option is to purchase a group of at least six juvenile fish. When using this method it isn’t one hundred percent guaranteed however it usually does work in most cases.
Determining Mom and Dad
In a little bit of time you start to notice mom and dad. What I mean by this is you will see two fish pair off and they will start defending their territory against all of their other tank mates. When you notice this behavior you have found mom and dad. Now it’s time to move them both into the breeding tank. A breeding tank is a tank separate from the main tank you put your fish in. I recommend at least a 20 gallon tank for breeding discus.
Setting up the breeding Tank
When you set up your breeding tank use the water from the original tank to keep them unstressed during the exchange. You want to keep the bottom clear, no rocks no gravel. The reason for this is to make it easier to keep the water clean by removing any leftover food and waste. The only decor you want in the tank is a vertical spawning surface. “Aquarium Discus Fish” lay their eggs like angle fish do. They like to spawn there eggs on a vertical surface. A vertical surface would be either a plant or an upside down ceramic pot. if you so desire you can put a potted plant to give the fish some shelter but it is not necessary by any means. Filtration is another important factor. Use a sponge filer for the biological load. I like to use small power filter as well and put a little bag of peat moss in the back to keep the pH level in check.
IMPORTANT BREEDING TANK TIP
Keep in mind the breeding tank is a usually a lot smaller than your original tank. You have to watch this tank for ammonia spikes and water temp. Check the water every day and clean the waste out of it every day. This is very important in the breeding process. Discus like clean water and will not breed without it..

Hi Monica F,
As far as i observed the black angle which died was not eating at all. Where as the white angle was eating properly.
I seperated the black but she died same day. Where as white is still kicking and alive.

List the technical advances that have affected fishing.?
Also,

Which takes longer, ruining a fishery or rebuilding one? why?
PLease, I need help.
GPS tracking, advanced sonar and an increased ability to target fishing populations has resulted in the decline of all species of fish. However, in the last decade release practices like trap nets and release methods that have been enforced to allow turtles, porpoises and non game species escape nets allow species to be spared death.
Several organizations including massive sportfishing associations have lobbied and successfully funded replenishing programs for targeted species of game fish. Many fish have been brought back from the brink of extinction from the hatcheries funded by these organizations.
It takes much longer to replenish the resource than to deplete it due the advances in the targeting systems and the death of what is called “by-catch”. Many fish and other marine species die in the nets meant for only one or two species.
Lake Fishing – Tips To Enhance Your Great Outdoor Experience
Want to have a great Fishing Experience: Read on for the Tips involving Lake Fishing
It has been many years since lake fish have been grouped in three general categories: food fish, game fish and forage or bait fish.
The category for the food fish includes suckers, some variety of catfish yellow perch etc. Though it has not been thought of having any sport value like the game fish but it has a good recreational and economic value
The category for the game fish includes bass, pickerel, pike perch, pike etc. They are popular for their sporting value.
In lake fishing it is really hard to describe the correct procedure for casting. The better way would be to go a beach and see a person who is an expert at this work and learn to emulate his work.
But lake fishing can be a real fun and even a new to the fishing world can master it quickly. There fore for the novice to learn the art of fishing here are the few tips which can be helpful.
a. For the lake fishing as other forms of fishing the requirement is of a smooth and snappy stroke. It should not be as snappy as when you are snapping a whip. Thus stroke type can cause loss of many flies.
But it should always be remembered by the anglers that the line is cast and not fly. The fly is just like a passenger tied to the leader.
c. Both the forward cast and the backcast require proper timing.
d.You should be aware of the habitat of the fish and the kind of fish that are present in the lake. They can be sunfish or small mouth black bass. They can usually be spotted in the vicinity of submerged stump or log or near the plants.
e. Strong and big sturdy rods should be used when you plan to catch a big fish. The big fish like bass generally weigh twelve pounds and they inhabit the pond or the lake. These fish attain such weight due to the abundance of food found in the lakes and ponds.
So to handle these big fishes the correct length and the weight of the rod is eight and a half feet and from four to four and three quarters of an ounce in weight.
So the basic principles involved in lake fishing are easy to learn and master and with little practice and patience, the early bird can become a good angler in the lake.
What will i need to catch some good bass when i go fishing this sunday on rockland lake?

Does anyone know how I can become an amateur bass fishing angler? I can’t find any information on this at all
For the most part, if you fish for bass, you are already an amateur bass angler. To get involved into tournaments and such, most communities have BASS clubs or fishing clubs of some sort. They will hold local tournaments to qualify for regional, state, etc. This is the path you need to take in the quest for the big show (B.A.S.S. Master). Local clubs also offer much insight to local and regional lakes and reservoirs that you may otherwise miss out on. Follow this link to get you started….

Have you had the opportunity to fish in freshwater? While some find it to be a distant relation to other types of fishing, it is still one of the best ways to spend your time. There are hundreds of lakes out there that you can be enjoying virtually any time that you would like to. To learn more about it, take a look at your options here.
Fresh water fishing is done in lakes, rivers and streams that have minute quantities of dissolved salts. Freshwater sources are precipitation or melting ice and snow. There are many fresh water fish species, but some of the most important ones are bass, catfish, pickerel, pike sunfish, trout, salmon, muskellunge, sturgeon and walleye.
Equipment for Freshwater Fishing
What you’ll need for basic freshwater fishing equipment includes a fishing rod and reel, fishing line between 4 and 10 pound-test, a variety of sinkers, a variety of hooks (sizes 6 to 10), floats, bait and in most locations, a fishing permit or license. There are a variety of both live and artificial baits that work well for fresh water fishing.
Bait You’ll Need
Live bait works well for fresh water fishing. Freshwater fish feed on a variety of prey, including earthworms, insects, insect larvae, frogs, minnows, chub, shad, crayfish and small fish species such as smelt. Freshwater fishing bait such as earthworms, crayfish, frogs, minnows, chubs and shads can be caught in its natural habitat. Look around piers and in shallow water. Freshwater bait can also be purchased from your local bait and tackle shop.
Artificial bait is manmade bait that attracts fish to bite or strike. It includes plastic worms, insects, flies, small jigs, lures, spoons, streamers, flies, spinners and more. Artificial bait can be purchased at fishing tackle and bait shops or online. Some anglers prefer to buy the supplies for these types of baits and make their own.
There are a wide variety of prepared baits that you can use for freshwater fishing. These include kernel corn, bread balls, cheese balls, egg bags, liver, cereal balls, chicken entrails. Here is just a short list of some freshwater fish and the bait that attracts them.
Catfish earthworms, liver, chicken entrails, hotdogs, frogs, tadpoles, crayfish and most lures. At times you can even catch them on shiny hooks that have no bait.
Pike earthworms, frogs, minnows, shad, all types of small fish species, crayfish, chub, spinners, spoons and egg sacs.
Go ahead and give it a try. If you would like to learn more about this type of fishing, you need to talk to someone that is a professional that can show you just what you need to do, where to go and what to use to be successful at freshwater fishing.
I will be visiting Girdwood, Alaska this summer in July for a fishing trip. Freshwater fishing, not saltwater. Does anyone know what kind of fishing equipment I will need for the rivers around there? [Ex: Type of fishing poles: Heavy, medium, light etc...] Also, does anyone have any recommendations on boats rentals?
-Thanks

Freshwater fishing. The right fishing tackle choice.
Feeling the sweet brisk fall breeze being out in the open waters is what every man dreams of. The first cast, the first fish, the first smell of landing that gigantic northern pike. Feeling the line torpedo off like a cannon shooting a cannonball while your hanging on for dear life, as you get the first glimpse of the monster Northern Pike that inhaled your bait. Have you ever felt these extravagant feelings or if you have and you would like to know and understand more, than this is for you.
Location….Location…Location…
You need to find a lake that has and is known for big pike fishing. There is nothing quite like the lakes of Northern and central Manitoba because they are abundant with trophy pike. Once you arrive to the lake, the next question is where do you start? I’m sure you’ve heard of the rule…. 80% of the fish are caught in 20% of the water, and this rule especially applies here. In late fall the cabbage weeds have established full growth and as fall and winter approach the pike are looking for a large meal that will sustain them for the grueling winters that this portion of the globe has.
When you spot a good cabbage weed bed, work the outer edges of the weeds. Approach the weeds slowly so you don’t scare off the large pike. After you have fished the outer weed edges, start working the center and then the backside of the weed bed.
If you are catching the smaller pike, although it’s fun, it usually is not a good sign of finding the giant northern pike there. If the smaller ones are around, that means they are in no immediate danger of being eaten by larger fish, therefore the likelihood of a big pike being around is not very good. Giant Northern Pike are very territorial and usually hold in the “prime real estate” of the weeds. Prime cabbage real estate can be defined as transitional edges of the weed beds such as drop offs or rocky terrains adjacent to the weeds, which sometimes can be inside void areas as well.
As the fishing season progresses, the key for catching larger northern pike is to use larger fishing lures. No lure is too large. I have had many twelve inch fishing lures swallowed all the way down. Large buck tails or jerk baits usually have the best result.
One of the most exciting things to see is seeing a giant northern swimming right after your bait, but seeing the bite also can be one of the biggest downfalls. The most common downfall fishermen run into is trying to set the hook before they feel the bite. Ninety percent of the time if you set the hook and you don’t feel the bite; you’ll not hook the fish. Always feel the fish before you pull.
The best sign of a good cabbage weed bed is when you have set the hook on a monster pike and you see numerous weeds getting sawed off with your line. That is when you know that you may have hooked a trophy fish of a lifetime.

What is an appropriate size of fishing line for bass, walleye, pike? and can fish see too heavy of a line?
also, is braided or monofilament line better?
i have a different wieght and brand on every pole i have a 10-12lb. line for walleye stern. for pike i use a 18in steel leader and 15lb. spirderwire. and for bass a 8-10lb. eagle claw.hope you start you use what i use and then, you will catch the big one.
1. If you’re bound for a fishing trip to the North Country, expect to spend much on transportation, your outfit, licenses and permits. For a lot of people, the trip’s highlight will be fishing. For this reason, you should get yourself a new line on your reel.
2. Protect your eyes while fishing and you should only invest in a good quality pair of polarized sunglasses, as it will not only aid in protecting the eyes, but will also provide superior visual penetration into the water.
3. Keep mosquito repellent as well as plastic worms in a separate compartment, making sure it is out of the tackle box as both items do contain lacquer solvent that can soften the paint of any metal, plastic, or wood lure and the soft paint may never harden.
4. Always keep a small file or a small stone handy to be used to keep the hooks needle sharp.
5. Learn how to tie good knots. Practice carefully until such time that you are already certain that they will hold.
General fishing guidelines:
1. Don’t fish with any bait in just one spot for more than 10 casts. If, by those casts, nothing changes, it’s time you change location.
2. Properly position the canoe, not too close or too far from the fish. If you are too close, you will frighten the fish. If you are too far, you can not accurately place the lure in position.
3. When doing top water fishing, do not set the hook until you can really feel that the fish is on the lure, being very careful not to surprise the fish. Just keep on working the lure cautiously towards you.
4. Be very patient. Just be certain that you know you are in a suitable fish-producing area.
5. Always be quiet, as sound can travel through the water better than through the air.
6. Release carefully, instantly and safely any fish that you do not plan to eat. Preservation of Ontario’s fishing resources is essential and needed for fishing to continue thriving.
7. While waiting for your catch, or when you do catch anything or none at all, look at the scene behind you, take a deep breath and enjoy the only lakeland wilderness in the entire world!
Fishing Regulations
Carry your license with you
Residents of Canada should have a fishing-version Outdoors Card and must have a fishing license tag that is attached to it so that it can be considered as valid.
Non Canadian residents should have their basic license form signed and have the correct license tag fastened in order that it can be considered valid.
Keep in mind always that a Outdoors Card or non-resident license card is non-transferable; it grants privileges to you alone. It should be carried with you each time you go fishing.
Note too, that whenever a Conservation Officer requests to see and examine your license, the law requires you to show it.
State and District Regulations
State and District rules control angling in Ontario. The key and major State law with regards to fishing is the Ontario’s “Fisheries Act”; this defends guards and takes care of and save fish and its habitat. Likewise, it controls the fishing seasons, limits to catch, possession, and size, and the gears allowed as well as fish sanctuaries. On the other hand, the “Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act” is the major provincial law that regulates fishing. It is stated in this decree, that fishing licenses are issued.
Wildlife Protection and Preservation Officers
Wildlife Protection Officers have the authority to inspect, search, arrest, and seize under the different act they carry out, together with Ontario’s “Fish and Wildlife Preservation decree” as well as the “Fisheries Regulation and Act”. During the Conservation Officers duty, they may do the following:
1. Ask important questions that are in relation to the inspection they are conducting;
2. Review and examine buildings;
3. Stop and examine a boat, vehicle, or aircraft;
4. Confiscate certain items which are related to the offence that an individual may have done;
5. Search and investigate having a warrant to legalize such search;
6. Search and investigate having no warrant to support the search in situations that require immediate attention and action;
7. Arrest anybody that the Wildlife Preservation Officer supposes and believe has committed, or is on the act of performing, or is about to perform a violation or offence.
Open Seasons
The opening and closing dates of fishing season changes and is determined by the species on the area. It is illegal to try catching a fish for which the season has already been closed, even if one is going to release it after. Do understand that closed seasons protect the fish at time of the year when they are most susceptible especially during spawning.
Unless specially stated, species that are not on the list have a year-round open season.

Saltwater fishing is entirely different from that of fresh water fishing, except that both are fishing. This is because of the area that any ocean fishing covers, ocean is vast with huge number of fishes in large-sizes. When you consider freshwater, only freshwater fishing gear, which is suitable for angling in the freshwater, is used. If you use the same freshwater fishing gear, it is inappropriate. This fresh water fishing gear will not be able to cover wide and deep distances, also they might be suitable for the fishes grown in freshwater pool, but it would not be suitable for those huge fishes in sea.
Saltwater Fishing Gear
To start your saltwater fishing one must upgrade the equipments initially. The first step would be to get a saltwater fishing gear. As we have already mentioned saltwater fishing and freshwater fishing differs in the size of the fishes and in the area of fishing. To cover a wide area and to get big saltwater fishes one has to enhance the fishing equipments. When you consider saltwater fishing gear, there are two main things that a sport angler should consider,
Saltwater fishing gear rod: Generally, rods might be smaller in length for freshwater fishing, but this saltwater fishing gear rod should be at least nine feet in length so that they reach good depth of the ocean.
Saltwater fishing reel: Next, we should consider a fishing reel that is specially designed for saltwater. Saltwater is generally corrosive, to withstand corrosion these reels must be built with special materials so that they stay well for long.
Coastal fishing might also involve offshore fishing, which means fishing miles away from the coastline. In that situation, one has to tackle the angling and then get successful with the offshore fishing. Fishing gear fishing would be successful most of the times of you are able to maintain the best angling.

what is the difference between inshore and offshore fishing?
I answered this one a few months ago:
In saltwater, offshore fishing is fishing far enough from shore that the bottom structure doesn’t matter. You get tuna and marlin in water thousands of feet deep, trolling and looking for moving fish or schools of fish. That’s offshore fishing.
Inshore, you look for fish which are orienting on the bottom structure, whether you’re fishing near the surface or on the bottom. While you don’t always anchor for this kind of fishing, the water is shallow enough that you could. In general, inshore fishing is done within a few miles of shore, offshore is farther out.
Based on this myth there is no such thing as a one size fit all fly fishing rod. Often, advertisers claim that their products are one-size-fits-all – even purveyors of fly fishing rods. This is not the case as most fly fishermen know.
While there are a multitude of fly fishing rods available, no one choice can be considered the “ultimate”. When you look for a fishing rod, look for one that is just right for you. Don’t waste your time looking for a one-size-fits-all kind of rod. Here are a few qualities the right rod should have.
When picking how and where you would like to fish, it is a good idea to know what kind of fish you are looking for prior.
There are many types of fish that can be caught through fly fishing. Fly fishing is perfect for the following species: crappies, sunfish, small mouth bass, black bass, rainbow trout and redfish. The types of fish mentioned above do vary in size and weight, and therefore you will need the right type of fly fishing rods and fly fishing tackle to catch them.
Heavier tackle is required for larger fish, and also, smaller tackle is needed for smaller fish. Once you have decided that you want to try fly fishing, the key is to determine what kind of fish you would like to catch and choose the appropriate fly fishing rod for that type of fish.
Think About The Location You’d Like To Go Fly Fishing.
You need to have the right information, such as where to use one, before you go out hunting for a fly fishing rod. When you go to the store to buy your fishing tackle, be sure that you already know where you plan to fish. The reason for this is that you will need different equipment for different types of locations. A light rod is needed if you are planning to fish in an area with a small, tranquil river surrounded by a lot of trees, this will allow you to cast at short distances.
Rainbow trout tend to live in small streams and do not weigh much. Light tackle and a short line will work nicely for catching them. However, if your goal is to secure a prize-winning catch while fishing in a large lake, you may want to consider investing in the heavy fly fishing rods.
it depends on what your fishing for. theres fish everywhere there. your best bet would be to talk to the local fish shops down there. they will know when and where the fish are biting. i just got back from marathon and the snapper fishing in the gulf was great.
Fishing is a nature-oriented sport that allows you to relax. Many people want to experience fishing, but are unable to buy the appropriate supplies for their adventure.
There are many fishing stores around, but majority of the stores try to sell unnecessary fishing supplies to gain more from the innocence of the fishing novice. Here are some of the basic fishing supplies you need for any kind of fishing in any location.
1) Hooks – In a variety of shape and sizes, these are one of the most important parts of your fishing gear. Fishing hooks are affordable, so you could stock an assortment of hooks for each kind of fishing. Majority of hooks are shaped like a letter “J.”
2) Rigs – These are used for catching different kinds and species of fish. The two most common rigs are the Bobber and Crappie. Bobber rigs are suitable for catching Bluegills and are best for beginners.
3) Sinkers – As the name suggests, this fishing equipment is used to cast lighter lures and to quickly drop the bait to the bottom of the water where the fish are located. Together with the bobbers, the sinkers are used to hold your line at any given point.
In fishing stores, you will find numerous variations of sinkers that come in different sizes, weights, and shapes. The current speed and the water depth would determine the weight of the sinkers you will need for your fishing trip.
4) Bobber – It is also called a cork or a float. The bobber’s purpose is to let you know when a fish bites your bait. The commonly used bobbers are pencil, slip bobbers and buttons. They come in different sizes to fit all kinds of baits and sinkers. The best bobbers are those that are smaller. The wind would blow the bobber back to you if it were too light and would scare the fishes off when it is too big.
5) Swivels – This kind of fishing equipment is used when you are fishing with bait such as a spinner or a minnow. These kinds of bait tend to twist and turn, which would likely your line deformed. By using the swivel and connecting it between your line and bait, it would allow the lure to spin around without tangling up the line. Swivels are affordable and come in different sizes to fit the bait and hooks you use.
Other supplies are the tackle box and your bait. The bait would vary depending on the kind of fishing you wish to perform.
Now that you know the basics, you could easily enjoy your fishing trip affordably and safely

Alaska Fishing Trips – 3 Tips For A Unique Vacation
Fly fishermen and traditional tackle fishermen are two options for fishing trips Alaska style. Not only is there a variety of fish available in Alaska which you would not have been able to find in warmer seas, but there are also opportunities for charter boat fishing. In case you have had the experience of fishing only in the southern region, it would be a great change for you to try fishing in Alaska and spending your vacation there.
1. Unique experience of fishing in Alaska
This is a beautiful and unique experience, because the ocean bright salmons come to the surface to feed and are within sight when you are trying to bait them. Most fishermen love this as it is so much more exciting than not being able to see the fish which are at the bottom of the water.
There are the different kinds of salmons in these waters and you may be able to bait a huge Chinook king salmon or the usual pink salmon as these are found in abundance in these waters. Fresh fish has a taste of its own and most anglers love baiting salmon fish which also makes a tasty meal.

Another bottom dweller that is slender bodied and an insatiable predator is the Alaska lingcod. This fish can be found on your trip to Alaska for angling. This lingcod can be found amidst the rock pinnacles underwater, in the northern gulf of coastal Alaska. Why do guys get uptight during fishing, camping, hunting trips, making it feel less like a vacation?
I tend to like lazy vacations, but sometimes I go with guys fishing and stuff, and there’s usually one or two that seem more tense about getting out there and conquering two or three times a day than just relaxing and possibly just sitting around the cabin. They seem to judge those that hang back and those that tell them “relax, we’re on vacation.”
What’s up with this and how to deal with it?
Maybe it’s the “I am the male, so I am supposed to hunt meat and provide” mentality flaring up. Or maybe it’s that guys whose days are usually filled with meetings, going to the gym, etc. just don’t know how to relax. The best way to deal with it might be ahead of time. You could take the person aside and say, “Look, we’re considering this vacation to be our chance to get away and relax; really take it easy. We don’t have a big agenda and may spend time just sitting around the cabin. If that doesn’t sound like a fun time to you, you might want to consider getting a different cabin, or taking a separate vacation.” Good luck.

There are quite a few ways to get WOW gold. Typically, gamers farm for gold by using various techniques. You must have time and patience to use these methods as you progress in the game slaughtering different humanoid creatures.
Although it may seem a bit dull, humanoid creeps drop gold and cloth that you can collect. If you decide to collect the cloth, plan to sell it at the Auction House for a high price; it can be a valuable commodity.

Another option to build up your gold is to find what items are selling hot. You can then purchase these items and turn around and sell them for far more. There is risk involved in this technique as you can’t be sure items will continue to be popular, however, it is a fast way to attain gold.

How to become a pro bass angler? Also a fishing guide?
I am wondering about how to become a pro bass angler, like these guys you see all the time in the tournaments with their sponsors and everything. I want to know the steps you would have to do to become one, also about becoming a guide. My dad was a fishing guide in Colorado, but he has passed many years ago so I am left with little information. So please give me some help.
-Thanks,
Well, first you must actually LOVE fishing. To excel in anything it helps if you like it.
Before you start dreaming about “The Classic” (and the $500 G purse) begin by joining a Bass fishing club. You will learn most everything you need to know at a decent club. Spend 2-3 years fishing the club scene and WINNING. If you start winning,( in a larger club), you will eventually gain notoriety and MAYBE sponsors.
Around that 4th-5th year (if you have the money) start fishing larger tourneys, B.A.S.S, Red-man, F.O.M, FLW, Etc.
Sounds easy? It’s NOT!
Things you will need:
1. A decent Bass boat. You would need “at least” a 150HP Bass-boat to seriously compete. Price: $15-$30 G’s
2. Thousand’s of dollars in tackle.
3. Entry fee moneys.
4. TALENT, LUCK & knowledge!

The history of fly-fishing dates back to nearly 2000 years many cultures around the world have adopted the numerous fly-fishing styles. In recent years, it has become a very popular sport and is being practiced all over the world.
The basics of fly-fishing are simple enough to be learned within a few hours, with the assistance of a guide. Mastering the advanced techniques of the sport is a different ball game altogether and takes many years of dedicated effort. These factors hold the interest of anglers for a lifetime.
Fly-fishing is versatile enough to be adapted to a range of fishing conditions. It does not matter whether you are fishing for trout in a mountain stream in Europe or North America, or even casting a fly for bonefish in the Caribbean. The sport is so flexible that it has become very popular all around the world.
Early records of fly-fishing show that this type of fishing was carried on by the Macedonian anglers. They used six-foot rods and six-foot lines attached to artificial flies comprising of a hook decorated with insect wings and red wool. Very little was written about fly-fishing over the years, but in 1496, The Treatise of Fishing with an Angle was published. Later, in 1653 Isaac Walton wrote ‘The Complete Angler’ a book that contained many chapters on fly-fishing. All the information in these books points out to the fact that fly-fishing was a well – known fishing sport in England and Scotland. Numerous fly-fishing clubs came up in the 1800s in England and this served to popularize the sport greatly.
The shallow waterways of chalk streams of South England were suitable for dry fly-fishing, due to the growth of weeds just below the water level. North England and Scotland also saw the growth of wet fly-fishing. The anglers in South England were in favor of dry fly-fishing and considered wet fly-fishing a poor distortion of their sport. Even today, the English continue to undertake fly-fishing in the chalk streams, but access to the streams is mostly through private property.
American anglers from the Catskill Mountains in New York began to experiment with the dry-fly designs in the late 1800s. They began to design artificial flies to imitate the insects that trout feed on. Some of the anglers published their fishing adventures, which served to increase the interest in fly-fishing, even more. The American anglers were more open to experimenting in wet-fly fishing, compared to the English.
Interest in fly-fishing has continued to grow in USA and Canada. After the Second World War, fiberglass fly rods were manufactured along with synthetic leaders and line. The sport thus became affordable for people interested in fly-fishing. Dry flies are used for inland fishing in rivers and streams. Coastal fishing is carried on in bays and mostly uses wet flies. Bass anglers have also adapted fly-fishing.
The locations in the southern hemisphere and the Caribbean are popular destinations for saltwater fly-fishing. Anglers travel long distances to fish for tarpon and bonefish. Belize in South America offers both, saltwater and freshwater fly-fishing.
The basic equipment needed to start fly-fishing is becoming very affordable due to the technical improvements in the field. The popularity of the sport is growing around the world. There are plenty of opportunities and the choice of locations for fly-fishing is limitless.
