Salt Water Fish Tank Setup For Beginners

Saltwater fish tanks have their own unique qualities and demands. But, for the reef aquarium lover, it’s well worth the effort.

You’ll get many hours of enjoyment without hassle if you get your salt water fish tank setup correctly. If you miss a few steps, you’re sure to have problems. They may not show up right way, but your fish will suffer in the long run. So please, be patient and follow all the steps in order.

Before You Begin

Do your research before starting your salt water fish tank setup. If you haven’t yet purchased your system, you find many choices available. Don’t hesitate to research and ask questions as you’re making your choices. Each set requires different parts and equipment, but most specialized aquarium stores are more than happy to help you get started.

What basic equipment do you need? You’ll need filters, pumps, heaters, lights, test kits, and sea salt mixtures, and substrate material (maybe something like coral). There’s other optional equipment, but these are the basics.

Once you’ve chosen your system, you’re ready to begin the setup. First you’ll need to clean and level the tank. Then you can begin to arrange your background making sure to leave room for the necessary system pieces that must go into the tank.

Starting the Saltwater Fish Tank Setup and Testing

Once your tank is set, level, and the background is installed, you’re ready to test your new system. Follow directions for your specific saltwater tank precisely. This may take some time, but it’s worth it. Test your system before you put it into your tank. Once that’s done, you can go on to the next step of your salt water fish tank setup.

If you have not already put in your saltwater solution now is a good time to do this. Once your solution is in, turn your tank on, and let it run for around 24 hours. During this test run, you can make changes to the water, if necessary. Just make sure everything is working correctly with no leaks.

Saltwater Aquascaping

Turn off any equipment that may be running. Put aside equipment that may get in the way. You have to siphon out half the water in the tank and save it. After removing some water, arrange your rocks and decorations how you want them. Once you like your design, add the water back into your tank to the proper level.

Next, turn on the system and let it run. Let your tank cycle. After the cycling is complete – and never before – you can add your fish. Make sure to do routine tests and add water as needed.

Second Tank

After you have your first salt water fish tank setup, why you should look into another tank? Well, one thing that is important when adding a lot of different saltwater fish is to have a quarantine tank to observe each fish before they are put in with others.

It’s important to keep you new fish alone for a while to make sure they’re not carrying any diseases. The last thing you want to do is put a new fish who’s unhealthy in with your thriving fish. Once introduced to the tank, disease spread quickly. It’s better to be safe than to lose all your saltwater fish.

Nano Aquarium Question?

I’m thinking of getting a 20 gallon salt water Nano tank. How much live sand, and live rock will I need. Also what kind of equipment will I need to keep this tank up and running.

I know all about cycling the tank before fish and all that good stuff.

Also, I don’t want to over stock, so what kind of marine life should I have? Hermit crabs, star fish, golby’s, clowns??

Are you keeping fish only or corals or both???
A good rule if keeping corals or both would be 2 – 4 inches of live sand and at least 1lbs live rock per gal.
Do some research on the fish that you want because some eat corals or hermits or snails…
1 Gobie and 2 clowns are good with all inverts and you would be fine in a 20gal.
About 20 small hermits and 20 assorted snails would be an excelent start for a cleaner crew.
This starfish would be good, I know it says up to 5″ but mine has been in my reef tank for over a year and is only a little bigger than a silver dollar.

http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=578

With the live rock and live sand you will need a couple of powerheads to create a good strong current, good lights for the coral and a small HOB protien skimmer.
A test kit for amonia, nitrite and nitrate to start.
A Hydrometer to test the salinaty.
In a small tank you should keep the water topped up all of the time because a small amount of evaporation = a large salinaty change.
Good luck and welcome to saltwater.

Salt Water Fish Aquarium – 3 Great Fish Care Tips

1. Food requirements of fish
No matter what kind of fish you have the main thing that you should know is how to feed them and give them the same food as they would live on when they are in their natural habitat. Such foods are available in any of the fish shops wither as frozen foods or in the form of flakes or tablets. You would have to add some vitamins to the food as some of the nutrients in the food are lost when the food is frozen or processed.

Fish, like humans get fed up of the same food everyday and need a change sometimes. So keep a variety of foods available and give them a change sometimes. Before you buy the fish make sure that you can get the food that they eat or else you will have a constant problem of procuring the right kind of food for your fish. Do not over feed the fish as this will create debris to collect in the tank. Fish should be only fed as much as they can consume in 2 or 3 minutes, not more. Watch and see how much they can eat and do not put more than that every time. New aquarium owners tend to over feed their fish. Once they have eaten remove all the excess food from the tank. This way you can maintain a clean tank.

2. Keep water conditions consistent always
To maintain your fish in a comfortable environment make sure that you keep the water conditions consistent like the temperature the salinity levels and the P. H. also. You should test the water everyday and make sure that you correct any changes that you see. The filter should be cleaned regularly and the water should not get cloudy.

To keep your fish happy in their new environment you should try and make this very like their natural habitat in the ocean. Get corals, plants and sponges that the fish have been surrounded by in the ocean and this will make them more at home in the aquarium. You can reduce the stress level of the fish by making their environment in the aquarium as natural as possible.

3. Do not overcrowd the tank
Never overcrowd an aquarium as this makes the fish quite uncomfortable. The natural habitat rule suggests one small fish for every ten gallons of water, but also bear in mind that what is a small fish now, may not be so small a little later. So before putting too many fish into the aquarium get to know what the grown up fish size will be and shop accordingly for your fish.

Pier Fishing
Pier Fishing

Virginia Pier Fishing – Recreation for the Entire Family

Virginia is home to a wide variety of saltwater fishing, including excellent pier fishing. Visiting a fishing pier is something anglers of all ages are likely to enjoy. Pier fishing is easy to do, often requires no licenses or permits and allows anglers of all ages, sexes and skill levels to fish or just enjoy a day of fresh air.

Depending on the season and location, fishermen may catch trout, croakers, spot, pigfish, sheepshead, sea bass, tautog, pompano, white perch, bluefish, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, cobia, spadefish, small sharks, red drum, black drum or other fish on Virginia fishing piers.

Spring can be a good time to visit some of the Virginia piers. Early season fishing can include runs of croaker, striped bass, bluefish or even drum fish. Summer fishing is more consistent, with catches varying depending on the environment of the pier. Bayside pier catches will be dominated by panfish such as croakers, spot, trout and perch, while ocean piers see some of the exotic catches such as Spanish and king mackerel, cobia, spadefish, pompano, sharks and other species.

Perhaps the most popular season to fish from Virginia’s piers includes the timespan from mid August day thru October. This is when anglers from all over the state flock to their favorite pier for the runs of fish. Most anglers by far come to catch Norfolk spot, known simply as “spot”. The small but delicious panfish arrive in large schools, to the delight of anglers from 4 to 104 years of age. Spot are easy to catch and tend to bite regardless of weather, tides or time of day. Anglers use a light rod, small hooks and morsels of baits that include bloodworms, artificial bloodworm baits, squid, shrimp, clams or crabs. While most anglers target spot, others will specialize in other species during the late summer and early fall runs. Fishermen at the pier ends may set specialized rigs for sharks or cobia, while other specialists might go after for tautog, sea bass, sheepshead or pompano.

Several Virginia saltwater fishing piers are easy to find and are suitable for first time visitors.

The Virginia Beach Fishing Pier is located right on the beach at 15th Street & the Oceanfront in Virginia Beach Virginia. The Virginia Beach Fishing Pier is a very popular and productive fishing spot. Anglers of all ages, sexes and skill levels congregate to enjoy a fun day on the pier. The pier is located on the boardwalk in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The Seagull Pier is a good local pier to fish from. It lies on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and extends into the bay. Trout, croakers, spot, bluefish, spanish mackerel, small sharks and even black drum are caught from the pier. Fishing can be productive and continues at night, when bait congregates under the lights, which attracts predators to the pier.

The Ocean View Fishing Pier offers anglers excellent fishing. The 1690′ long by 16′ wide pier features a 48′ wide T section at it’s end and extends into the Chesapeake Bay between the Chesapeake Bay bridge Tunnel and the Hampton Roads Tunnel.

The Saxis Fishing Pier on Virginia’s Eastern shore is an excellent local pier. The pier extends 200 feet into Saxis Harbor and terminates with a 100-foot t-head. The pier is handicapped accessible and ADA compliant. The pier is lit and is open 24 hours a day. Anglers visiting the Saxis Fishing Pier catch croakers, spot, white perch, trout, striped bass, bluefish, flounder and other Chesapeake Bay fish. Bait is available locally including peeler crab or soft crab baits. There is no fee to use the Saxis Fishing Pier although a valid saltwater fishing license is required.

Before visiting any saltwater fishing pier in Virginia, it is a good idea to contact the Virginia Marine Resources Commission or local tackle shops for fishing regulations.

Fly Fishing on River Allan

The Allan Water is controlled by the Allan Water Angling Improvement Association, you can buy permits by the day from the Dunblane post office or join the waiting list for the association. The waiting list to join is a about a year but this venue is members only on a saturday.

We fished the upper pools on beat 1. The pools are up near braco just before the hotel. We only used Fly Fishing as our method although you can spin for Salmon and Trout

Salmon Fishing

Equipment – Single Handed AirFlow, SLS Fly Rod.

Location

There is no need for wading at this location as the river is not a large river. You can fish from the Far bank with ease. However this water really needs to have a lot of rain before it fishes well. The banks are clean and well maintained and the water quality is excellent

Flies – Stoat Tail and Pot Belly Pig.

We fished for a number of hours, without much luck and decided to change fly to a pot belly pig, within half an hour I had managed to land a 6lb Grilse. It took me over half and hour to land the fish. (We returned the fish safely to the river) I can see now why the Pot Belly Pig is such a popular fly.

Trout Fishing

Equipment – 6/7 9ft 6 Trout Fly Rod with Floating Line

Flies – Dry Fly and Wet Flies (the day we fished just about anything was catching)

The Fishing

We found this river to teaming with lots of small brown trout about 6inch long which must be viewed as an encouraging site, in fact we managed to catch around 20 (all of which were safely returned to the water)

We found We had Great Success with Wet Flies and Small Size 16 Dry Flies. We generally had the dry fly on the top dropper and the wet on the point.

Overall

A nice clean venue, ideal for in-experienced Fly Fishing, Easy Access and Depending on the weather a good chance of a salmon. This is a great place to learn how to fish on a river.

On the things to note about this venue is the fact that they actually stock the river with brown trout to supplement the natural fish stocks. I did notice large amounts of small brown trout about 1 – 2 inches in size, which is a real positive as it means the the natural fish are spawning and this can only result in making the venue and even better trout fishing mark.

A guy took his blonde girlfriend on a fishing trip. They rent all the equipment: the reels, the rods, the wading suits, the rowboat, the car, and even a cabin in the woods. They spend a fortune.

The first day they go fishing, but they don’t catch anything. The same thing happens on the second day, and on the third day. It goes on like this until finally, on the last day of their vacation, the guy catches a fish.

As they’re driving home, they’re really depressed. The guy turns to his girlfriend and says, “Do you realize that this one lousy fish we caught cost us fifteen hundred dollars?”

The girlfriend says, “Wow! It’s a good thing we didnt catch any more!”

What To Prepare For A Fishing Trip

Fishing can be a relaxing way to spend your weekends. It has been proven that fishing is one of the all-time treasured experiences of thousands of American families. However, any sport has its dangerous side and fishing is no exemption.

Majority of fishing equipment have sharp tools such as metal hooks which may lead to accidents when the fishing environment unexpectedly changes for the worse. Storms, hurricanes, wild currents, and other mishaps, could spoil your fishing trip.

If you are planning to go on a fishing expedition with family or friends, here is a list of urgent situations and what preparations you need to face each scenario.

1.Weather – Before packing up your bags and traveling to you fishing spot, consult or be aware of the weather conditions for the day and the following days. Whether you are fishing on shores or in a boat, you should be cautious of the conditions such as flash floods, storm movements and darkening of the skies. When signals such as extreme lightning strikes, you should head to dry land immediately.

Having a sun-drenched day is not really an appropriate fishing day. You should be aware that spending many hours with exposure to the sun could damage your skin. Be prepared by bringing sun block to avoid sunburns. You should be aware of heat sickness symptoms such as nausea, breathing difficulty, light-headedness, and unable to concentrate on tasks. Prepare a supply of water or liquid beverages to keep hydrated.

2.Sharp fishing equipments – Since fishing includes many sharp tools, you should always be prepared to treat injuries by packing disinfectants such as medicated lotion or spray and hydrogen peroxide. If an incident leads the skin to bleed, you would need bandages, cotton or paper towel. Bring your own first aid kit.

3.Tangles – One of the most common fishing hindrances is wherein your line is caught in anything surrounding your fishing spot such as trees, logs, etc. Try to get your line or fishing rod out of the tangle immediately to avoid the problem that could lead into a major accident. You could either snap off the branches of the tree or carefully and slowly remove your line away from where it is tangled.

4.Bait – When you run out of bait, it could spoil your while fishing trip. Avoid this by splitting up the rest of the bait into halves, quarters or thirds. The worm, even if divided, could still move, so the divided worms could still lure your target fish.

Be prepared to face any scenario to keep your fishing adventure as relaxed as possible. With all these in mind, you could enjoy your fishing trip safely and successfully.

Choosing fly fishing rods

Choosing fly fishing rods

Fly fishing is a traditional method of fishing that was popularly applied for fishing trout and salmon. Today though, it is employed in fishing for almost any variety of fish. Fly fishing is gaining popularity and people employ this method for almost any kind of fish. Fly fishing is used in both fresh water and seas as well. The techniques used in fly fishing of course vary depending on the location. For example, seas, lakes and rivers have differing conditions and hence the techniques used will vary as well. There is a lot of Fly Fishing Equipment On Sale and one gets a lot of choice in the type of equipment. Depending on your budget and needs, you can choose the necessary equipment for your fly fishing trip.

When shopping for fly fishing rods, there are several parameters that one has to keep on mind and work on to choose the rod that suits them best. The primary parameter would be the material out of which the fly fishing rods are made. The two most commonly used materials are Fibreglass and graphite. Fibreglass is the more sturdy material, It is some what flexible and is the best all purpose multi-weather fly fishing rods. Beginners would be well advised to go for fibreglass fly fishing rods. Graphite fly fishing rods are much more expensive. They are also quite light weighted and hence are preferred by advanced fly fishers who want a more accurate cast.

The action of fly fishing rods is another important criterion. The action is determined by the flexibility of the rod with varying levels of flexibility having their own advantages. Expert fly fishers would prefer slow action fly fishing rods when they are in the hunt for small light fish. These fly fishing equipment, are quite light and offer a lot of bend through the length of the rod which is useful when one needs higher accuracy. The extreme levels of bend though make it a little hard for beginners to handle. Medium action fly fishing rods are most popular especially among the newbies. These rods bend only towards the later half at the free end and are perfect for both long and short distance casts. Expert fishers who want a good fight with the big fishes will go for the fast action fly fishing equipment. These rods offer very little bend which is available only at the tip of the rod and hence are great when you need to cast through quite a distance and reel in quite big fish too. Beginners will not be able to handle these types of rods with ease due to the decrease in accuracy.

The final major parameter that ones looks at when buying fly fishing rods is the length of the rods themselves. A new fly fisher should be looking for a rod that is comfortable enough to control yet provide sufficient casting distance. Choose between short, medium or long rods depending on the action required with small rods having lesser action and longer rods being perfect for open sea long distance casting.

About the Author

Hunter, the author of many articles regarding fishing, hunting and fly fishing is always keen to give away her advise on various adventure sports and fly fishing rods

How much should I spend on beginning fly fishing equipment?

I’m a 17 year old girl and I want to learn how to fly fish. How much should I spend on equipment (a pole, string, leads, flies, etc.) Would it be better to buy one of those inexpensive, complete kits that come with everything needed to start?

The best answer I know of, and one you’re probably already gotten, is to buy the best you can afford, and buy it from someone who knows what they are selling and can provide you with a properly matched rod and line and a decent reel. If you try to go cheap you may get an outfit that makes learning to cast a royal pain which will quickly destroy your desire to learn this wonderful sport. You will also need to think a bit about what types of fish you plan to pursue. A good quality 5 wt rod with a floating, weight forward line is a good start.

Fly fishing is like any hobby – you can spend a fortune on gadgets. Here again, you should think about forming a relationship of trust with someone who knows the equipment. I became a lifelong fan of one company because they talked me out of buying things I really didn’t need. OK, now to answer your question: for the rod, reel and line you’ll spend somewhere around $150. Cabelas (I’m a real fan because everything I bought is excellent and Michael, the fly shop manager, seems very knowledgable.) or Bass Pro both have decent oufits within that range. Try to avoid getting sucked into buying the orange line that comes with some of the rigs. Most decent rods come with a rod sock and you should get a rod tube as soon as possible. I make mine out of PVC pipe with foam captured in the bottom and top. That case is heavy but it floats and is darn near indestructable. Fly rods are fragile, so never travel without having it in the rod sock and in a case. A scratch can weaken the rod enough that it will break someday – no doubt when you least want it to.

OK, so now you have the rod, reel and line, now what. Get a hemostat-like device such as the ones made by Dr. Slick with oversize finger holes. Next you need to think about leaders and tippets. Since you’re just starting out you can buy a few tapered leaders ranging between 2X and 5X and some monofilament tippet spools in the same sizes. Finally, buy an assortment of popping bugs and a plastic box with divided compartments. These things will add about $50 to your investment. Unless someone’s going to take you on a trip to fish for something exotic, stop here and learn to use this stuff before buying a vest and the rest of the stuff. Also, invest in a good book such as Fly Fishing for Dummies, it’s excellent so don’t be put off by the title. At this point you need to learn about tippets and hook sizes and how all this stuff relates. If you can find a good casting instructor take a couple of lessons – it will save a lot of frustration. If you can find a Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF) casting instructor, they’re worth every penny. It’s kind of like learning to drive, don’t let a friend teach you. There is a club here in St. Louis called the Ozark Fly Fishers (do a Google search and you’ll find their website) and they can help you a lot, but you’ll need to ask for help. They’re not arrogant or whatever, they just assume folks know how to cast unless you speak up. Several of their instructors are FFF certified and I’ve taken lessons from them on a number of occassions. It’s amazing what the placement of your hand or how you turn your wrist can affect the cast and that’s exactly what makes lessons so valuable.

One of the easiest ways to practice, and one that’s a lot of fun, is to go out to Busch Wildlife and rent a rowboat which costs about $5.30 for the day. Go in the afternoon, at least during the summer, and plan to get on the water about 5:00 or so. Until the sun starts to go down, most fish are too deep to reach easily with a fly rod. Find a shady spot with some deep water nearby and play with the popping bugs. You’ll catch lots of panfish and learn both casting and accuracy while having fun. Resist the temptation to go fish for trout right off the bat. They’re a pain in the tail and you can flail the water for the entire day and catch nothing. One last thing, crush the barbs on your hooks. That way you can release the fish without damaging it and, when you catch yourself, the hook comes out easier. The absence of the barb makes very little difference in landing the fish. Wear a broadbrimmed hat to deflect the flies that seem to want to nest in your head and some sort of glasses that cover your eyes very well, for the same reason.

Long-winded answer to your simple question. One of the wonderful things about this sport is that, generally speaking, folks are delighted to help others become as fascinated by the sport as they are. That’s my goal for you. Have fun, and stop fishing for a while when you get frustrated. Casting takes time to learn, but it’s very much worth while to learn correctly in the beginning.

Good luck.

Tips for Buying Fly Fishing Rod

Fly fishing is a tricky way of catching fish. Before you visit a store to buy a fly rod, take these things into consideration. These are very important factors in fly fishing, so read carefully. The first thing to keep in mind is the kind of fish you will be catching. In general, the heavier the fish, the heavier the equipment will be needed.

The second factor you need to think about is the body of water you plan to fish. For example, is it going to be a babbling brook, and a roaring river? The motion of the water is not the only thing to pay attention to. You also need to consider the clearness of the water, the wind and the distance you will need to cast to catch your fish.

Finally, you must take into account the action of the fly fishing rods. They are made to flex; and they do it in different ways. They can be slow or fast. It is crucial to get the feel of the rod. If you are a beginner, a rod somewhere in the medium range would be the best option.

Experienced anglers, who have been enjoying fishing for many years, typically have quite a few different fly rods. Each rod is designed to do a particular job. The size of the different rods is represented by a number. The larger the number the larger the rod. It also represents the line to be cast. For instance, a 3-weight rod can cast a 3-weight line.

Always keep in mind that the rod is just a continuation of your arm. It is the line that gets cast not the rod. You also need to take into account the weight of the fly. If the fly is too heavy the line will sag and will not cast as desired.

An additional feature to care about when buying a rod is the flexibility or the action of the rod. If you get a fast action rod, expect that only about 30% of the rod will bend. On the other hand, a slow action rod will bend about 90%. A medium action will bend about 60%. The slow action rod bends much easier than a fast action rod. However, the fast action rod casts farther than a slow action rod.

Today’s best fly rods are made of the graphite. The introduction of the graphite enables the production of the faster action rods. These rods are not heavy and use more of the tip to project the fly line. The rod will do all the work for you if the line is cast properly. It is one of the biggest benefits of the fast action rod – the fisherman casting does less work.

In the end. Never buy a rod that you have not cast first.

Fly fishing is one of the popular sports in some countries, but i never saw anyone use the fishing fly in China. Do you know where to buy the fishing equipments? i found a website: http://www.versacorp.cn/ Could anybody explain more to me?

Well it is totally different way to cast the fly than any other type of fishing. It is some what complicated to explain unless you are familiar with the terms and the equipment. My best advice is to search online bookstores for how to books on flyfishing and go from there.

Deep Sea Fishing Primary Sport

A Great Adventure Deep Sea Fishing

Many people, like fishing as a hobby and they try to expand their knowledge understanding new methods of fishing. One such highly rated fishing style is deep sea fishing. Earlier folk would restrict themselves to only river or Lake Fishing not venturing too much into the ocean. But nowadays with the advancement of technology and highly equipped tools people like to explore the sea and go deep sea fishing. Deep sea fishing is thrilling and adventuresome ; however , remember it’s also really dangerous. Many who have not taken sound advice and proper care when they went into the sea, most have lost their lives and some others who are fortunate to get back from the grasp of death, have a gloomy story to take note of. Deep into the ocean you are not playing with little fish, but there are giant sharks and whales, perilous and frightening. It’s not a simple task to catch a massive fish ; they have enormous energy to pull you along into the water if you are incapable of handling it.
when you go deep sea fishing, go along with a professional crew of fishermen and carry all safety and necessary equipments along, stock some water and food for the journey. Together with food for the crew, make sure you also get some succulent food for the fish ; you can easily lure the fish with delicious food. And it’s no point catching them ; on the contrary they can be perilous and lethal.
Make almost all of the experience by learning more about angling and luring your fish. When you do not get any catch for hours it can be depressing and exhausting. But patience is the key to fishing. Try different baits and lure the fish with different food. Canned food is a nice option and fresh food can also work best. Ask for recommendation and help when you need it. Deep sea fishing is much more fun when you’re back home safe and have enjoyed your fishing experience.

Please help!!!! Need Opinions on Saltwater Equipment. Plz HELP!!!?

I need to know which reel you guys thing would be better for Tarpon Cobia and Kingfish in the gulf and Atlantic. Either a 3/0 Penn Senator Special, a Shimano Triton, or a Shimano Speed Master. I have lots of fishing experience and techniques. I usually put my weight out and use a clip with live bait. I can not get my 6/0 Penn Senator out far enough because its a shark reel and very hefty so I want to downsize. So tell me what you think.

Main things it needs to do are cast far, catch big, and needs to hold up

The 3/0 is an excellent reel. I’ve four with topless tiburon frame and a accurate handles.
They are heavy compared to the Shimano and the gear ratio is lower.
By using reelX I find that casting is improved, you can also use speedX on all your reels

As per the Shimano speedmaster it’s a pretty good reel and no levelwind.
I’ve a friend who uses the Shimano speedmaster with great success, aside from a broken handle their is not much else that has gone wrong.
You don’t want a levelwind period.

I wouldn’t choose the Shimano triton.
But the rest are okay for all your needs even Tarpon.
Might look into newell reels without breaking the bank.

Salt Water Fishing Lures – 5 Great Options For Salt Fishers

Salt water fishing lures are available in as many choices as there are for fresh water angling and maybe even more. What should be considered is that if you are fishing in salt water, the catch will be of a bigger and weightier variety and the equipment you need will also be larger as compared to the fresh water fishing gear. Marlins, sailfish and trophy fish are much larger and will need bigger lures.

1. Salt water fishing lures
You will need lures that will compatible to the different species of fish and even amongst the same species you would need different lures. Distinctive fishing lures for salt water could be utilized for different species of fish. Even within the same species you would need different lures for varying conditions like deep water, shallow water and according to the many seasons the feeding would have to be changed. You would also have to change the lure you are using according to the time of day and visibility factors.

2. The uses and variety of jigs
Like the lures you get a variety of jigs in different shapes and sizes and colors for salt water fishing. Salt water jigs are for fishing close to the bottom and for this reason they have to be heavier to that they can withstand the extreme tides and currents.

3. The types and uses of plugs
Lures that also work as plugs for salt water fishing are one of the chief items in the box of fishing equipment. These plugs are usually black or any other dark color so that they resemble the bait very closely. These plugs are made to resemble a smaller bait fish that is injured and dragged from side to side in such an effective way, like an injured bait fish that the larger fish are attracted to it and strike this plug forcefully.

4. Tins used to bait salt water fish
Tins are distinctive to lures that are used for salt water fishing, and are totally a very reflective lure in tin. These once again are made to look like a bait fish that is moving swiftly through the water in a very similar way to a bait fish, with the same sheen and reflection being caught in the water. There are some white feathers attached to the tail end so that it gives the movement of the tail a more authentic look and also adds more movement in the water around that area.

5. Lures that are made of plastic
Lures made of plastic could be in almost any color and could have two or three hooks. These could be made in one bit or could have many joints which would depend on the lure’s length and the kind of purpose it is going to be used for. Very realistic to look at, the lures that are made of plastic resemble baitfish and squid that are to be found in coastal regions, very closely. These plastic lures are used mostly for angling in inlets on the coast, along side the bays and when the baitfish are moving from deep to shallow waters or the other way around.
Just like the lures for freshwater, the lures used for salt water are also used in a similar manner to skip along the top layers of the water on the surface and lure the fish to the top. It is best to use these lures in calm waters either for angling from a boat or from the beach.

How much money will a beginner FOWLR salt water aquarium cost?

I am 15, and Its really hard for me to make money. I mostly rely on allowance which is only about 75 dollars a month. I have the tank, and the stand already, but I want to buy all new equipment, and of course some fish, and live rock just for decorative purposes and I love the whole ecosystem thing about it how the fish can eat it and you find little critters on it. Even though its not required im pretty sure I would like to purchess a protein skimmer. The tank is about 55 gallons.

well…

do you really NEED new equipment?
you could do half and half live and base rock. getting some high quality LR will mean more life on the rocks, but is also more exspensive.

to start with you could do about 30 total pound of rock (15 each) and that’ll give you enough for a few small fish to start with.

with all that and a few small cheapish fish a set up will cost like 300ish if you don’t bet new equipment

if you have any further questions, please feel free to email me. i love answering SW questions… ; )

Secrets Of Virginia Saltwater Fishing

Virginia saltwater fishing becomes more than just a pastime when May brings the spring weather back – it becomes a way of life. In the month of May, the anglers at and around Chesapeake bay begin to rejoice and congregate as the large game fish specimens begin to filter into the largest estuary in North America in numbers that seem like an impossibility. Most of the saltwater fishing anglers are looking to the south, where red and black drum are returning from winters in southern waters. However, there are still a number of individuals anxiously awaiting the migration of striped bass from the north to infuse the Bay with their great numbers.

Having just completed their yearly spawning rituals in the upper reaches of the Bay tributaries, this species return in mass quantities and sizes reaching 40 inches that make anglers giddy with anticipation. Of course, there are severe restrictions through the first six weeks of Virginia fishing for striped bass that make the early season difficult to comply with, considering the itchy feeling anglers get at the thought of reeling in a huge catch. From May 1st through the 15th, there is a Virginia fishing mandate on the stripers, limiting the catch to one fish per person with a minimum length of 32 inches. From the 16th through the 15th of June, the limit per person is two fish between 18 and 28 inches or one of this size accompanied by one fish at least 32 inches in length.

Fishing in Virginia in the early season is particularly good in the Smith Point area, located at the uppermost portion of Virginia’s western shore. This is a peninsula referred to as the Northern Neck, which is perfectly situated for the interception of the infuse of fish returning from the Potomac and Rappahannock rivers and Maryland’s bay waters after their spawning is completed. Interestingly enough, because of the setup of licenses for Virginia saltwater fishing and Maryland fishing, when the waters are cooler and striper don’t return to the southern waters as soon as normally expected, anglers from Virginia are allowed to fish the waters of Maryland, which are already quite productive in terms of quantity of striped bass available.

Trolling tends to be the most popular and productive method of saltwater fishing for striped bass, since they are moving rapidly and not holding in one place for long. Menhaden are the preferred bait, as well, and if fresh fish cannot be found, use lures that imitate these, including bucktails and spoons in similar sizes. Preferred coloring is white or chartreuse. You might first try the main shipping channel down the bay, where the water is warmer, trolling along the edges at staggered depths between the surface and twenty feet, though this is simply a suggestion and not a guarantee of productive Virginia saltwater fishing for stripers.

Does an angler fish like strong current?

I have an angler in a 40 gal tank with lots of live rocks. i had 2 powerheads at 400gal/hr each on top for surface motion. I just purchased an other powerhead at 1200gal/hr to put on top and moved both 400′s to the middle of the tank.
the angler used to hang out at the top of the tank in a cave and now moved to the side of the tank right behind the powerhead. should i cut the powerheads off?

angler fish do not like current
they hunt by sitting still

i have a leaf fish, he hunts in the same way as an angler and he is very current shy, preferring to sit in the algae bed and wait for prey

i would put the curent up high so he can sit down low and still be oxygenated

good luck very cool fish btw

The Case Against Raw Frozen Pet Foods

For some 25 years I have alerted the public to the dangers of exclusively feeding heat processed foods. Companion animal feeding has progressed – actually digressed – from table scraps and real foods the family could spare to today’s “100 % complete” processed foods in primarily kibble form, with some canned and semi-moist also available. The foods appear to be scientific and improved, but they’re far worse for the animals. Not only is nutrient value diminished by heat, but a spectrum of toxins is created. Additionally, the singular feeding of processed food has led to the spurious “100% complete and balanced” claim that is both logically and scientifically flawed.

Entrepreneurs have seized upon this information to create a spate of raw frozen (RF) foods to capture a market niche and to fill the demand from consumers wanting a raw alternative to standard heat processed canned, semi-moist and dried pet foods. This market trend, as with most others, may begin with some truth (raw food is the best food) but gets distorted, if not perverted, once economic opportunity enters the picture. This paper will examine the rationale of these products, their economics and dangers. A more intelligent and healthy alternative will be proposed.

Dangers

1. Weakened Pets And Highly Virulent Organisms – A raw state and the presence of moisture in food provide the perfect environment for the growth of pathogenic organisms. Although prey foods in the wild often putrefy and are teeming with microorganisms, carnivores in the wild are immunologically adapted to these organisms and even benefit from the probiotic effects of some. On the other hand, domestic pets eating sterilized heat processed foods are immunologically compromised and are threatened by mutated and highly virulent pathogenic strains created by modern circumstances and antibiotic resistance. Freezing at appropriate temperatures puts pathogens in a state of arrest but does not eliminate them. Although all foods contain some pathogens, unless they are sterilized (requiring high heat or other measures that greatly diminish the nutritional value and create toxins), it is the load of these pathogens that must be of concern to consumers. RF foods are a potential reservoir and vector of large numbers of pathogens.

2. Producers With Only Kitchen Technology – Because of the minimal technology required to produce a RF pet food, essentially anyone regardless of credentials or expertise can bring a product to market. All one needs to do is grind and mix ingredients in a kitchen, package and put in a freezer. There are no controls over the conditions in the kitchen, the quality of the ingredients or the method of freezing. All these factors can dramatically influence the nutritional value and pathogenic and toxic content of the food. But being in a frozen state hides these potential dangers and therefore poses a threat to both pets and the humans who handle the foods. John Doe can make a food under unknown conditions and with unknown ingredients, label, package, freeze and deliver to consumers or stores without one single control monitoring or impeding the process. Regulators may eventually examine the label if they happen to see it in a store (they will never see it if shipped directly to consumers) and object to some terminology or the like; but, all John needs to do is change the label and all will be well. The product could contain every manner of ingredient, be laced with virulent pathogens, and receive the aegis of regulators … and into the market it goes.

3. Raw Frozen Foods Are Not “100% Complete” – Many RF foods make (or imply) the same spurious 100% complete claim as heat processed foods and thus carry with them the same health dangers. Feeding any food exclusively, let alone a nondescript packaged food containing who-knows-what from who-knows what manufacturing environment, is a bad choice if health and safety are of concern. (See The Truth About Pet Foods by Dr. Wysong).

4. Problems Are Ignored By Producers – RF food pathogens include not only bacteria, but fungi, viruses and parasites. Toxins include those from molds (mycotoxins), bacteria and those created by oxidation. In our study of RF products in the stream of commerce, not one producer addressed these concerns with any technological know-how that we could discern, and most did not even acknowledge the problems potentially lurking in their foods.

5. Freezing Masks Inedibles – Raw meat and organ tissue continues to use ATP (source of energy) until it is exhausted and the tissue enters a state of rigor. Endogenous enzymatic activity within the tissue continues to digest the muscle tissue (proteolysis), softening it until it becomes tender and develops the typical palatable taste. This process is retarded by cold. The freezing of properly aged meat presents few problems, however, any residual ATP present in the tissue during freezing will contract the muscle upon thawing resulting in a more unpalatable product. Mixed RF foods would hide this problem.

6. Free Radical Problems Masked – Essential fatty acids and other health enhancing lipids are critical in the diet. Once foods are ground, mixed, exposed to air, light and pro-oxidants such as heme iron and other metals found in plant and animal tissue, the contained lipids are oxidized to chain reaction producing free-radicals, causing rancidity and oxidant toxins. Freezing at appropriately low temperatures slows this process but does not stop it. The temperature in conventional freezers used for RF foods is not insurance against such oxidation. Because the frozen state masks olfactory detection of rancidity, foods that would be otherwise rejected end up being consumed. The free-radical pathology potential can then work its chronic degenerative disease and immune weakening effects.

7. Freezer Burn Indicates A More Serious Problem – Air reaching the meat surface is the cause for the freezer burns that result in the typical grayish-brown leathery spots. Frozen water on the surface or just beneath it sublimates (from solid state directly to vapor) into the air, causing moisture to be lost from the meat over time resulting in discoloration and a dry, leathery texture. Proper packaging helps maintain quality and prevent freezer burn, however most packaging is permeable to air. The prevalence of freezer burn in RF products speaks to the fact that the product is being oxidized and with that creating free radical toxins to lay the seeds for various degenerative diseases.

8. Display Packaging Causes Free Radicals – Light, as well as air, can promote free radical production. Retail display packaging that is clear or light permeable permits light to catalyze the free radical (disease promoting) process.

9. Frozen Products Are Not Inert To Degradation – In frozen storage there is deterioration in organoleptic quality – meat texture, fat turning granular and crumbly, and discoloration. Microbial enzymes also remain active, especially lipases that break down fats increasing their susceptibility to oxidation.

10. Frozen Foods Can Lead To Acidemia – Tissue degradation and oxidation under high heat freezing (above 29° F), which occurs along the supply chain with most RF products, also leads to acidification. Increasing acid consumption can contribute to acidemia that lies at the base of virtually every chronic degenerative disease plaguing modern pets. (See reference below.)

11. Temperature And Time Are Critical – Ice nucleation, as opposed to ice crystallization, is the primary vector in producing a stable, tasty, frozen product. Freezing is a technically complex process based on the optimum combination of temperature and time, amongst other factors. In the wrong processor’s hands, slips in proper freezing care can lead to a microbiologically unstable product and/or a sensory inferior one. Rapid freezing leads to nucleation, thereby preventing undesirable large ice crystals from forming throughout the product. With rapid freezing the molecules don’t have time to form positions in the characteristic six-sided snowflake, so nucleation overrides crystallization. On the other hand, slow freezing (the usual RF situation) creates large ice crystals, which on thawing causes cellular damage to the meat. This in turn causes meat to “drip” – lose juiciness – and form a perfect liquid medium for bacterial growth.

12. The High Risk In Thawing – Thawing is another critical phase in the freezing process as it involves a change from crystal ice to melted water, which upon reabsorption results in microbial reactivation. Pathogenic bacteria inherently contaminate raw meat, fish, and poultry and will begin to multiply again when the temperature reaches just 29.3º F – which is below freezing! Thus a product that may appear subjectively frozen could be a veritable incubator of pathogens. When consumers attempt to thaw RF foods, dangers dramatically increase. The surface temperature rises long before the interior is sufficiently thawed to serve. For example, it takes about 15 hours for the middle of a 22-pound turkey to get to 32º F. In the interim the surface temperature rises to 53º F. In this amount of time there would be about 4 multiplications

of spoilage bacteria as well as non-detectable multiplications of pathogens. The FDA Model Food Code (1999) recommends that food be thawed in the refrigerator or in flowing water. Thawing RF food in the refrigerator can be inefficient and time consuming, in addition to occupying refrigeration space required for other food items. Most of all, this lengthy procedure can lead to the risk of cross-contamination when the drip from the raw meat comes in contact with ready-to-eat food stored in the refrigerator. In the alternative, consumers usually put the RF food out at room temperature, creating the perfect circumstance for pathogen proliferation.

13. Undetected Freeze-Thaw Cycles – The transit time of RF food from the processor (or John Doe’s kitchen) to the distributor, to the stores and eventually to the consumer is very critical. Although freezer delivery trucks might putatively maintain stable product temperatures, lack of thermocouples fitted in the truck to show temperature readings, and/or inadequate TTIs (time-temperature indicators) can lead to microbiologically infested products without any visible spoilage signs. If the refrigeration in any part of the supply chain fails temporarily and then goes back to frozen (freeze-thaw-freeze), the consumer would never know of this abuse and danger.

14. Supply Chain Time Dangers – Time is the enemy of nutrition and safety. The longer the time between the farmer’s field and the belly, the greater the potential problems. RF foods create the illusion that time is not a factor. Because the frozen state masks toxins and odors, the consumer can be given the impression of value and freshness when, in fact, they may be getting age and toxicity.

15. Microwave Thawing Dangers – If RF foods are thawed in the microwave as a matter of convenience, the value of the food is greatly compromised. Microwaves can virtually boil the liquid phase within cells and electromagnetically alter important food components rendering them not only useless nutritionally, but toxic as well.

16. Mycotoxins Go Undetected – RF foods, particularly those that are a mix of cooked grains (which of course negates the claim for “rawness”) and vegetables, can contain mycotoxins. None of the producers surveyed addressed this problem.

17. Frozen Product Mixtures Make No Health Sense – In an attempt to cover every conceivable base and not miss any opportunity for profit, many RF producers mix every manner of ingredient. For example, watermelon, grains, persimmons, liver, lamb, etc. Not only would creatures in the wild never eat such a mixed gruel at one sitting, such combinations in the fresh state can cause serious digestive stress. Many of the exotic RF ingredients do not keep well in the fresh frozen state (for example, freeze watermelon alone and see what happens, let alone combining it with meat). Also, the combination of fruit sugars with proteins can potentially create toxins such as glycation end products, acrylamides (particularly in those “RF” foods containing cooked carbohydrates) and reaction products of proteins with plant tannins, phenols and flavonoids. Producers “throwing the book” at RF formulations in desperate attempts to capture

market share make evident their motives and their scientific, health and technical naiveté.

18. Parasites Are Ignored – A wide range of parasites can be found within RF foods. Although there is technology in terms of freezing and natural ingredients that can be used to thwart this problem, none of the producers examined employed any of it that we could detect.

Packaging

The best packaging for any food, particularly RF foods, is light- and oxygen-barrier and modified atmosphere flushed. In the absence of this, oxidation proceeds rendering the lipids toxic. None of the producers surveyed employed these technologies that we could detect. Even if they did, the other problems and dangers listed above would remain.

Environmental

We live in an age of pollution and energy diminishment. RF foods require a tremendous amount of refrigeration and equipment all along the supply path. Freezing is energy inefficient and consumes valuable energy resources. Since RF foods are 70% water (at least) there are huge resources wasted in freezing and transporting the tons of this food-contained water through the supply chain. Along with all the equipment, trucking, freezing and frozen water handling inefficiency comes the pollution that parallels such industry.

Quality

In order to make their foods anywhere near affordable, RF producers must search the ingredient market for items that can carry the name of real food but may in fact be only a hollow shell of the real thing. Inferior meat and organ ingredients, heat processed grains and vegetable riffraff (for example “broccoli” on a label may really be broccoli stems – like eating a branch from an apple tree rather than the apple) are used because they are of low cost. That is not to say the marketing brochures and labels do not make it appear as though the brand is not a true gourmet meal. If one reviews the various labels it becomes clear that the race is on to see who can put the fanciest and most exotic ingredients on labels … as if that is the road to pet health. (It is not.) In a brief ingredient survey this is what we found:

Every manner of “pureed” vegetable

Organic beef, rabbit, chicken, turkey, goat, lamb, duck, pork

Organic honey

Organic papaya, persimmons, blueberries, oranges, apples, pears

Organic yogurt

Organic alfalfa, millet, quinoa and barley sprouts

Wheat grass

Nettles

Bok choy

Cultured kefir

Cod liver oil

Capsicum

Watermelon

The reader is challenged to go to the store and total up the cost of such ingredients. Some of the organic ingredients can cost over $15 per pound. But the RF diets containing them can retail for as little as $2-4 per pound. Take away margins for distributors and retail stores and the producer is selling them wholesale for close to a dollar per pound. Now on top of the cost of ingredients is the production, advertising, packaging, freezing and in some cases a sales force making six figures. Something most certainly does not add up. The only thing that can be missing is true ingredient quality. But how can the label say these expensive ingredients are in the food? All the producer needs to do is put in pinches of the expensive ingredients just to say they are there.

The only economic hope for a RF producer is to create the perception of “value added.” They simply could not put the costly ingredients in the food to any degree and make a profit for themselves and all the middlemen up and down the chain. The price they would have to charge would be ridiculous. In effect, in order to be successful, producers must become accomplished at propaganda, not health and nutrition.

Consumers interested in cutting through to the truth do themselves and their pets a service by going to the grocery store with a list of the ingredients ostensibly in a RF diet. Although some RF diets in the lower price range appear to not be attempting to mislead, consumers should do the math comparing the exotic ingredients in

RF pet foods to the prices for the real thing in the store and decide for themselves whether either value or honesty resides in RF products.

Economics

Consumers are under the mistaken assumption that a nondescript package mix of ingredients with an officious label and from a producer posing as a nutritional authority (none of the producers we examined had people at the helm with expertise or credentials) would be the best choice. Little do they realize that they could avoid essentially all of the caveats listed above by simply going to the grocer and buying fresh meats and produce. Pets do not require every nutrient in existence at every meal, as is the impression given by the 100% complete RF producers, and for that matter the rest of the pet food industry. Why would people choose to pay a producer to mix inferior ingredients, package them, label them, freeze them, transport them, advertise them and pay the margin for the producer, the distributor, sales force and the retailer when they can avoid all that cost and put their money into real quality fresh foods? Some people are so convinced that RF manufacturers perform some sort of magic that they will pay to have such foods put in special insulated containers packed with dry ice and overnight delivered! This is particularly ridiculous when one considers that no real convenience – and certainly no health or nutritional value – is added in the process. The consumer still has to go to the store and buy something.

At the grocer a person can buy fresh, raw, untainted meats and produce appropriate for pet carnivores at less than $1 per pound. Slightly out-of-date meats, sale items, trimmings or other still excellent products that cannot be put in the meat case can be even less. True, if you are to purchase the ingredients listed above in perfect human grade organic form (as many RF producers boast) the cost could be far greater. But at least you would know what you are getting. RF foods can cost as much as $7 per pound with an average of about $3-4 per pound (not including shipping to the customer’s door) and most of that cost is going into freezing, transportation and profits through a whole chain of participants. Here is a case where a consumer gets to pay more (a whole lot more) and get less (a whole lot less). Isn’t marketing a wonderful thing?

A Better Alternative

Fresh foods fed in variety are without question the perfect form of nutrition. Appropriately designed supplements to help reduce the risk of food-borne pathogens and oxidation, and to help balance high meat meals and provide a spectrum of vegetable-based nutrients and nutraceuticals can also be of great benefit. Anything less than this is a compromise. The next best alternative is packaged dried raw foods that have incorporated in them food technology to impede pathogens, parasites and oxidation. The low water activity of these products is a great inhibitor of pathogens and the low level of moisture make storage and shipping efficient and environmentally friendly. Good quality table scraps and properly designed dried extruded and canned foods can be mixed into the diet rotation with benefit as well.

Consumers must learn the principles of fresh foods fed in variety and to trust in nature. Every pet owner desires the best for a beloved pet, and is correct in thinking food is an essential element in achieving that goal. But it is incorrect to believe that another person can do more for their pet’s health than they can do themselves. All that is required is a little understanding and use of common sense.

[ NOTE: To that end, the Wysong Institute makes available a free e-Health Letter, a free one-hour CD entitled, “The Thinking Person’s Master Key To Health,” healthy product alternatives designed intelligently with health as the number one objective, and books and recipes for anyone wanting to take control of their own and their family’s and pet’s health.

Fly Fishing Equipment For Beginners

Best Fly Fishing Poles For Beginners

I love to go fishing. There is just something fun about pulling in some animal out of the water and having dinner that night. Fishing is a very popular sport/hobby that a lot of people enjoy. There are several places you can fish, in the river, lakes or the ocean. In this article I will be talking about fresh water fishing in the rivers and streams.

I remember several years ago we went up into the mountains and wanted to try fishing. We had never been fishing in a fresh water stream before and so we were just used to fishing in the lakes and ponds around our house. Being that we had never fishing in a river like this before we just took our regular fishing poles and bought a few flies so we might could catch some trout.

I do not think we even got a bite when we were fishing. We had a lot going against us. We were using the wrong poles for one and another reason was we were using line that was too big. If you have ever been trout fishing you will know that you need SMALL test line and the proper fishing pole.

The proper fishing pole and line will make all the difference in the world. If we were more experienced we may could have caught a trout with our poles and line but it is best to just use the proper equipment when fishing.

So you may be wondering what are some good fly fishing poles. You may not know what to look for in a fly fishing pole. Picking out any pole can be a hard thing because there are just so many poles to chose from. If you walk into a nice sized fishing supply and tackle shop you will know what I mean.

There are a couple of poles I will recommend. Buying a good pole does matter as the old saying goes “You get what you pay for”.

One pole I recommend is the Sage Xi2. Sage spent 3, yes 3 years to make their Sage fly fishing rods even better. The technology that is in this rod is amazing. They really put a lot of high tech build quality features in these poles. They use 100% graphite hoop fibers in most of the rod but in the delicate areas such as the tip sections they very carefully put in a few glass fibers for extra strength. I had no idea any company would put in so much effort in a pole to make sure it will work for you for years to come.

Another pole I recommend is the Orvis Frequent Flyer. This is the perfect traveler rod as it is only 8 foot 6 inches long. You may be wondering how that makes it a good travel rod as that is quite long. It is 7 sections and breaks down into a length of around 2 ft or so. You can carry it in your backpack. This rod has awesome reviews, people really like it!

The right rod can make or break your fishing trip. Be sure and pick the right one!

Shimano Rods – The Choice of Champions

Why should I use Shimano Rods?

A fishing rod is perhaps the most important part of recreational fishing. Every angler has a very personal relationship with his or her fishing rod. A good fishing rod can help you to enjoy your entire fishing experience and a bad one can ruin it completely. Anyone who has experienced the frustration of a snagged reel or a broken rod can testify to the importance of having a good quality fishing rod.

There are multitudes of fishing rods available in the market, so which one should you choose? Well, from personal experience, I would strongly recommend Shimano rods. These are some of the best fishing rods available in the market today. You will find that most champion anglers agree with me on this. Shimano rods are widely used in professional fishing competitions and have been endorsed by some of the biggest names in the sport of angling.

Why are Shimano rods so popular?

Well, to put it simply, Shimano has always stood for quality. It produces high quality sports equipment that is regularly used in championship cycling and fishing. This multinational company started off with very humble origins in the year 1921 in Osaka, Japan. Even then, the company’s dedication to quality was evident in the fact that it offered to replace any defective products with two new products, free of cost. Over the years, Shimano has steadily gown and is now one of the most reputed names in sports equipment manufacturing.

Shimano fishing products have regularly been presented with many awards for their innovative design and durability. Some of the awards won by Shimano rods include the 2005, 2006 and 2007 IGFA World Record Awards for Saltwater Rods, the 2006 Best in Show-Saltwater Rod ICAST Award for the Shimano Tiralejo, and 2008 the Gray’s Best Award to the Trevala F Jigging Rod. Shimano rods are regularly used and endorsed by some of the biggest names in professional sport fishing. In fact, award winning fishing rods such as the Shimano Tiralejo and the Shimano Trevala set the standard for all fishing rods in their genre of fishing.

Shimano Tiralejo

The Tiralejo series of fishing rods are the most popular rods for surf fishing. These lightweight but powerful Shimano rods provide the surf fishing enthusiast with unbelievable distance and accuracy. These rods were designed by the famous rod builder Ian Miller for Shimano. Their World Casting Championships pedigree stands testimonial to the effectiveness of these rods in the world of championship surf fishing.

Shimano Trevala

Shimano Trevala rods are the only choice when it comes to professional butterfly jigging. These Shimano are constructed of high modulus Shimano TC4 graphite that results in light weight with superior strength and amazing sensitivity. Shimano Trevala rods also feature Fuji reel seats and Fuji Concept Alconite guides. These amazing Shimano rods have cemented Shimano’s place as the foremost manufacturer of butterfly jigging equipment.

You do not need to be a championship fisherman to buy Shimano rods. Shimano rods also come in many affordable variants that provide high end results. What constitutes good equipment on a bike?

What is a derailleur? Is all-aluminum OK or should the fork be something else? I see a lot of Shimano shifting mechanisms, even on low-end bikes. Are these good, or is there something else? What’s a good material for a saddle? I have also seen gel covers.

J

That’s a very loong question.

For one, I’m thinking that you’re thinking on a road bike, right? I’m more into mountain biking, but I think that there are some things that extrapolate.

I think that there are aluminium and carbon fiber forks. The carbon fiber will be lighter, and they’ll likely absorb part of the vibration from the pavement. They will also be more expensive, though.

The deraileur is the part or component that shifts (moves) the chain on the different cogs in the rear wheel.

There are several brands that makes components for a bike. Shimano is one of the big brands. But it offers several levels of components. It’s like say, Audi, in which it has the A3, the A4, A6 and A8. I don’t know on road how the levels are, but I think that Dura Ace is the top of the line, most expensive one. And there are some real cheap, so you’ll likely see Shimano stuff on bikes costing anywhere between $200 and 10,000 bucks.

Also, Campagnolo offers their own series of components, and I think that very good ones.

For mountain bikes, SRAM also offers several levels of components pretty good, but I think they’re only starting on road biking.

About saddles. Some saddles comes with gel, some with lots of gel, and some with just a little. I think that those with little padding are usually better.

Also, saddle width is important. I can tell you wich saddles I feel confortable, but actually it depends on the shape of our bum, so what works for me probably won’t work for you. You can go to a bike shop and ask to get your butt measured. Usually don’t ask it when the cashier’s full of people. There is this cushion where you sit, and your sit bones leave some marking, and they measure that and recomend a saddle based on it.

Whatever saddle you get, you will need some time getting used to.

The gel covers are not a good idea. They might seem, but they’re just heavy, and, when you sit on the cover, your, er, bum will push the gel and it will push upwards on, well, er, you know where.

Good luck!

Fishing Line
Fishing Line

All About Fishing Line

Ok, you’ve been asked to design a great fishing line. Here are just a few of the goals you have to satisfy:

1. It should be super strong, but not so strong that it can’t break. Better to break your line than your fishing rod. It has to stretch somewhat, but not too much.

2. It should glide through your guides during casting and rewinding with minimal friction, cast far and accurately, then come back in with little effort. But it also has to allow the drag mechanism to work effectively, to put resistance on a fighting fish. It has to hold a knot well, too.

3. It should be light enough to cast far, but have no ‘memory’. Memory is the feature of line that, for example, causes line to remain curled from being on the spool, kinked after being knotted.

4. It should be immune to cold, heat, sunlight, saltwater and slime.

And, oh by the way, all those (and many more) criteria come before even discussing that it has to be easy to make in large quantities and sell for only a few dollars. If a spool of fishing line could sell for $1,000 engineers would have a lot easier time designing it!

When working on the first goal, line designers have to carefully balance just when the line should snap. You don’t want to let that good one get away, but you don’t want to break a fishing rod when that big guy leaps up and runs away. As part of that effort, fishing line comes in different ‘test weights’. That is, it may be 4 lb, 10 lb, 12 lb, 20 lb and so on.

To satisfy the second goal, fishing line makers have to be sure that the line is abrasion resistant. It has to stand up well to scraping over rocks, the edge of the boat, and so forth.

To create a good knot, a fishing line has to have some inherent friction, though. Otherwise, the knot would slip right out the first time there was the slightest tug on it. Line also has to be somewhat flexible, lest the angler be forced to spend ten minutes trying to tie something that feels like wire. Imagine what a surgeon would have to go through tying stitches with bad surgical line, for example.

Creating line that has little memory is a whole combination of science and art all its own. Anyone has noticed, for example, that a string wound around a stick has no memory. Unwind it and it hangs limply. Plastic or nylon, on the other hand, may well be curled when it comes off the stick, especially if it was curled on in the sun and unwound after it cooled in the shade. Once kinked it stays kinked.

One aspect of creating line with no memory is to try different materials, manufactured in various ways. Materials scientists spend years experimenting to get just the right balance.

At the same time, those same scientists are looking for materials that don’t wear out from exposure to UV light, extreme temperature changes, being dipped in water that contains salt and other chemicals. They may devise a monofilament or a braid to add geometry to help that material do its job.

So, next time you’re asked to design fishing line, just say “No, thanks” and be grateful there are so many good ones on the market to choose from already.

What’s the name of this fuzzy worm toy attached to a fishing line?

I used to have one, but I don’t remember the name of it. Its like a worm, but its really fuzzy and has googly eyes. It’s attached to a fishing line and the line is wrapped around a little piece of cardboard that you put in your pocket. When you move the wire through your fingers, it looks like the toy is moving on its own.

What are these called??

I just saw these at the mall but I couldn’t remember either. Here are some on ebay:

The Best Fly Reel For the Money

Fly reels can get expensive.  Do you need to spend that much to get a high quality reel?  A fly reel is the third most important item to a standard fly fishing set-up, with fly fishing rod and fly line being number one and two.  Let’s look at the aspects that you do not want to leave out when trying to save money on a fly fishing reel as well as some that you can get by without, so you can have the best fly rod for the money.

Before you buy a fly fishing reel, it is important to know a few things so that you can be confident you are buying a fly reel that will fit the fly rod you are buying, the fish you are after, and the technique you are to use.  A fly reel must match these aspects before it can even be considered as the best fly rod for the money.

Size of Reel Needed

A fly reel’s size is determined by the line weight (wt) you will be using.  For example, dry fly fishing for trout will typically be done with a 4wt or 5wt rod and line.  Therefore you will want to use a 4wt or 5wt reel.  If a fly fisherman were to use a 4wt fly reel just because it is inexpensive, with an 8wt line, he would find out pretty fast that there is not enough space on a 4wt reel to hold 8wt line.  Nor would the drag system be strong enough to effectively control a fish that an 8wt is made for such as a steelhead or salmon.
For a fly fishing set up to feel right the rod and reel must have a good balance.  Having a balanced fly fishing setup will help the rod load better resulting in a much further and smoother cast.  A fly fishing setup with a reel too small or big for the rod not only feels weird but also looks weird.

Size of Fish

It is important to purchase a reel that will be able to handle the fish you are after.  With big fish, the reel becomes more of a necessity than with smaller fish.  For example, a 16 inch trout is going to put on a good fight for a 4wt fly fishing setup, but mostly a fly angler will be able to land the fish by pulling on the line and not rely on the reel at all.  If a fly angler was to be using his 10wt fly rod and reel to hook into a King Salmon, then the reel will get a lot of use as simply pulling the line in will not cut it.  With these bigger fish that are prone to run a long ways, a quality, smooth drag system is essential.  For this reason, it is possible to get all the reel you need cheaply to outfit a 4 or 6wt rod, but as you go up in weight, price should and will follow as the reel is depended on a lot more.

Technique

There are a couple fly fishing techniques that will help determine the best fly reel for the money.  Of course there are the standard setups that are pretty straight forward; just buy a reel that matches the line and rod weight and your set up should be pretty well balanced.  If a fly fisherman was to buy a spey rod (an advanced two handed fly rod made for long casts), then he will want buy a reel that is a couple sizes bigger than the line he is fishing.  This is because spey line is quite a bit longer than traditional fly fishing lines due to the ability to make longer cast.  Spey rods also need bigger reels because the rods or typically long, 13-14 feet, and it takes a little more weight to balance one out.

So, What Is the Best Fly Reel for the Money?

The best fly reel for the money is one that covers all the basics mentioned above, but also fits into your budget.  A good rule of thumb is to buy the best fly fishing reel that you can afford.  The price ranges a lot, but any model made by Sage will more than get the job done at a fair price.  A person can spend as little as $99, or as much as $700.  All are good reels, but the change in quality definitely makes a difference as you go up in price.  Do not fear though, if this is your first fly reel purchase, Sage’s lower end reels will feel as smooth as baby skin if you only have cheap reels to compare it too.

Conclusion

While a fly reel will not see near as much use as the fly rod  or line for lightweight setups, a quality reel is essential when it is needed, especially  when using heavier equipment and fighting bigger fish or big fish on light line.  Click here: OnlineFlyFishingGuide.com to check  out the complete line of Sage Reels, as well as all other equipment that is  needed to be a successful fly fisherman. Fishing Hobby – 6 Tips For First Time Fishers

Once you have decided that you want to take up fishing as one of your hobbies you need to learn the basics of the sport. You could learn by trial and error, which is the most difficult way to learn or you could latch on to an experienced angler or hire the services of an instructor to teach you the basics.

1. Buy seasickness medication

If you plan to go out to sea with some experienced anglers (it is not advisable to go out on your own if you are just setting out in this sport) you should get yourself some sea sickness medication to prevent yourself fro ruining your fishing experience. Bonnie is a sea sickness medication that works well with everyone and is easily available at the local drug store. There is nothing to worry about as even the most seasoned fishermen take sea sickness medication. The best way is to take one pill before you sleep and one when you wake in the morning then another when you board the boat.

2. Buy a reference book

Get yourself some good fishing reference books. Do not go for the fancy expensive ones. There are a lot of fishing books at the local boo store and sifting through the pages will give you a fairly good idea of which ones are best for you. There will be some things that you will not really understand in the beginning but you should read it any way. These are really about safety and legalities of fishing.

3. Go to a party

Book yourself onto a fishing party boat. Fishing party boats provide anglers with everything they need for their fishing trip. These fishing party boats carry from 10 to 15 anglers and provide them with equipment such as rods, line and bait. The crew assists the anglers with advice and fishing techniques and when you get your first catch they will also help you get the catch off the hook. If you are an amateur the mates of the boat will soon spot you and linger close to assist you whenever you need it and you will not even have to ask. Party bats will cost you anywhere from $25 to $70 for a day and you can keep the fish you catch. This is a very good way for beginners to the sport of fishing.

4. Pick your pier

If you have already acquired some fishing skills with your rod and line then the best option for you is to get yourself a pier to fish from. Many coastal places have a pay-to-fish pier and these are good spots to hone your skills as an amateur angler. You will find many anglers on the pier ready to assist you in case you get into trouble.

5. Party or pier

Alternate between party boats and piers as many times as you can, this will help you get the experience you require to lure the kind of fish you are looking for and you get to learn from the other experience angers too. This is the best way to learn all about this exciting sport.

6. The reel deal

You are probably using the conventional reel that most beginners are used to up till now. It is time you experimented with different types of reel. Ask around on the pier and party boats and also at the local sport store about the many types of fishing reel that you could use to improve your fishing skills.

What you need to do is to understand the mechanics of the reel and associated equipment. There is a lot to learn like casting, tying knots, hooking bait and a lot more. Most importantly you need to know how to choose a fishing location. Experienced anglers know exactly where the fish are biting and how to follow a particular fish they are after. Learning the habitats and feeding habits of a fish is important and can only come with experienced. So learn something every chance you get and you will soon be one of the expert anglers lurking along the water ways out there.

I’m a beginner when it comes to fishing and I’m wondering if there is some sort of fishing encyclopedia out there. A book or website that would tell anglers things like, “Watch out for the teeth on a spanish mackerel when removing your hook” or what to do if you happen to catch a shark.

Don’t think this link will give ya’ the extreme info., that your wantin’ ie., sharp teeth on a’ Mackeral ;) but, it is a good one for startin’ out. Hope it helps ya’;)… < ' ( (( > <

Fishing Equipment Wholesalers

Fishing is about skill and patience, not equipment

There’s any thing similar with spending weekend fishing with your colleague or relatives.  The scene is calm and quiet. No body really needs to make any talking because muteness is important when it comes to fishing. All you have to do is sit on your center console, throw a line, lay back and relax while hold on for a fish to nip. Of course for a fish to really nip, you require to find yourself a lot of quality fishing equipment.
the problem is, where do you obviously find this equipment? Well the obvious answer is sports shops but actually, I really don’t think that it’s quite worth wasting that much for. Let’s realize some of facts here real quick. You’re absolutely not going fishing for a daily routine and the next time you will be able to go might be a few of months away. With that being said I’d say that in a year, an average people will be able to go out fishing approximately 5 or 6 times at the most. That’s not quite a big number of time right? Therefore spending a lot is just not sensible.
So where do you get a few inexpensive quality fishing equipments for these occasional outings? I present to you, wholesale fishing! Yes, the wholesale business has considerated the world of fishing. You can now get top class fishing tools that will last for years in places that offer wholesale fishing equipments. It doesn抰 actually make a enormous difference where you buy your fishing material because either way, you have to be patient and also have the capability to stay quiet and know good fishing spots.
And since the difference between these tools are not much apart, then why waste more on the Fishing Stuff found at sports shops right? Go for wholesale fishing equipments, after all, fishing is more on what you do than on what you have.

Bass Fishing Reports – 3 Tips To Understand Their True Meaning

Many people are interested in bass fishing and have an avid interest in the sport. They are either into it as a recreation or as a once in a while activity, but what ever the reason be, if you want to improve your technique, it is helpful to go through bass fishing reports which will give you a step by step guide.

1. How does one get to know of bass fishing reports
Bass fishing reports are often by word of mouth only. Experienced anglers who come from different areas and bait different varieties of fish, or from those who are professionally skilled or even new fisherman who have had some exciting experiences to narrate; all this adds up to give an unusual but knowledgeable report on the ways of improving your fishing skills. Sometimes newspapers or bulletins carry articles on fishing skills and a new product that will assist in improving your catch, if related to others will help in improving their skills. So if there is even a little bit of innovation in the method of angling it is good to spread the word as it will help someone somewhere.

2. Various kinds of bass fishing reports
Weather conditions in various locations could also be a tip that will give the angler an idea of how to handle bass fishing in certain parts where the weather differs from what they have been used to.

Those looking for bass fishing reports could search on the internet for websites that give information on bass fishing, or in magazines and newsletters. If you find it more convenient you could even get these reports from stores that cater to bass fishing equipment. Because bass fishing reports are personal experiences of anglers, you would not be able to find such advice or information on the net or anywhere else. These are real life events that those who have experienced are relating to others. So publications and the internet may give you an insight into what you may face, but some of the incidents may be unique and not what is expected of in bass fishing.

3. More geared up to face tournaments with reports
You will be better equipped to take part in a tournament with all the tips that you will get from bass fishing reports. So if there is a bass fishing tournament that is coming up shortly either for couples or as a family event, or maybe for a single participant, be sure to participate in it and spend some wonderful time sharing it with your loved ones.

Always make it a point to find time to get the bass fishing reports so that you will be up to date on all that happens during this sport and know how to deal with such events in case you come face to face with a situation like that. At the same time make sure that you share your own experiences with others too. So now that you are armed with all the knowledge of bass fishing you can be an ace angler yourself.

Fishing Adventures In Canada

If you are the sort of person who enjoys a more extreme and thrilling fishing trip, then Canada is definitely the place for you. In Canada there are rivers, lakes, and streams in abundance. You can find both fresh and saltwater fishing areas all within close proximity of each other. And the fish themselves are plentiful in this great part of North America. And as a result there are many types of fishing trips to choose from, so you are sure to find one or more that you love.

As for bodies of water, there are two main types of fishing in Canada – salt water and lake water fishing. Both are different from one other, and information concerning either is available in most any of the plentiful fishing equipment shops. You can also buy everything in the fishing shops that you will need for your trip.

Salmon fishing is particularly popular in Canada. And as there are many “versions” of salmon to fish, you might experience some difficulty making a choice. Frequently, people base their trips simply and exclusively around salmon fishing.

Fishing in the salty waters of Canada’s three coasts is immensely popular. There are scores of large fish to be caught off the shores, increasingly as the waters reach deeper levels. Tuna and shark are two of the species that are highly sought.

The older sport of fly fishing is also very common in Canada. Fly fishing is performed by using a lure, also known as a fly. If this is of interest to you, check out some of the fly fishing packages available.

Ice fishing is another form of fishing that offers a lot of fun while in Canada. There is quite a bit of equipment that you need for such trips, however, but your guide – if you hire one – will be more than happy to help you gather what you require. While there, you can rent an ice hut to serve as shelter from the elements. Ice fishing truly has to be experienced to gain a good appreciation of its nuances. And if you are an adventuresome fisherman, you will no doubt want to try it yourself – at least once.

Regardless of the form of fishing you enjoy in Canada, it is wise to enlist the help of a guide. By hiring a guide you will be able to gain the most benefits from your fishing trip. It is also wise to pack emergency equipment such as your cell phone, first aid kit, and extra clothing to keep warm.

You will have a great time fishing in Canada!

Is there a good fishing shop on Bosoton?

I will go from Japan to Boston on October. I love Bassfishing, so I want to look around good shop of fishing. Does anyone know good fishing shop which is selling lure of Blackbass?
And if you know, please introduce good restrant and other info.
Thanks.

Actually, my boyfriend loves bass fishing, and he has a hard time finding a shop in Boston. Outside of the city there are a chain of stores called Dicks Sporting Goods, which are HUGE shops with all sorts of sporting equipment, and they have the best section around for fishing lures, etc. He actually tends to get most of his stuff online from www.basspro.com or when we go to Florida a few times a year, he picks things up there. So, unfortuntately you might not want to wait for Boston for a shop like that. . . . .As far as restaurants go, make sure to check out the North End, for authentic Boston italian dining (Sabatinos is my favorite in that area. . .) or go to the theater district and eat at Davios. On the waterfront, make sure to get some seafood at Anthony’s on Pier Four.

There is a certain amount of equipment needed such as a heater and filter to keep your fish healthy and happy. With the proper equipment your tank will become a healthy water filled paradise for your tropical fish. Most tropical fish are imported in small boxes which can be quite a shock to their systems. By providing an environment much like their natural environment your fish will thrive and become an active part of your everyday life.

Getting the right type of heater is an important part of setting up your fish tank, unless of course you are just putting gold fish in it. Nearly all tropical fish require a water temperature between 70 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit. They will die if they are kept in water cooler then that for any length of time.

You need to be aware that there are different sized heaters for different sized tanks, make sure you get one that will work for the fish tank you decide to go with. If you get one that’s too small or does not have a high enough voltage rating for your tank it will not be able to adequately heat the amount of water needed. On the flip side if your fish tank heater is to big for your tank you stand a good chance of boiling your fish. If you are unsure of what size heater to get ask some one who works at your local fish store.

The second major piece of equipment you will need is a filter of some sort. A filter keeps the water circulating and helps filter out the ammonia and nitrates that build up in a fish tank. This is particularly true in new tanks which haven’t had a chance to get established with the beneficial bacteria that break down these natural by-products of fish waste. If too much ammonia and nitrate builds up your fish will have trouble breathing and could die. The beneficial bacteria actually build up in the filter system and break down these poisons as the water cycles through the filter.

If you do nothing else when it comes to equipping your new fish tank you need to have at the least a heater and filter. Without these two vital pieces of equipment you will be hard pressed to keep your fish tank warm enough and clean enough to successfully keep healthy happy fish.

Fishing in Kansas city?

Hi,

I am new to fishing and i really want to get into it. I already bought my equipment for fishing except a boat. I am looking for a great place to fish in kansas city can someone help me? I am looking to catch carp, cappies, bass and catfish. What kind of bait should I use? Also what is a great time to catch fish? It is ice cold outsider right now but I am eager to go fishing but I dont want to freeze for nothing. Is cold weather a good time to fish? I heard that if it is windy then fish wont bite that often? I dont have a boat is there a way I can catch alot of fish from the bank? Thanks for ur help.
Thanks for ur help guys. I really appreciate it .

hello, I am from Michigan and I have fished since I was about old enough to hold a fishing pole. I am 17 years old now, but I don’t fish as much as I did when I was younger. I have fished for large and small mouth bass, blue-gills, catfish, walleye, trout, pike, perch, and countless other species of fish and the best luck I have had is to grab a spade or more commonly know as a shovel to dig up some earth worms from the ground or to go buy minnows for the fish. Spinners are okay for most fish but the catfish, for example, won’t take anything but live bait because I read somewhere that there are some 10,000 taste buds in a catfish’s mouth. I would use a boat of any kind because most fish swim around in the middle of the lake or more towards the whether especially when it is hot outside. You can always rent a row boat and sit out on the lake for a little while because fishing is all about patience waiting for that next big catch.

Sea Pines Forest Preserve – Man and Nature In Perfect Harmony On Hilton Head Island

Sea Pines Forest Preserve is one of Hilton Head Island’s most exotic nature tours.  You can survey original Hilton Head Island habitat up close and personal from the comfort and convenience of your own car.

This is a driving tour as well as a walking tour, which makes it an attractive option for the very young and the very old.  That’s because you don’t have to leave the car to enjoy much of the scenery at Sea Pines Forest Preserve.  This is a boon for elderly persons who may have mobility issues or for families with  very small children,

Not only that, you may feel safer watching the alligators from the security of your automobile, if they tend to make you nervous.  However, when it comes to the T-Rex’s we make no guarantees :) .

You’ll find an island-park on a lake near the half-way-point of the Sea Pines Forest preserve, beautifully cultivated, with multiple walking bridges.  From these there is access to a picnic area on the island, which lies in a gorgeous setting.

After lunch you can stroll along the pier and try to spot some alligators. There are plenty of large turtles to satisfy the alligator appetite, but keep your children in close tow at all times.  Alligators can move surprisingly fast.  Birdlife and fish are abundant in and around the lake and the public is free to try their hand at fishing.

There are actually several other lakes near the center of the park, all easily accessible by Fish Island Trail.  This is a paved roadway which cuts through the Sea Pines Forest Preserve, from East to West.  Walkways allow access to the lush swamps and bogs, which surround the central sanctuary and lakes on all sides.

The ancient Indian Shell Ring is within easy walking distance of the picnic area, while Harbor Town and the Stoney-Baynard ruins are not far by car. Flora, wildflowers and wildlife, small birds and butterflies and dragonflies are everywhere along the way.  But you risk being carried off by a herd of mosquitoes if you forget your bug spray. Don’t leave home without it.

Good Reasons to Choose Shimano Fishing Rods

Searching for the right fishing rods for your needs can probably seem overwhelming at times. There are tons of elements you have to consider and lots of options on the market which can make narrowing down your choices seem impossible. Plus, the market is densely packed with competition. How are you going to even decide which possible models to look at more closely?

When it comes to fishing rods, one way to narrow the field is by focusing on certain manufacturers. One of the best names in fishing rods happens to be Shimano. Let’s look at some of the reasons why they are such a force to be reckoned with in the world of fishing.

History of Shimano

The Shimano Corporation was first founded back in 1921 in Sakai – a city located in the Osaka area of Japan. They have a long history of excellence and, in fact, in most of the world their name is the first one on the lips of fishers who are interested in the highest quality equipment possible. It makes sense that a company from Japan – a country known for doing a lot of fishing – would be the ones to create some of the best fishing rods on the market.

Of course, fishing rods are only part of what they do. The largest part of their business is in cycling where they are known for outstanding innovations that have led to some of the best cycles on the market and have earned them a reputation unparalleled by anyone else in the field. That’s because the company’s main focus has always been on precision engineering – a must for cycling and for creating the best fishing equipment possible.

Fishing Rods & Shimano

With their success over the last eight decades, Shimano has managed to expand by leaps and bounds. Today, they have headquarters around the world. In fact, it’s their Irvine, California headquarters which is responsible for most of the work on the fishing equipment. They currently employ more than 75 people who are dedicated to doing nothing except creating improvements to the current line of exceptional fishing rods. As a result they have produced some impressive technology, including High Efficiency Gearing.

Shimano Success in Fishing Rods

Don’t be surprised if Shimano isn’t a manufacturer you’ve come to know for fishing rods because the North American market actually represents only about one-fifth of their entire market in this industry. However, over 40% of their sales come from Europe, and they dominate the Asian markets, including China and Singapore, with their top-of-the-line fishing rods and other products.

Of course, the proof is in the money. In 2005, Shimano earned $1.4 billion in sales. About one-fourth of that total came from the sale of their fishing rods. Those numbers are steadily increasing as more of the world begins to embrace Shimano as the only name in fishing rods.

Purchasing Shimano Fishing Rods

If you have a hard time finding Shimano fishing rods, look for an online dealer, such as Sea Isle Tackle. They have a good supply of their equipment.
