is it hard to start and make money in an ebay business?

i love fishing and looking to make some side bucks doing what i love, selling fishing equipment. i am a full time student so unless its easy to start, i may wait until winter break to get going. give me some time to find wholesalers

It’s extremely difficult to make an income on eBay.

You won’t be the only person going to that wholesaler with the same idea. The wholesaler is going to offer you a price. The more you buy, the less each item is, but you need to spend thousands to get the best deal.

The seller with the better deal will be able to start his bids at a lower price than yours.

Used Fly Fishing Equipment
Used Fly Fishing Equipment

17 Ways to Use Fly Fishing Equipment Guaranteed to Land a Steelhead

The first thing you need to know before even getting out your fly fishing equipment is where the trout are feeding. There is no point casting where the fish are not. Trout feed on the stream surface, near the surface and in the stream’s midsection a relatively small percentage of the time. They consume 75% of their total diet at or close to the bottom of the stream. If you can’t see a fish breaking the surface once in a while or the water boiling near the surface it’s pretty much a sure bet they are feeding near the bottom.

1. When you estimate the fish are feeding near the bottom, add a splitshot to help get your fly to the bottom.

2. Use a nymph net to sift out the various sections of the stream to see what insects are in the area.

3. Match the appropriate fly to the area hatch to entice the trout to strike.

4. When gripping the fly casting rod for an overhead cast lock your wrist straight and keep your elbow at your side. Your elbow should always stay at the same height, without bouncing up and down.

5. Your cast should be perpendicular to your body and never from side to side.

6. The fly needs to land directly in front of you as lightly as possible.

7. If you suspect the trout are feeding on the surface, allow your fly to rest on the surface a couple seconds longer before retrieving it.

8. Don’t overdo the backcast with your fly fishing equipment– this will scare the fish when your line hits the water behind you.

9. Fish early in the morning when the wind is less active and the bugs are more active.

10. Avoid heavily fished areas where there is less activity disturbing the trout, and where the fish are more likely to be wild and prefer insects over pellets.

11. When your fly lands on the surface, use slightly jerky movements to simulate the movement of real insect.

12. You can also cast out and allow the fly to drift downstream so it looks natural to the fish.

13. When you feel a strike, respond immediately with your fly fishing equipment to set the hook firmly and quickly.

14. Cross the stream at the same angle with each cast but allow it to land 3 – 5 feet longer each time so you cover the entire pool.

15. Remove the slack in the line before you begin your cast.

16. If your false casting feels right, do not change your timing and delivery with the final forward cast.

17. Use the thumb on your rod hand in a quick forward move at the end of the cast to add more power.

Fly Fishing Waterway Access Points in Unfamiliar and Remote Areas…?

For anyone who has gone fly fishing in the amazing Rocky Mountains knows how frustrating it can be to FIND a place to get into the water from the roads.

I am working on Access Point (AP) maps for popular waterways beginning in the North Idaho region. I will also be accepting clients whom have needs/requests about specific stretches of water and will build him/her detailed and individual packages.

General packages may include: Marked AP’s, AP’s span, difficulty traversing AP, FISHABLE stretch of water reached by AP, any equipment needed or vehicles able to negotiate AP (ATV, 4×4, etc.), F&G regs, water speed, popularity and parking options for AP.

Client requested packages could also include GPS coordinates for waypoints, camping areas, entomology/flies used, water depth, foliage, pics of AP and any other special requests.

My question is: If this service and info was available for your use; would it be worth paying for and how valuable would you consider it being?

I think you’ve got an interesting concept here that could well be very valuable, although what the market will bear may take some time to discover.

How much it would be worth is hard to say. Would I be willing to pay for such a package? Possibly, if I felt the cost was reasonable, and the information was available for a water I wanted to fish. One suggestion I would have- For bigger, longer rivers, consider breaking it down into chunks, so people have the option of buying the information for the whole river, or just the section they intend to fish. No one likes paying for something they don’t need or won’t use.

Or rather than breaking it down by specific water, maybe do it by map section- based on USGS maps, etc.

Good luck with that, I think you might have a winner.

Why We Kayak Fish

    Why We Kayak Fish

By Capt. Pat Horrigan

When you think about fishing you realize that there are many forms of the sport. Sight fishing is by far the most challenging approach to be taken. In order to be successful in sight fishing, you must have a stealthy approach or you will do nothing more than spook your quarry. Wade fishing has its’ place for sure but it can be a long walk and as you tire, you are naturally noisier by default. Using a flats boat is very popular and always will be and kayak fishing may not be for everyone as it requires patience. To achieve the most in stealth a quality kayak makes the difference between a long walk and a very expensive flats boat. There are many different fishing kayaks on the market today and that’s great. I looked for a long time for the right kayak to sponsor the Kayak Fishing ClassicS national tournament series. The Freedom Hawk 12 by Freedom Hawk Kayaks packs everything a kayak fisherman needs into a very slick, quiet unit.  The biggest advantage yielding feature of the Freedom 12 is the easily deployable outriggers. This feature truly makes it the Stand -Up Kayak Fishing standard on the market. Why is that important? When seated low in a kayak it is difficult to sight fish. Great sunglasses like the Ocean Waves  Sunglasses really help however having the ability to stand on a mobile, stable platform is invaluable. The sunglasses are still a must have item and Ocean Waves Sunglasses are the best ,in my opinion.

So now you have a stealthy, stand- up fishing kayak to make the experience better and you can see thru the water like a hawk. That still doesn’t answer why we kayak fish. Before I do that, lets’ add another stealthy approach to the fastest growing water sport in North America. Fly Fishing! Talk about stealth. Fly fishing is so quiet and natural. Light Tackle fishing can be very stealthy as well if done correctly and both are popular ways to fish from a kayak. Albright Fishing Products is the maker of some very fine fly rods and conventional rods. To touch on their fly rods for a moment, we feel that they are the best fly rod on the market today for what we do. That is saying a great deal considering some of the other brands. Tom Brokaw once said “ if fishing is a religion, then fly fishing is high mass.” Fly fishing is a subject for another conversation. Now you are ready to sneak up on the fish. Simply put, Kayak Fishing is extremely challenging and incredibly beautiful. You are on the water surrounded by nature. The fish don’t even know you are there. You lay out a fly and a huge snook charges and takes. If you do that just once, the question will answer itself for you. Many kayak fishermen, and in that I include women of course, also enjoy wade fishing. There’s nothing like a good stretch after a good paddle to your favorite fishing spot. Lets’ talk about that for a minute;

Have you ever heard someone say ‘you have to think like a fish’? To me what that means is what am I doing that triggers a fishes strike or fear responses? I want the fish to strike or take my presentation so how do I trigger the strike response? Or what did I just do that spooked the fish or triggered its’ fear response? One huge factor often overlooked is Visual Quietness. Just what is that? Have you ever been in a swimming pool, underwater and looked up at someone walking around the pool? If not, try it sometime and it will make a believer out of you in what I am about to share with you. In order to better understand Visual Quietness you need to understand Visual Noise. Everything in nature is a blend of many things in nature surrounding it. Wait,..What? For example a bright color on a bird is muted by surrounding dull colors. There are very few birds of a solid, bright color and those that are have developed that for a specific reason in nature. If you look up at someone walking around the swimming pool wearing a bright white shirt you’ll realize just how much that stands out. Or a bright green shirt or black or any solid color just jumps out against the background. If you are in your kayak or doing some wade fishing and you are wearing solid colors, regardless of the color itself, you may as well just go home because every fish in casting distance can see you. Remember, the bigger the fish, the smarter or more experienced the fish is. I never wake up in the morning and say to myself, I think I will go out and catch a small fish today. We fish for big fish because they are more of a challenge and more fun to catch. So why make it harder on yourself. Wearing camouflage clothing that matches the background of where you are fishing makes a lot of sense to me. Let’s take it up a notch. Let’s wear camouflage clothing that matches the background the way a fish see it. Remember how that bright white shirt looked when you looked up form underwater in the pool? It was also distorted and wavy.  Here’s the notch; AQUA DESIGN has come up with a camouflage that mimics how the background looks to a fish. That is huge when you think about it.

When you put all of the gear together with a little practice, you have a very Visually Quiet, Stealthy, Stand-Up Kayak Fishing package. In my pursuit of putting together a World Class national kayak fishing tournament series, I searched many equipment manufactures to provide product and expertise for our fishermen. It quickly became evident who made the best gear and why they made it the way that they do. I then pursued those companies as series sponsors. The sponsors that you see involved in the Kayak Fishing ClassicS are not just sponsors. They are the best at what they do and the most qualified in the world to call themselves sponsors of the Kayak Fishing ClassicS. If you take the time to learn about these fantastic people and the products that they make you will walk away with more knowledge of how and why the game is played the way it is. The book is being written on kayak fishing and we want you to be a part of it. Please visit  us at http://www.KayakFishingClassicS.com to be a part of it.    FishGreen

When does ice fishing start in Minnesota?

I am writing a book, and part of the story involves an ice fishing trip in Minnesota, but I need to know if early to mid December is too early to ice fish. Living in Florida, I’m not that familiar with the fishing seasons up there. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I have seen fishable ice as early as end of Oct, or as late as mid Dec. Usually it is about the end of Nov when we start getting enough ice to walk on with nothing more than a bucket to sit on. It takes at least 4 inches to walk on. This last season I was out there with my shack in early Dec.

3 Fishing Equipment Tips To Make Your Fishing Expedition Successful

What is required while planning your next angling expedition is your fishing equipment. If you want to have a successful fishing trip and be all geared up for it, you will have to have all the right gear. The better and more suitable your angling gear is the more they assist you in getting the kind of fish you want to bait. Also you must try and have as much of the right gear as possible. Ensure that you have it all before you set out for your trip. So list out what you will need and make sure it is all there ahead of the expedition. The equipment that you will need depends on the kind of water you will be fishing in and also the type of fish that you expect to catch

1. The market has several brands of fishing tackle

Fishing reels are available in varying price ranges and several different brands also. You will have to go for the equipment that is suitable not only for your budget but also for the purpose of your fishing trip. If it is for commercial fishing you would need equipment that is of a higher and long lasting quality. This is because this equipment will be used more extensively and has to stand the wear and tear of the use. So if you have better quality equipment it will be economical in the long run as it will last you for a longer time. You should do some research on the various qualities available before you buy it.

2. An important part of fishing equipment is the rod

An important part of the fishing gear is the fishing rod which you will have to give a thought to. There are several types of reels for angling for different species of fish, and the same way there rods that go with the various kind of fishing that you are planning to do. You will have to make your selection of the rod according to the water that your are going to angle in. You need different kind of rods for shallow water, deep water and rough water fishing. Apart from all this, the selection of the rod will also depend on the kind of fish you planning to catch and the style of rod you will need, will it be fly-fishing or surf fishing or any other form of angling. The size of your rod will also have to be planned according to the size of the fish, as a flimsy rod with a large fish baited, will break and not withstanding the strength of the fish. Sometimes it helps to get expert advice before deciding on the type of fishing gear you pick up. This way you can be sure that you have the correct apparatus.

3. Other essentials for fishing

You must also have things like bait kits, fishing vest overalls and overalls when you set out on you trip. In case you are planning on the wading style of catching fish, the wader will help keep you dry. You will be kept warm and your head above the water with a warmer vest, and the bait kit will keep you in good supply of a variety of delicious baits for the fish. These are all essential tools and the better your equipment is the easier and more enjoyable will it may your fishing trip.

The Basic Fishing Supplies

Fishing is a nature-oriented sport that allows you to relax. Many people want to experience fishing, but are unable to buy the appropriate supplies for their adventure.

There are many fishing stores around, but majority of the stores try to sell unnecessary fishing supplies to gain more from the innocence of the fishing novice. Here are some of the basic fishing supplies you need for any kind of fishing in any location.

1) Hooks – In a variety of shape and sizes, these are one of the most important parts of your fishing gear. Fishing hooks are affordable, so you could stock an assortment of hooks for each kind of fishing. Majority of hooks are shaped like a letter “J.”

2) Rigs – These are used for catching different kinds and species of fish. The two most common rigs are the Bobber and Crappie. Bobber rigs are suitable for catching Bluegills and are best for beginners.

3) Sinkers – As the name suggests, this fishing equipment is used to cast lighter lures and to quickly drop the bait to the bottom of the water where the fish are located. Together with the bobbers, the sinkers are used to hold your line at any given point.

In fishing stores, you will find numerous variations of sinkers that come in different sizes, weights, and shapes. The current speed and the water depth would determine the weight of the sinkers you will need for your fishing trip.

4) Bobber – It is also called a cork or a float. The bobber’s purpose is to let you know when a fish bites your bait. The commonly used bobbers are pencil, slip bobbers and buttons. They come in different sizes to fit all kinds of baits and sinkers. The best bobbers are those that are smaller. The wind would blow the bobber back to you if it were too light and would scare the fishes off when it is too big.

5) Swivels – This kind of fishing equipment is used when you are fishing with bait such as a spinner or a minnow. These kinds of bait tend to twist and turn, which would likely your line deformed. By using the swivel and connecting it between your line and bait, it would allow the lure to spin around without tangling up the line. Swivels are affordable and come in different sizes to fit the bait and hooks you use.

Other supplies are the tackle box and your bait. The bait would vary depending on the kind of fishing you wish to perform.

Now that you know the basics, you could easily enjoy your fishing trip affordably and safely.

how to make fly indicators for fly fishing at home? or what stores are cheap?

if you can i would like under $1 each and if you can and way to use anything for an indicator to use for fishing for bass and bluegills? thank you email me at: stvn_gvns@yahoo.com if you have sites or products again thanks

I have used the orange foam balls with a hole in them that are set with a toothpick. I don’t think it is a very flexible way of setting up an indicator. I have once seen a pattern for a fly indicator using some (from what I can remember) Dacron yarn, tying thread and a small rubber O-Ring. But I have yet felt the need to tie one.

On the shallow streams (1 to 6 foot deep) that I fish on I have found that strike indicators don’t offer me much benefit. I typically use the end of my floating line tip as the indicator or….

Because it’s allowed when fishing for Trout and Sunfish in Minnesota, when the water is a little deeper, I use a larger foam floating fly as a strike indicator. Something liked a foam Hopper pattern, or a Chernobyl ant pattern and use my nymph pattern as a dropper with the 12 to 18″ dropper line attached to the hook of my indicator pattern by looping a double surgeons loop around the indicator’s hook.

Using this method I believe is the least expensive because I can use a fly that is already in my fly box.

For bass I only use my line as the strike indicator because using motre than one fly when fishing for Bass isn’t allowed in Minnesota. I have had some good sucess using a Montana or a (yes Its name is) B*itch Creek fly. I ususaly strip yjue line to give the fly some movement on still waters. Bass tend to hit it hard so, I can set the line on the strip, and just keep the tension on the line and then before I know it I’ll be using my forsnips to remove the hook.

Salt Water Fishing
Salt Water Fishing

Salt Water Fish to Stay Away From

Unless you are a master salt water fish keeping expert there are a few types of fish you should avoid. These fish are very hard to keep alive and will likely just be a waste of money and cruel punishment for the fish itself.

Angelfish

These amazing looking salt water fish are maybe one of the best examples of how vibrant the colors of a salt water fish can be, sadly, these fish are very difficult to keep and feed and are often very destructive to the fish tank, especially a reef tank. Angels are also very territorial and are not suggested to be kept in pairs. These fish feed on sponge and tunicate which is why they are not a wise choice for the average salt water fish keeper who does not have the proper fish tank supplies and salt water expertise.

Seahorses

One of the strangest and interesting salt water fish the seahorse is nonetheless very difficult to properly take car of in a home aquarium environment. Seahorses are very picky eaters and will often only eat live foods such as ghost shrimp. Captivity bred seahorses are easier to keep than live caught ones but they are still very difficult to keep. These slow feeders should only be kept in tanks with other seahorses, bottom feeders or slow fish so that they can properly get enough to eat and not be edged out by more aggressive fish.

Ribbon eels

The ribbon eel or blue ribbon eel is a very unique, bright colored saltwater eel that is difficult to keep in captivity due to their skittishness and sensitivity to changes in environment. Although it is one of the more peaceful eels it not recommend for purchase by anyone because nearly every case of captive keeping of ribbon eels has led to the eel starving after being captured. There are some reports of people successfully keeping them in captivity it is very rare and not suggested.

In case you are taking a boat from the charter service for you fishing expedition it will be fully equipped by them for whatever you may require during the trip, but if you are taking your own vessel, then you ought to know what it is you will need. You would need the usual fishing paraphernalia like baits, lures, reels and rods.

2. Additional emergency equipment
There may be some additional gear that you would want to take along to help you in case the catch is large which you can expect if you are out far into the sea. With the right kind of equipment you need have no anxious moments and can take good care of yourself and your baot..

It is safer to have a fighting belt wrapped around you as this would provide you with more control and protection in case you have caught some large species like tuna or shark, which is quite probable so far away from the shore. These huge species are tough specimens to fight against, and you will need to be properly geared to fight against any such incident and take care of yourself. Cabella which is a very well known manufacturer of deep sea fishing equipment is one of the best places to look for such belts and other salt water or deep fishing gear.

Some fish, like the sharks close their jaws on the bait and do not open them easily, so another important piece of equipment that you will need is a pair of pliers. You could open the jaws of the sharks or any other large fish once they are locked around the bait and do not let go.

3. Charter services often provide emergency gear too
As you must know, charter service usually provide you with all the emergency equipment that you will need in case you catch a problematic fish like the swordfish, tuna, wahoo, shark or any other such species. One of these emergency types of equipment are harpoons, but these should be handled with care as they could be dangerous if you do not know how to use them properly. In case you are not sure of the way to use this, it is best to leave this to the more skillful persons to use. Anyways, be sure to have all the required equipment with you that you might need when you go deep sea fishing.

California’s New Melones ideal for houseboating

New Melones Lake is much more than a houseboat experience — it’s also an up-close look at some of the colorful history of California’s Gold Country.

Even if you just want to enjoy the peace and relative solitude of the 12,500-acre lake, New Melones will not disappoint. The fifth largest reservoir in California, New Melones has plenty of coves, beaches, trails and scenery to keep you enthralled for the length of your vacation.

There are, of course, several inns and lodgings throughout this region of the Sierra Nevada foothills about the same latitude as San Francisco. But for our most recent trip to the area we indulged our passion for boating by renting a luxury houseboat — an experience that proved rewarding for both our family and friends who came along to enjoy a week of sightseeing and relaxation.

Renting a houseboat is one of the best ways we can think of to combine the feeling of a complete escape to Nature with certain amenities that, the older we get, the less we want to do without. Gone are the days of tent camping on a pristine lake high in the alpine wilderness — an adventure that we loved when our backs didn’t ache from sleeping on hard ground. Nowadays we’re doing kinder, gentler forays into the “wilderness” where we greet each sunny new day after sleeping restfully on a comfortable bed – in this case, in our own private stateroom aboard the Arete, our houseboat for the week.

We have done houseboats many times over the years, but this one was special. It was bigger, fancier, better equipped and easier to operate than any of our previous boats. This 56-footer included all the amenities you could ever hope for out on the water: a full gourmet kitchen with such appliances as a dish washer and trash compactor, an entertainment center with satellite TV and movie-style digital sound, an open-air hot tub on the upper deck, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a sleeping loft and a wet bar adjacent to the top-deck flying bridge.

We did this adventure with one other family — a total of seven people, including three kids. The houseboat company says you can sleep up to 15 people on this boat — and you can — but our recommendation is you don’t put more than two small families, or one extended family, on one boat. You have to have a little space when you’re sharing a boat for a week and, although we were quite comfortable with seven, we could not imagine cramming another family on board.

If you’re new to houseboating, the New Melones experience is a great place to get started. The houseboats are rented by Houseboats.com, which has operators take your boat in and out of the dock area, thereby eliminating 99 percent of the potential for serious damage to your boat. You won’t be docking your boat the entire week and even novice captains will find it easy to beach these boats along broad sandy shorelines with steep drop-offs that keep you from damaging your prop on the lake bottom. The lake has many coves that offer complete protection from wind, thereby eliminating one more frequent boating hazard. About the only thing you need to be careful about is avoiding snags lurking just under the water in a few generally well-marked places around the lake.

When you eliminate most of the usual boating hassles and hazards, you’re left with just the carefree relaxation that boaters crave. It’s the feeling of being out away from everything, in charge of your own destiny and the excitement of discovering new points of interest along a hundred miles of New Melones shoreline.

One of our favorite spots was Rose Island, which we discovered about midway through our week — a place several acres in size with rolling green hills and occasional stands of oak trees overlooking numerous beaches, coves and jagged cliffs. A squadron of Canadian geese call the island home, while we saw evidence of larger animals who must reside here. Standing atop the island and looking at the green hillsides below we could not help but draw a comparison with the views you would see in the Irish countryside.

We found several other coves where we would follow our normal procedure of beaching the boat, getting off to explore and take pictures, and then settling in for a meal, some family games, some star-gazing from the hot tub and an early bedtime. Surprisingly it wasn’t until the next to last day that we even tuned in the satellite television — we just didn’t miss it, and somehow to us it just seemed like a little too much contact with civilization while we were enjoying our communion with Nature.

We did stop back at the boat dock a couple of times during our week — some of us had some business to attend to, while others did some sightseeing in the area. The marina is located just eight miles from Angel’s Camp, which is just one of the many historic communities in this area that offer sightseeing, quaint shops, great restaurants and, in some cases, nearby wineries. We especially enjoyed stops in historic Sonora and Murphys, the best place to find a number of wine-tasting rooms as well as many wineries located in the immediate vicinity.

Another side trip was to Columbia State Park, a historic western theme town that is authentic and fun for the entire family. Several businesses offer such items as candy and memorabilia, while the town also has an interesting museum and a couple of authentic saloons. The City Hotel is just like the hotels you see in the westerns with plenty of antiques and ornate architecture. If you want to try your hand at gold panning, there is a place that will teach you how.

Our friends visited nearby Moaning Caverns, a place where you can go far underground and also experience a new zip line thrill ride through the forests. The caverns are deep and give you a chance to see a variety of rock formations.

We also took a side trip to see Mark Twain’s former cabin where it is said he wrote some of his works while visiting Gold Country. You’ll want to note, however, that this is a replica and not the actual cabin. But it does give you an idea of what life was like for Twain when he visited the area.

But most of this particular week was spent on our boat, a kind of Robinson Crusoe holiday in which we let the waters carry us to whatever new adventure awaited us along this vast and interesting shoreline. It was like running our own cruise ship — we determined our own daily ports of call and then retired at night to a comfortable, luxurious cabin where we could not wait to awaken to another day of discovery.

AT A GLANCE

WHERE: New Melones Lake is 53 miles east of Modesto or 136 miles east of San Francisco and is located near such popular tourist attractions as Angels Camp, Sonora, Murphys and Columbia State Park.

WHAT: New Melones is one of California’s youngest recreation lakes and offers a variety of hiking trails, beaches and other activities. Fishing is also popular and the lake yields several different kinds of fish.

WHEN: The houseboats are most busy in the summer months when visitors can count on the weather to be blue skies, sunny and hot. The lake has an elevation of about 1,100 feet and definitely has four seasons. We found spring to be an ideal time because there were fewer boats on the lake and the weather was mild – generally in the low 60′s during the day, with plenty of sun.

WHY: New Melones is an ideal place to try houseboating because the boats are easy to operate and there are plenty of places to beach your houseboat away from any potential wind.

HOW: Houseboats can be rented for a few days or, more commonly, by the week. While some boats are less expensive, the Odyssey that we rented goes for between $198 and $439 per family, per day plus fuel, depending on time of year and assuming you are sharing the boat with one other family. For more information, call 877-468-7326 or visit www.houseboats.com.

Fishing for Striped Bass in Maine: Night Fishing

Striped bass, otherwise known as stripers or rockfish, are one of Maine’s most popular game fish, attracting thousands of anglers from around the world every year. Easily recognized by the seven or eight dark stripes that run continuously along their bodies, a striped bass is considered to be one of the ultimate prizes on offer in Maine’s many saltwater fishing locations.

There are many techniques used to catch striped bass, with each angler having their owned preferred method. One such method is night fishing, which has become immensely popular in recent years, especially during the fall months, with anglers reporting intense striped bass action resulting in some seriously impressive catches. As stripers migrate south during and after the fall months, they stock up on food to ensure they have the energy to make the long trip. Fortunately for the anglers in Maine, this makes them very easy targets, particularly at night time when they are known to feed most. Not only are the numbers of striped bass up at this time of year, but so are the chances of landing a trophy fish, which is why anglers from across the state pack up their bags head for the coast during the fall.

Striped bass are known to be particularly sensitive to their environment, with unusually cold nights or storms known to disrupt their feeding patterns. Subsequently, night fishing for stripers is best done on a calm, clear moonlit night. As for where to fish, look for air bubbles caused by obstructions such as boulders beneath the water. Undercurrents can become quite strong at this time of year and so the fish will congregate and use any obstructions present as shelter.

The best bait and equipment to use will vary depending on your preference and whether or not you are looking to land big stripers. Chunk bait, such as lumps of herring or mackerel, is known to attract striped bass, as are eels and bloodworms. In terms of equipment, medium to heavy duty reels and line is advised should you end up engaged in battle with a forty inch striper they certainly do not give up easily!

Striped bass can be found up and down the coast of Maine, as well as inland in many saltwater and even freshwater locations. A handful of renowned striper hotspots include Penobscot River, Parsons Beach, Scarborough River and stretches of the Piscataqua River, though you will find most advertised striped bass locations offer excellent action at night during the fall.

What kind of salt water sports fishing can i look for near hilo hawaii?

I don’t have a boat and i don’t have the money to go out on a charter although i might look for a local to take me out for 100 bucks or so. I’ve never fished hawaii before and i have no idea what kind of sports fish are over there. i am an experienced fisherman.

Get a local to help you, or you probably won’t catch anything. It’s a joke with the people watching tourists catch no fish.

You need local bait. And many of the shore fish are vegetarians, so bread balls and corn or other types of bait works.

Peers are good or sometimes places pleasure boats dock if allowed. If you can fish around Fishing Boat doc areas where they clean the fish and dispose of the parts it can be really good with some huge fish. If you want to shore fish find a place where beach meets rocks and no one is surfing or you could incur serious local wrath, and you don’t want to do that.

What can you catch? There are literally hundreds of species. There are places the deep water is only a few feet away from the shore, and during high tide anything could come in. Probably not Marlin or huge Tuna, but an amazing variety of species and sizes of fish including sharks.

It’s not easy fishing the shore because coral catches your line and if you get a fish on it’s likely to cut it quickly. Better to get a higher perch where you can keep them out of it with pressure up.

Going out in a little boat and getting a kid to go down and bust up some clams to attract a bunch of reef fish is a good way to get things going. You break open a clam and they come from all over and have a feeding frenzy which attracts larger fish. Now that’s a secret I learned in Okinawa, and I know it works in Hawaii too because of friends who told me. I’ve been there in Hawaii, but never spent a lot of time fishing.

Going out after the big game fish isn’t worth it if you ask me. Very few come back with anything. The deep Sea Fishing for bottom fish is better if you go out, and much cheaper. Don’t go screwing around in a little boat yourself either, so many people get swept out every year. There are currents which will have you out to sea before you know it, then you can’t get back because of the current, and you are way out there and pretty lonely and it’s a crap shoot if anyone gets out to help you. It’s a damned big ocean out there.

Good Luck!

Fishing Tackle – How to Know What the Best Fishing Tackle For Your Location Is

When it comes to being an effective fisherman, few components matter as much as your fishing tackle selection. You could be the best fisherman in the world, but without the right tackle for the fish you are fishing, you aren’t going to catch many fish-period.

On the other hand, you could be the worst fisherman in the world, but if you have the correct tackle for your area, you still have a shot at catching your fish.

As with fishing knots, fishing tackle is one of the fundamentals you need to master. So many people are so focused on technique that they completely forget about the fundamentals such as having correct fishing knots and tackle; this is just like trying to master the golf swing without knowing the right grip and setup. It just won’t work.

The number one thing you need to understand is that the lures are the most crucial aspect of your tackle, and the one you should pay the most attention to. This is what’s going to make or break your success.

What’s the best kind of lure to get? As with anything in fishing, it depends on what kind of fish you are going after, and where you plan on fishing.

You need to know this information before you get fishing tackle. Consider not only the variety of fish you are targeting, but what they will be eating in the area you will be. Try to get lures that mimic what they eat as much has possible, as this is much more likely to attract them.

If you don’t know what the fish in the area you will be fishing will be eating, call up the local Fishing Guides in the area, and ask what kind of lures they’d recommend. A pretty foolproof method, and one that’s virtually guaranteed to give you the correct fishing lures for your trip.

If you plan on fishing in the same area many times, then the best method to learn the right tackle to use is to go fishing with an experienced fisherman for your first several trips, and see what equipment they use.

There’s nothing like copying people who already have the skill you want to learn, as this is much quicker than attempting to learn it al yourself, which can take years of trial and error. So many people do this when they could cut a huge chunk of time out of their learning curve by simply modeling other top fisherman.

Now that we’ve gotten the most important aspect of your tackle out of the way, there are still some important things you need to consider, such as gear. Always purchase clothing appropriate to wear you will be fishing, and the season as well.

Where should you get your fishing tackle? Obviously, you can do so at your local fishing shops, but here is a much better method-buy them online.

You can generally save a lot of money using this method, as the selection will be wider and if you search enough, you will probably save about 50% or more off the typical retail price for comparable offline fishing tackle.

“I have a chance to go fishing for a week. It is the opportunity of a lifetime. We leave right away. So, if you could, please pack my clothes, my fishing equipment and especially my blue silk pyjamas. I will be home in an hour to pick them up.”

He goes home in a hurry, grabs everything and rushes off.

A week later he returns. His wife asks, “Did you have a good trip, dear?”

He responds, “Oh yes, great! The fishing was fantastic! You would not believe the size of one that I caught. The only thing is that you forgot to pack my blue silk pyjamas.”

His wife smiles and says, “Oh no, I did not. I put them in your tackle box!”

A fisherman travels downstream at full speed to his favorite fishing spot.?

A fisherman travels downstream at full speed to his favorite fishing spot. The stream is running at a rate of 5 miles per hour, and the trip takes 2 hours to get to the fishing hole. He is surprised, however, to find that the trip takes 6 hours at full speed to get back to the dock when he is finished. How fast will his Fishing Boat go?

Let the speed of the motor boat in still water be x mph
Then upstream speed = x – 5
and Downstream speed = x + 5
Distance = speed * Time
Distances are equal
==> 2(x + 5) = 6(x – 5)
==> 2x + 10 = 6x – 30
==> 40 = 4x
==> 10 = x

The boat’s speed in still water is 10 mph.

Fishing With the Perfect “nightcrawler”

Fishing with the perfect “Nightcrawler”.

The nightcrawler is deadly, devastating, and irresistible when used properly. For years the crawler has emerged as the number one live bait among the majority of freshwater fishermen in this country, with good reason. It will produce where others fail!
But not just any nightcrawler! By now, we’re sure, you have heard and read about the conditioned crawler, a worm, through a temperature controlled feeding process, becomes thicker and juicier, and livelier than the ordinary store bought worm. Well, its true, this conditioned worm is indeed a much more appealing enticement to fish than its lazy counterpart. On the hook, the conditioned worm nightcrawler is a virtual acrobat, twisting, jumping, and moving about as if possessed. And he will last longer, hours longer, than a regular worm in the water! In this article, we’ll give you instructions as to how you can grow nightcrawlers like this in just a three-day period. It is not a difficult process to learn. You can do it and do it right after you have absorbed all of the facts to be revealed here.
The culling process – You pick the right ones!
The most important step in preparing your nightcrawlers for conditioning is to separate the healthy crawlers from the smaller, weak crawlers. This is called culling. As a rule no matter where you buy your live bait, you are going to get a mixture of good and bad worms. Cull the little ones from the bunch and set aside at least three dozen crawlers for the conditioning process.
The bedding makes the best results.
There are many choices of worm bedding on the market today. Choose one that you feel will work the best in you area, then fill a container about half full. Then pour in just enough water to make the bedding moist. Be careful not to put in too much water. You don’t want it too soggy. Next, soak some newspaper and pack it loosely over the top of the bedding. Make sure you have put some nightcrawlers in the bedding before you lay the newspaper in. The next step is temperature control. Temperature is the key to making these crawlers turn out, as you want them to. If its to warm in the storage area they will die. The proper storage temperature for worms in the conditioning stages is 50-60 degrees. Usually the coolest area in your basement will do the job or a spare refrigerator with the temperature set at 50-60 degrees would be good too. Now wait three days and get ready for a great site. You won’t believe it! The crawlers will literally jump at you. They will squirm like crazy, ready to place on a hook.

The best method for fishing the conditioned crawler is in combination with the bottom rig. But before you cast that worm in the water, first inject two small blasts of air into the crawler. You can purchase air injectors from almost all tackle stores. What this does is allows the crawler to float 12 to 18 inches off the lake bottom, thus in full view of any fish in the area. Be sure to hook that crawler just once through the tip of the nose, so he will be able to move freely on the hook and appear very natural to the fish. One thing is quite certain; the conditioned nightcrawler will out produce the ordinary store bought crawler every time. Sometimes the results can be spectacular! One other thing to remember is that after the crawlers have been conditioned is they must be kept somewhat cool. Don’t leave them exposed to the sun at any time. Keep them in a shady area of the boat or in the cooler. This recipe for success has been proven over and over again. The conditioned nightcrawler is a deadly fishing bait for almost any freshwater fish.

I would like to implement a prompt payment discount for my customers?

I’m a Wholesale fish supplier to hotels and restaurants, how much discount would you give and how long after payment would u give it, ie. same month or knock off following months statement etc? My customers have 30 day accounts but all keep going well over 60 days. any advice would be appreciated.

You could try giving terms of 2/10 n/30. This means that if customers pay within 10 days of the invoice date, they can deduct 2 percent of the invoice price. Otherwise they are required to pay within 30 days of the invoice date.

Many businesses take advantage of suppliers by not paying on time. Sometimes it is because they are short of money due to poor cash flow, and sometimes they are simply unscrupulous and want to earn interest on the money they owe you or use your money as their working capital.

You may also consider adding a penalty to your invoice. For example, 2 percent interest per month is charged for late payments. Unscrupulous customers will ignore this and pay the invoice amount late, thinking that you cannot do anything about it. Depending on how much you depend on their business or they on yours, you can always stop doing business with them.

Fishing Safety

Fishing is a benefit for everyone, it not only is an entertainment way but also is a way to communicate with others. Fishing will calm down people’s mood and train people’s patience too. But when you are fishing, you must notice your safty. This article will teach you how to protect yourself when you are enjoying happiness.

Learn swimming. If you are not good at swimming,it is dangerous to you to fish on the river or lake. According to the statistic, there are more than one hundred thousand people die from drown. Therefore,if you fish, you should know how to swim to protect your safty. You can attend the swimming training school where the professional coach will teach you,or invite your friends to help you. What’s more, never dive into the river where you don’t know how deep it is.

Pay attention on your fishing tools. Don’t leave your other tools on the ground where other people can trip on it, or they will break your fishing tools and destroy your mood of fishing. So put your tools on a safe place will be necessary. When you are fishing on the river, you must pay attention on your line and hook, and avoid to be caught by the trees or power lines. Moreover,if the hook is deep inside the fish, don’t take it out from the fish forcibly. It will destroy the hook. You can get it out by some tools, like hook disgorger. Like a sting in people’s skin, the hook can leave the fish freely.

Save yourself. If you are not careful enough and drop into the water, you should calm down and think some proper ways to get out of the water. Most people know that human specific gravity almost is equal to water,so even if you can’t swim, you also can float on the water easily. The second step is catch something. You can catch the trees, lines and other persons.

Shout loudly. No matter how lonely the place is, you should shout loudly if you have the chance in order to be heard by some people nearly. I believe anyone who listen to your sound will come and give you a hand.

Saltwater Fishing Tackle – How To Get It At Discounted Prices

You may be in need of fishing gear but have a limited and tight budget, for the fishing trip you are planning. You need not worry as you will get salt water fishing gear at a reasonable discounted price. You can initiate your search for fishing apparatus on the net where you are bound to get the information you are looking for and the kind of tackle that you need. This of course would depend on the variety of fish you are eager to you catch, and the size of the fish. As precise kinds of angling gear are called for by certain fishing locales, it is better to find out what is required before spending your money on something that will turn out to be of no use. Even reduced rate saltwater fishing equipment will be a fritter away if you are not able to use it.

Search for your equipment on line
As it is always easier to look for sales on the internet, you can search for you fishing gear in this way, and see where you can get discounted articles. Any search on the internet provides you with many more options than physically going around and searching for it.
Whatever way you search for the equipment you have to first make sure that you are going in for the correct kind of gear for the particular type of fishing that you are planning to do. In case you have no idea whatsoever about the discounted fishing gear that you have to go in for, it is wise to get some expert advise on what you should go in for instead of picking up the wrong things.

Essential items that you cannot pass by
There are some things which even if they are not available on the discount sale, will have to be bought. These are all vital part of the gear and you will definitely have to have them. Some of the things you have to have for your fishing trip are:
 The Leader
 The Swivel
 The Plug or lure
 The Sinker or weight
 The Hook

These are things that are referred to as the “terminal” saltwater fishing gear and are thrown out into the water with the expectations that they will entice the fish to get baited. Very often there will be people sitting for hours with their tackle and yet not being able to catch anything, mostly this is because of the wrong kind of equipment that they have got.

Some time there is no luck and no catch
Sometimes you may have all the proper discounted fishing gear and yet not bait anything at all. Do not give up heart as it could be because of the weather or several other factors, like too many anglers in the same location.

Anyways, if you have got the right discounted salt water fishing equipment, chances are that you will most probably bait that fish that you have been wanting to, and that too at a very reasonable cost.

starting a fish only saltwater tank-need suggestions?

I am limited on money for the time being and ran into a 75g tank and I want to slowly set up for saltwater fish. I was going to get the equipment first, then add live sand and set up the water, then when I can afford it, slowly add the live rock because I want to get at least 50lbs and I know its really expensive so I would just buy some when I can and just add it when I get a rock here and there. When I have everything established, I was going to add the fish.

Is it possible to do it this slowly? Do I even need the live rock in the tank? I was even wondering if I could have just live sand/coral gravel and fish only, if I can slowly add live rock while the fish are living in the tank or if I had to have the rock set up first and not change anything while the fish are in the tank. The rock is just so expensive and I was looking for some alternatives until I could afford enough of it.

I plan on doing a lot of research first before I jump into it.

Personally I’d save my money for the items you really want, then buy it all at once.

If you find a good deal, do jump on it. I check out craigslist and saltwater forums. I managed to find some good deals on live rock ($2-3/lb) as well.

Stay away from crush coral, just use live sand. Overtime crushed coral can become a nitrate facotyr.

My suggestion, once you get the tank, and an RO/DI filter (yes you need this, tap water is horrible), you can fill your tank as this will sometimes take 24hrs depending on how many gallons a day the filter does.

I’d add most of the live rock at once if I was you. It isn’t fun getting more, as then you have to take what you have out and add more. I did this twice, pain in my butt. Don’t do it with fish in the tank, this stresses the fish out, and in turn you can actually hurt them if you drop a rock on them or so on. If someone on the rock dies during this process you could have an ammonia spike and end up having the tank cycle again, which can kill the fish too. I lost a fish because I added more rock and he got stressed since we messed up where he sleeps. The next morning he was on the carpet, dead. $30 gone, and it took me 3 months to actually find another since they were hard to get.

Consider setting everything up first. Get all your equipment, RO/DI filter, salt, powerheads, etc, then save up for awhile and buy the rock. Craigslist is a great option.

Salt does not need to *cure* in the water. You need to cycle the tank, and with that you will want the live rock and live sand in there.

When you do water changes you let the water sit mixing for 24 hours, that way it is fully mixed, that is the only time you let it sit before adding it to the tank. There is no such thing as having to cure saltwater

Maumee Walleye Run:Check Out This Amazing Fishing Spectacle!

Old School Walleye Fishing Family Secrets

One of the most amazing spectacles in fishing is the world famous Maumee River Walleye run that happens every year near Lake Erie. You can catch your limit fast or go home empty handed. Just a note, there are some basic walleye fishing equipment you will need for your fishing trip. Don’t take this list lightly without these items chances are you will go home empty handed.

March of every year normally earmarks the start of the annual spawning migration of the walleye from lake erie up her tributaries. The most famous tributary run is the Maumee river. 1000′S of walleye will migrate up the river starting in March. The date is determined by when the the water temperature reaches near the 40deg mark. The walleye will head up river to their favorite spawning beds and will stage there until the water warms between 42deg – 52deg Fahrenheit and then the females will spawn.Typically, the date the walleye spawn normally occurs is late March or Early April

The 2009 predictions for the Maumee Walleye run have been released by the Ohio Department Of Natural Resources and the size and numbers look excellent! The 2003 class looks to be the leader for walleye that will be caught. It is estimated they will range in size from 18 to 26 inches. If you are looking for that trophy, there also will be some 22 to 30 inch monsters probably caught this year. A 22 to 30inch walleye is a good size fish. These fish are excellent for eating and make for some nice size fillets. There is no better eating then walleye fillets in the skillet. The larger walleye will be from hatches from 1996,1998,1999,and 2001. There has been walleye caught on this run dating back to the 1980′s These are extremely large fish and also extremely rare.

If you are wondering where to go so you can fish the annual Maumee walleye run , head to the Conant Street bridge between Perrysburg and Maumee. Wading is the most popular type of fishing the run. Safety is key here, you must be very careful when wading the swift current. The water is extremely cold, and makes it hazardous.
Before you make a decision to fish the walleye run make sure you take note of the following basic walleye fishing equipment you will need.

#1 If you are going to be wading you need to have a good set of chest waders that are insulated. Make sure you also have a belt of some kind around your waist you will need this to mount basic tools.

#2 You will need a good graphite walleye spinning rod 6ft to 7ft in length that is rated Medium lite to medium action.

#3 You will need your spinning reel to match the rod. This is determined by the lure size.

#4 You will need to spool your reel with “fire line” This line is designed not to strech and you can feel even the smallest of nibbles.

#5 You will need a net (remember if you are wading this should be small in size.

#6 You will need a stringer for your fish.

#7 You will need to have floating walleye fishing jig heads tipped with brightly colored plastic tails, fished about 18 to 24-inches below a weight is generally the most successful lure. The amount of weight depends on the amount of current; at low river stages use about 3/8 oz. weight and at high river flow you may need heavier ¾ oz. weight.

Love the Outdoors. Where to go for Spring Break?

I am a college student, and I love to hike/walk/camp/trek/river raft/etc, but I am on a very limited budget.
Right now I’m in Eastern Washington, and it’s too cold to do any of those things for Spring Break, so I was wondering if anyone knows of a good place to go (So Cal? AZ? etc.) that will be warm around mid-March.
I have a week, and I’ve heard about Zion and obviously the Grand Canyon would be great, but my bank account is quite low, so transportation to a warm place is an issue. Lost cause?
P.S. I have most of the gear I might need, it’s just airfare that’s a problem.

P.P.S. I love camping, or just a series of day hikes, I LOVE fishing (pref. for things that use trout equipment), I like rugged terrain, and I LOVE taking pictures.

Yosemite National Park in Ca is absolutely spectacular in the spring

Fly Fishing Books

Although experience is a great teacher when you are learning about fly fishing, you may also want to look into the myriad of books that are available on the topic. Fly fishing involves a lot of things, and you’ll need to know about these things if you’re going to be effective in the sport. Fly fishing books are a great way to start learning!

A quick search on Amazon.com shows over 8,000 titles on fly fishing available! Prices range between $10 and $50. Some of these books are purely instructional while others contain anecdotes and fish stories designed to entertain. You can get books that tell you the best places to fish at and the most satisfying fly fishing destinations.

Fly fishing books are great resources as well if you want to learn how to tie your own flies. One of the first things you need to know in fly tying is what the flies look like that you’re trying to mimic. When the book comes with illustrations, you can easily match your fly to the picture.

Online books are another great way to get information about fly fishing. There are many e-books available for download. Look for the ones that will fit your needs. If you’re a beginner, you may want a comprehensive guide to all aspects of fly fishing. If you’re more experienced, an update book may be the way to go.

When choosing a fly fishing book, look at the author first. Are they qualified to write this book? What experience do they have in the sport? Can they provide you with compelling reasons to take his or her advice? You will get more accurate information from a person who has personal experience to offer.

Is the book easy to read? When you are reading a book filled with technical language, it can be overwhelming and it isn’t likely to help you much. The author should define unfamiliar language early on in the book and keep reminding you throughout the text what they are referring to.

Don’t opt for long winded tomes of pages akin to War and Peace. They aren’t likely to give you much good advice plus the boredom factor has to come into play. A lot of great information can be packed into a few pages. Opt for the shorter book rather than the longer one so you get what you pay for!

Fly fishing books are wonderful sources of information when you are learning about this sport. Find a book that you are comfortable reading that also gives you what you are looking for. The choices are vast, so go online or get to the bookstore today and learn what you need to about the sport of fly fishing!

What are some good books to buy for my 28-year-old boyfriend?

He says he’s never read a book cover to cover because he’s never found a book that would hold his interest. He’s a guys guy – into dirtbiking, fishing and surfing. He owns his own construction company and is extremely intelligent. I want to get him to love reading as much as I do but I need suggestions on good books.

If he likes action movies like the Bourne or James Bond style of movies, then he might like the books of Matthew Reilly. These are jam packed with action, almost from the very first page and will keep just about anyone turning pages. Start with Ice Station or Seven Deadly Wonders, which are the first books in their respective series. The situations the heroes get into and how they get out of them will keep him reading and coming back for more.

Salt Water Equipment

Setting Up Your Own Salt Water Aquarium – 2 Simple Steps

1. The Basic Tank Requirement
Salt water aquariums are larger than normal and can house large sea fish, limited only by the space you can provide. It is true that it could cost quite a few bucks to get started, but then when you think of what you can save on manual labor in the long run; it may just be within your reach. Imagine having one of those giant ones in your own home, and imagine the fact that it is in fact within your reach.

A. Equipment – Any aquarium is dirty when it arrives. While this may sound alarming, let us understand that any packing material uses some sort of chemical or the other to keep out the bugs. This may be harmful to your fish, so make sure you clean the tank out well before you install it. Do remember to clean it with something soft, or you risk getting scratch marks all over the glass.

B. Get all your gear into the tank except for the decorative ones. You can now fill the fish tank with salt water up to the line which is usually marked two or three inches below the rim of the tank. If you do not have access to salt water, we later explain how you can make some. Now, you let the tank run for a day to ensure everything is working ok.

2. Salt Water
When you are going to get salt water fish into your aquarium, do keep in mind that they belong in the sea and are thus used to a certain amount of salt in their water. You could purchase salt water, or you could get some if you aren’t far from a beach. In the absence of both these options you could make your salt water at home. Rather than simply use table salt which contains impurities, you should purchase salt water solution mixes at the pet stores. Any shop that sells tropical fish should have some of these.

When you have salt water in your aquarium, you can house all kinds of sea weed and other species of life that are used to the salt water. Real plants are definitely more pleasing to the eye than plastic, and your fish may even feed on some of the organisms that rest on the plant leaves.

Important – At least once a month you need to monitor the ammonia level in your salt water. Too high a level can prove fatal for your prized fishes.

When you use these simple steps we have mentioned to prepare and maintain your salt water aquarium, your tank will be beautiful for years and years to come, and your fish will always remain healthy. Take the time to get the basics right before you buy the more expensive varieties of fish.

The effect of adding salt to the boiling point of tap water;?

how would i go about planning this experiment?
eg : the equipment , hypothesis ,

The hypothesis is that minerals , or in this case salt, disolved in water will change its boiling point. Get two beakers of water. One fresh, one with the salt disolved in it. Put as much salt in the water as it will disolve in order to achieve the biggest difference possible. Heat each beaker of water using a standard lab type gas burner until it boils and take the temperature using a thermometer that is rated for at least 300 degrees F. A digital thermometer would be best because analog dials are more difficult to read with accuracy. Record the temperatures.

Make sure your beakers are rated for this type of use and properly secured on a beaker stand before you do this. I suppose you could also do it on a cook stove in a sause pan, but you would be more likely to be burned by the steam and it would not look as cool.

Collecting Antique Fishing Equipment – First Step To Your New Fishing Hobby

How can you relate fishing with classic? Yes, you are right! Antique fishing equipment! Because these fishing gears withstood the test of time, they became fortunes not only for their antique value but also due to its power to evoke nostalgia on the ones who possess them. These fishing equipment might be ordinary fishing materials during their time, but time proved them worthy of treasuring. Time-tested, elegant, classic, these antique fishing equipment are truly hot collectors’ item nowadays. No matter if you are from today’s era or from the olden days, fishing professional or newbie, purchasing antique fishing equipment can turn into a craze.

There are certainly numerous antique fishing equipment available for anybody who wants to collect a little portion of the past. These equipment range from the basic essentials like rod, tackle and reel to anglers and former licenses for fishing in the 1930s and so on. It really depends on the collector what fishing objects he is obsessed in.

Often, vintage reels are the ones most collectors want to acquire. At present, reels are made up of strong metal alloys but in the past they make use of various metals such as steel, iron and brass. It is not only the materials that changed through time. Although the former reels have flaws that was modified to newer models to improve their effectiveness, each of these reels have their own exclusive, elegant designs that really hook antique collectors into acquiring them.

After the reels, lures are the next most hunted antique fishing equipment. Lures made before 1970s are a lot more attractive than the ones used now. At times, these vintage lures have great craftsmanship that they look almost exactly like the fish they replicate. This is why they are very much wanted by antique collectors.

Bobbers are another collectors’ item. Before the Styrofoam was made the standard bobber material, bobbers were used to be made of cork. Yes, you are right; the ones that you remove from your champagne bottles with your corkscrew. Even though not as famous as reels when it comes to antique collectors’ items, bobbers are still considered valuable and many want to have bobbers in their collection.

This is gonna sound so selfish but…?

Ok..I’ve known my boyfriend for about five years and he has always been the one to wear carhart jeans and work boots, with a tshirt. He’s always went hunting and fishing and all that stuff. Well last week he got a job on a office and he has to dress up everyday. thats fine, but he’s on this thing now that he has to grow up..he’s selling all his guns and poles and any other equipment…he’s selling his guitars.. he’s getting rid of all his jeans..and just acting strange. But It may be selfish but I don’t want him to change.. I love him in his jeans and boots…I love to go fishing…and I LOVE that he plays the guitar…so what do I do?.. I’d love him to death…I’d love to spend the rest of my life with him…Am I being stupid or is he?

well ur both stupid. You need to talk to HIM about this, not us. Tell him this, exactly what you wrote. Print it out if you have to! But Make it so that you love him no matter what he wears, or does. Tell him that. Then remind him(gently, and in a hushed tone) that if you changed like that, then he would be a little upset too. But go easy on him. This stuff could be really hard for him!

Let’s Go Bass Fishing – They Are Biting Everywhere

It seems when you mention bass fishing these days, particularly amongst a group of people, it’s the catalyst for instant conversation. You don’t believe me…try it!

Bass fishing has literally exploded in popularity since the 1950′s. From it’s humble beginnings as basically a fish hunted for food, bass has evolved into the second most sought after sporting fish in the world. And if you think bass fishing is only popular in the United States, think again. The Largemouth Bass has been introduced to countries such as Japan and South Africa who have active stocking programs in place to ensure the species’ survival. Bass Fishing also received an international boost several years ago when a Japanese angler took out the prized Bassmaster Classic Title. I think then, America’s bass fishing angling population realised their prized fish had come of age internationally.

Bass fishing today is a multi-billion dollar industry. When you take into account there is bass fishing equipment, bass fishing gear, the trusty bass Fishing Boat, bass fishing baits… and the list goes on, you start to see the bigger picture. Not to mention the boost bass fishing destinations receive when there is an influx of anglers in town all trying to land themselves that prized monster bass.

Largemouth bass or Oswego bass, Smallmouth bass, Kentucky bass, Striped bass… as long as it’s bass then you are sure to attract an angling crowd. Popular destinations in the USA include Alabama, Florida and California. Bass fishing in Alabama and bass fishing in Florida are just about a national past time. California you say… that’s right, bass fishing in California would you believe, is just booming. In fact, it’s so popular that there is talk that Disneyland may have to be moved. Just kidding! But seriously though, this fish they call bass is extremely popular just about anywhere you travel in the United States and no offence intended to other states for mentioning the above three.

In fact, if you love to cast a line and you’re planning a trip somewhere in the US that has a waterway with bass in it, then get in touch with the local city or tourist office and get the “lowdown” on where the bass are biting in that area. I’m sure they will be more than helpful however, I’m not too sure the locals will want to part with any insider information…if you know what I mean.

Need aquarium help!!!?

I was given a 200 gallon aquarium recently and we’ve finally decided to set it up. can anyone link me to a website or tell me the best filteration equipment to use? i’m not a beginner at keeping fish, i’ve just never had such a large tank and i want to set it up right. my kids are stuck on goldfish ( i know they are a dirtier fish to keep, but apparently that’s what we’re gonna go with). thanks in advance.

Goldfishparadise.com will be a good site to start with. Canister filters are best. Eheim is your best bet for such a large aquarium. You will need two canister filters. This will run you about $100-$120 new, try to find used ones maybe on craigSlist.com

Do not try an undergravel filter. What this is, is a grate that goes under the gravel and pulls all the crap and wasted food under it. You will have a buildup of waste that will be near impossbile to clean in such a huge tank. It causes problems with toxin buildups and its not pretty even in a 10 gallon tank when people decide to stop using it. I can’t imagine trying to maintain one in a 200 gallon tank.

I assume the aquarium is used. Fill it up in the driveway if you can to check for leaks. Clean it with some pure bleach and rinse several times. It is important to have a stable area in the house since this aquarium will weigh around 2000 pounds. Use shims to make sure it is as close to exactly level as you can. With that kind of water pressure even the slightest imbalance can lead to the glass exploding and a mini flood in the house.

Read up on fishless cycling and get a master test kit for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. Don’t worry too much about ph, so long as you have hard water with stability the ph can range from 7.6-9 for goldfish. Fishless cycling is done with pure ammonia (ACE hardware brand is pure) in such a big tank as it is the most economical way. Fishless cycling is done because there is no chance of losing any fish over the process.

Your tank can hold 15 fancy goldfish to adult size. Lucky you. You will want to add them slowly so as not to shock the cycle and cause a bacteria bloom. No algae eaters because they will eventually make a meal of the goldfish. You can add khuli loaches though.

I suggest you keep the tank at 78F for goldfish. A low temperature harbors some diseases better. A higher temperature will mean that any disease shows up faster so you can catch it. The goldfish will also have a better metabolism at this temperature and will grow faster and healthier.

That’s all I can think of for now.

The Fishing Equipment You Definitely Need

So, you are done packing all the fishing gear for the trip? Are you sure? Whether you are a beginner or an experienced angler, there are some items that should be on your list. Here are the bare essentials:

- The rod – Of course you need a fishing rod. But, what type of rod will you take? When choosing one, here is some advice. Don’t head to the discount department store to purchase yours. Instead, go for a middle of the line priced rod that is comfortable, the right length and serves your purpose. If you plan to fly fish, get the right rod.
- The reel – Yes, you need the right reel to match. Can you buy them together? Sure. If you are saltwater fishing, you need a protected reel that will not become ruined by the water. Again, as a beginner, middle of the road quality is needed.
- The lure – These should be geared towards the type of fish you are expecting to catch. Live bait is a great choice if you don’t mind getting it. The best way to know which lures to use, though, in the artificial options is to ask those at the local fish shop what they have had luck with. Depending on the type of fish and the area in which they live, these individuals can help you determine what to purchase.
- The line – You have to have quality line. Nothing is worse than catching a fish and then snapping the line because it couldn’t hold the weight. But, that doesn’t imply that you have to go with the most expensive one. Look for the right weight of line for your approximate weight of fish.
- The cooler – The first hour won’t be that bad. But if you are going to stay out for several hours you will definitely need this one. Have the cooler ready with your choice of beverages.

pacman/tomato frog alternative foods?

im doing research on dorm friendly pets. fish arent looking like the easiest option for me bc of the filtration equipment and water changes.

looking into frogs, i dont want to have to keep live foods in the room. will those frogs eat freeze dried alternatives or should i just eliminate this pet from my list?

thanks

they eat live insects and small mice… so i would say eliminate if you arent keeping live foods..
