Choosing Fish For Aquariums – Choose Between Gold Fish And Piranhas!
When you have put together your aquarium, you would be all eager to get the fish to go into it. But the dilemma about choosing the fish is that there are so many varieties available that you could get confused about your choice. It is best if you take the advice of your fish shop locally. But surely their advice will not be any different than the advice that follows here. If you think this is going to blossom into a really keen hobby, then choosing small fish could be just a waste of money and time. On the other hand, if this is a passing fancy or you have your kid’s interest in mind, then most certainly you should go for small fish.
Aquarium fish which is small is usually of bright colors and feed on fish flakes more than fish meat. They could range from angel fish to tetras and are chosen for decorative purposes due to their shine which reflects a bright silver under the particular aquarium lights. The fish species are simple and no fun to watch as they have no personality. These fishes are suitable for decoration and for simple aquarium set ups and usually people wanting a tank with low maintenance go for it.
It is a bit more difficult to maintain the larger fish like African fish and cichlids. But they generally are sturdier fish so their mortality rate is very low compared to other smaller weak fish. The main attraction or rather the problem of cichlids is however their cannibalism. They will gobble up the smaller fish in the tank in no time at all. If you feed them anything less than fish meat, they will not like it. Cichlids have different types and their looks also differ. Oscars which find personal favor with many people; can be red, tiger or albino. Then there are jaguar cichlids as well as black belts, and so the list goes on. These fish types need a lot of gravel cleaning and filter since they create lots of waste. Cichlids’ breeding pair costs a lot of money! Cichlids are generally the more expensive fish as they are larger (one tank can accommodate 5-6 cichlids and one half foot Oscar). One thing to remember is that these fish prefer to arrange the tank just the way they like it. So initially though the tank caters to your taste, it won’t stay the same for long. There is so much more to know about cichlids which have a distinct personality.
So the type of fish that you should get for your aquarium depends on the purpose of your getting the aquarium. Decorative small tanks need decorative small aquarium fish. But if you have a bigger tank, you should get bigger fish. Put in some larger fish and see the fun you will have watching them!

Ice Fishing requires one to catch fish after cracking a perfect hole in frozen waters. It calls for specialized equipment and clothing for fishermen, which includes specially designed sharp fishing gear to penetrate frozen surfaces, such as fishing lines fitted with hooks or spears. Ice fishing also calls for a lot of patience, stamina and ability to withstand extreme weather conditions as anglers are required to sit by icy waters, often in an open surrounding – unless they have invested in a heated shelter or basic shanty arrangement by the fishing spot. At times, these cabins (as the shanties are called) are fitted with bunkers and other creature comforts.
The sport is actively followed by people living in very cold places, such as Canada, Alaska, Russia, Finland, Sweden, Germany and Norway. The US population inhabiting the area surrounding the Great Lakes and others living in very cold places that have long winter months also popularized this outdoor sport that sustains many lives too. Lake Erie, in particular is known to completely freeze and allow for maximum scope for ice fishing though the other bays along the Great Lakes do so only partially but still allow for lots of ice fishing fun, especially for species like the Yellow perch and Northern pike!
The essential kit includes an ice auger, a pick, an ordinary or power saw (for cutting circular holes or even a bigger rectangular one through the surface) possibly a strainer for removing newly formed ice (if any). Besides the above basic ice fishing gear, fishermen also need to gain more in-depth knowledge of the sport, its techniques and handy hints to avoid the dangers involved with ice fishing. To begin with, the 3 categories of ice fishing approaches are called Jigging, Tipping and Spear Fishing. In jigging for ice fishing, compact, lightweight rods are fitted with attractively colored, bait (popular forms are moussies and wax worms); other times, tip ups can be used that allow for unattended fishing since the fishing line is joined to flag that gives the signal on snagging a bite – all the angler has to do is pull it up! Spear fishing as the name indicates, involves requires the ice fisherman to stand guard over the chosen fishing hole waiting with the tool in hand to pick up a catch by claiming it with an accurate shot; Lake Sturgeon is a great spot for this kind of ice fishing.
To enjoy the excitement of this sport, fishermen need to be aware of the pitfalls to avoid injuries and frustration associated with practicing it wrong; some of these are covered here:
• Always check to see the spot chosen for ice fishing has a minimum thickness of 4 inches and can support the weight of humans walking over it. At least 12 inches thickness to the ice is required for it to be considered safe for taking vehicles over it and checking for rotten ice – that looks solid but may give way when cars go over, is a smart move as uncertain, weather conditions (e.g. off shore winds) cause this weakness in it’s texture that may render it weak.
• Read and research about ice fishing spots that could be adversely affected by CO poisoning caused due to using heaters in shanties and frost-bite caused by over-time exposure to chilled weather conditions and how you can avoid this. The American Ice Fishing Association gives more info these and more topics, such as how the sport helps manage fish species population, boosts economic development and can be a calming experience.

Casting artificial bait far out into the ocean up to 200 yards with the waves breaking around is great fun in fishing.Though it may seem to be easy, it is harder than what we assume. There are many things that we have to consider to have a nice day while surf fishing. There are various details that needs to be looked into before one can throw a fishing line out into the water by using rod or a reel.
First of all, what one needs to do before Casting artificial bait far out into the ocean is to plan in advance . Most fishing areas will want us to have license for fishing. If you’re caught without a liscense, the penalty will spoil our frame of mind for the day wher we go out to enjoy fishing and have fun.
We have to search as much as information available in order to know the ideal times for surf fishing. The ideal time is when the tide is high and one should be patient enough for surf fishing. Therefore it’s ideal to spend a complete day out while going out for surf fishing.
We needn’t buy any special kind of rod or reel for surf fishing. Surf casting completely depends on how well one surf casts. While analyzing on how well we can do it one must be practical about what one can do so that we can catch lots of fish at one casting. a short rod is more advantageous as it allows us to be more flexible to move from one place to another. We don’t have to surf cast very far.The fish usually swims near the break line eating decaying and rotten substance.
For surf fishing,Small crabs are the best bait .In summer, one can find them in deep holes which they dig on sand or one can find them near the shor.. When crabs are not available as bait, we can use frozen or salted anchovies or shrimp or mussels, etc.
Make sure that the bait is firm or else the bait might slide off the hook .The fish will get frightened if they sense anything close to them is alien or different. so many who surf fish use a sliding rig which sinks without exerting pressure on it.
There are many fine reasons to go out for surf casting. we can catch a variety of fishes which we feed on. It is an excellent means to have a greatt time at the seaside. when one sets out to fish, try to locate an area where there won’t be much habitants near the water. surf fishing attracts sharks as sharks swim very close to the seashore for fresh food.
If one doesn’t have enough fund to invest on buying a boat, surf casting is a means through which one can see some profit and also spend some time for oneself. Surf casting is a hobby which can be really enjoyed .It is a lovely hobby to make you get out doors and have fun . by the end of the day we’ll also find ourselves serving some fresh sea food on our table.
I have only been surf fishing a few times. I want to go with a buddy after work. IS surf fishing ok to do at night. What bait is best and what rig’s would you use ect ect. thanks
Surf fishing actually gets better at night thats when the bigger fish like to feed and they are more agressive. if you could let me know where you plan to fish and what you are wanting ti catch, I can let you know what bait and rigs to use.
Let’s face it. You go out on a fishing trip and you think you have everything ready. You have your gear with you, and you set everything up pretty much in the right way. Still, the fish are not coming. You check and recheck everything, still, nothing. So what’s wrong? How come others are reeling in the fish? What’s working for them and not for you? So you glance at the guy next to you and you notice the difference. Yep, it’s a BaitRunner. A Shimano BaitRunner (oh yes, you can turn green with envy now). Not only is the design beautifully sleek, its engineering is top of the line.
Yet again, Shimano has outdone itself with this new line of reels. Shimano is a Japanese multinational company that manufactures cycling components and fishing and snowboarding equipment. They have produced top-of-the-line products for these three sports. In making sport fishing gear, Shimano continues to be the forerunner. They have always been ahead of the pack. You only have to look at the more than 3,000 world records that were caught with Shimano equipment to become a believer. The Baitrunner is just another proof of this supremacy over other brands of reels.
A BaitRunner reel is similar to a fixed spool reel. The only difference is that with a BaitRunner, it is possible to bait fish with a closed bail while keeping the reel in total free spool. The Shimano Baitrunner has a one-of-a-kind secondary drag system. This allows you to feed out your line in a tension-controlled free spool. So whether you are fishing from the pier or from a boat, you have the advantage of full management over the fish.
One of the best features of the Shimano Baitrunner is the special grooved roller design. Its engineering ensures that loops and twists are kept to a minimum by allowing the line to evenly wrap on the spool. You would not have to worry about line tangles anymore. For instant hooksetting power, the Baitrunner has a one-way roller bearing that removes all back play on the handle.
Shimano BaitRunner spinning reels come in three different models all carefully crafted to withstand the demands your fishing requirements. You have your own unique style and needs. So you check out the BaitRunner that would best suit you. You have to know the basics for you to make the right choice. The 3500, 4500, and 6500 are the latest innovations from the classic Shimano BaitRunner reel series. What’s great about these is that all three models can be used for both salt and freshwater fishing. And the good news doesn’t stop there. You can choose the best Baitrunner reel to match your fishing style because each of these three models have different line capacities.
Convinced yet? There’s more. The Shimano BaitRunner, like all Shimano reels, is easy to maintain and was designed to give a maximum output performance for years. You’re sure to get your money’s worth and a lifetime of great fishing experiences.
So check out the Shimano BaitRunner now at the Sea Isle Tackle, your ultimate source of big game fishing gear.

What kind of set ups would I need for a sport fishing trip to Catalina Island?
Greetings! I will be taking a sport fishing trip to Catalina Island soon with Long Beach Sport Fishing, and I was wondering what kind of set up I would need (line, tackle, weights). I think I will set up one heavier rod with 25 lb test line for trolling/jigging for yellowtail and bonito. The other lighter rod I will use 15-20 lb test line for bottom fishing and live bait fishing. Can you guys please shed some light on some proper and efficient set ups? I am fairly new at this so it would be great if you can be very descriptive. I will probably be fishing for Calico Bass, Yellowtail, Bonito, Sand Bass, and Rock Fish.
first off forget about long beach you want big fish on big water go to San Diego. First and foremost the fleet there exists for only the “serious” anglers. Why surround yourself with weekend warriors who will tangle you up and break you off?
For kelp paddy fishing I throw a sliding sinker with 3/8 to an ounce of weight above my hook directly tied to 15 pound big game trilene (but I do carry a round baitcaster with ten pound just in case). For bottom fishing I use the same line but 18 pound tied to the hook. I throw a carolina rig with about 24 inches of 30 pound fluorocarbon leader. I will use a swivel with two glass beads (to protect the knots) and be able to quick change to heavier weights if needed (up to 6 ounces)

Ice Fishing – 5 Ideas To Become An Expert Ice Fisher
Planning is what can mean the difference between a thoroughly enjoyable and successful fishing trip and a disappointing one that is a failure. We have put down a checklist so you can judge for your own self exactly how prepared you are to go ice fishing.
Buy early
Do make it a point to get a list of supplies down on paper. This should include everything you could possibly need – probably all that you did use in the last season, and everything you missed then. Get those Glo-buster lights and everything else you can stock up on. The key idea here is it is better to carry more than you would use, both in terms of diversity and number.
A. The all-important hole on the floor of the ice
To put it in a nutshell, make a nice clean hole into the ice. If the circumference of the hole is chipped here and there or has chunks of ice missing, imagine how hard it would be for the fishing line to move freely into the water below. It would remain restrained at one region and ruin your chances of taking that prize catch home with you. Do not let any barrier intrude on your clean hole.
B. Fish as much as you can with the big four.
The fishing bait is one thing you just cannot go fishing without: so stock up nicely on all kinds of worms that you may need. It is a great idea to keep your bait separate from each other in different containers, and even better to keep them alive as long as you can. Remember the more bait you have left the more can you fish, so carry as much as you can.
C. Cleanliness can go a long way Clean
Do take the time to make an inspection of your gear before you get out to go fishing. Check out your rods and reels and make sure they are clean and in perfect working conditions. Use the Q-tips to help make out the grime from every corner of every groove on the ice rod. Remember to use the non-freeze type of oil to lube the reels.
D. Remain Comfortable
You are not going to be able to fish in peace if you are not feeling very comfortable. So take some heating equipment with you when you go ice fishing. Heaters and propane cylinders can go a long way to turn your trip into a success.
E. A little more on comfort
Ice can really get harsh on your skin, but there is no need to feel its harshness totally when you are ice fishing. Use an ice tent to help keep you warm, and do remember to lube the joints of the tent with non freezing type of oil. Check your tent surface for damages well before your trip so you have the time to order a repair kit and get the job done.
Basic Cooking Techniques?? Please add to this list….?
Not just basic, but broad types of food and techniques a chef in a fancy restaurant should know…
Types of food
-raw meat
-vegetables and fruit
-fish and shellfish
-Bakery items
-Tofu
Techniques
-cooking in acid (vinegar, lime juice)
-stove top (saute)
-oven (baking, roasting)
-Making a roux
Equipment to be familiar with
-ice cream maker

Please add not so obvious techniques… preferably ones that you wouldn’t think of like a roux or cooking with acid or tofu
1) Raw meat – braising, broiling, roasting, deep frying, pan frying, sauteing, stewing
2) Vegetables and fruit – know the cuts and their sizes. I’m not going to get into here. Pick up a copy of the “Professional Chef”- Culinary Institute of Art. Learn them all and the French pronunciations.
3) Add egg cookery to your list. Any good chef will know how to cook all sorts of breakfast items.
4) Fish and shellfish- Know the types and classifications. Be familiar with poaching, grilling, broiling, steaming and baking. A good technique to learn is “Fish en Papillote”.
5) Bakery Items – This is a huge topic. Pick up a copy of “Professional Baking” – Wayne Gisslen. You should know all about yeast doughs, pastries, dessert sauces, different breads, etc.
6) Tofu – can be prepared the same way as any meat.
7) You should also add soups and sauces to your list
Cooking in acid – learn about marinades and how to make seviche and lox. Learn how to make vinaigrette’s and court bouillons.
9) Sauteing- know the differences between dry heat and moist heat cooking methods. (Sauteing is a dry heat method).
10) Know how to make white, blond and brown roux’s and the foods they are used for. Learn other methods of thickening like kneaded butter, slurry’s, liaison, emulsifying and reduction.
Text books have been written on the subject. I could probably write several pages just from the top of my head, but I won’t. Including the two books mentioned above, pick up a copy of “On Cooking” – Labensky and Hause

Rapala’s KickTail Minnow, a lifelike lure made of balsa wood is another valuable lure worth trying.
Rod and Reel
While it is possible to catch fish using a net, or a spear or even bare hands, the fishing rod still proves to be the most vital and basic angler device. Bass fishing has a fascinating history. It started in the late 18th century and continues to progress until today.
It probably was originally practiced in search for food among the people in the south of the United States. Since then, it has started gaining numerous audiences – all ages and nations. Today, countries such as Australia, Cuba, South Africa, United States and most of Europe participate in this kind of event.
- The year 1768 or 1770 represents the birth of bass fishing sports. Onesimus Ustonson introduced his first multiplying reels to the fishing gurus and lovers. It was later developed into bait caster.
- William Shakespeare Jr. materializes the production of a level wind device and secured its patent on 1897.
- The William J. Jamison Co introduced the overly ornamented Shannon Twin Spinner in 1915 and was improved to create today’s spinner baits.
- In 1932, President Franklin D. Roosevelt instituted the creation of Tennessee Valley Authority and encouraged the creation and building of numerous dams. These dams were later used for culturing different varieties of bass fishes.
- Five years later, DuPont Company filed patent for nylon fishing net, this was later developed into nylon monofilament fishing line.
- The year 1992 is one of the most glorious events in the history of bass fishing. Larry Nixon, the famous fisherman in the history of bass fishing won $1 M total earnings for this sport on this year.
Bass Fish
Several fish species that are being caught in the bass fishing events are the following:
Other species of Micropterus are also caught but one that remains popular is the Largemouth bass. However, it should be emphasized that Australian Bass are different from the above North American Bass variants although most share similar features.
Perhaps, the most robust success of Bass Fishing was in the 1950s. The popularity of the game during this period is the springboard to the development of modern fishing equipments from bass boats, rods, lines, lures and various fishing gears.
Electronic gears were also incorporated among the host of equipments bass fishers used at that time. Reels of different types, which function in hauling and hoisting, were also created.
The contribution of bass fishing industry to the US economy records $50 to $70 Billion and the number continues to grow. Statistics show that the audience base of this sport is increasing and that more and more people are getting interested in it compared to tennis and golf.
Captain Pat Horrigan of Tropic Bay Guides has another project to helm.
At the request of publisher Gary Poyssick, Capt. Pat Horrigan will now be the fly Fishing Magazine editor for The Online Fisherman Magazine. The Online Fisherman Magazine is several magazines in one that covers all forms of fishing including freshwater and saltwater angling. The magazine features information about offshore, inshore, flats fishing, coastal kayak fishing, heavy tackle, light tackle and fly fishing which is where Capt. Pat comes in.
Capt. Pat Horrigan has been fly fishing for over 40 years and specializes in saltwater flats sight fishing in central west Florida. He is also an accomplished photographer and writer who relaxes’ by tying some unique fly patterns for his operation.
“I am really looking forward to this. With the transition from print to online content, a greater readership is available but more importantly this media allows for greater creativity in content. The magazine speaks to all ages and skill levels. I believe the magazine will surprise many readers and advertisers as well. This is a new chapter in my life and I am sure it will be great fun for all.”
Captain Pat operates Tropic Bay Guides Fly Fishing Service which is a multi boat sight fishing outfitter and guide service. The captain also has his hand in The Kayak Fishing ClassicS which is an open national kayak fishing tournament series conducted along the Coastal Gulf States. Capt. Pat is also working on a book about fly fishing the flats and of making the transition form freshwater to saltwater fly fishing. “There is a hilarious story about my making the transition to saltwater that I won’t go into here. I will say that it is more difficult than one may think. I however was fortunate to have a great mentor who got me over the hump without too much trauma.”
Although he has been approached, he will not become involved in making TV fishing shows. He enjoys them and respects the work greatly but does not have the time that it would demand of him. He admires and appreciates such people, some are friends, like Flip Pallot, Doug Hannon, Jose Wejebe, Chico Fernandez, Lefty Kreh, Tom Brokaw and Cliff Martin for the work that they have done in the sport and in journalism. TheOnelineFisherman is getting a very well connected mega talent in the world of saltwater fly fishing.

Are there any purely freshwater aquarium fish magazines?
I want to get a monthly subscription to a fish magazine but I hate the saltwater articles, are there any magazines that you or someone you know like and don’t have saltwater aquarium articles?
I don’t know of any general aquarium magazines that are purely freshwater. The big monthly magazines in the U.S. are Tropical Fish Hobbyist, Freshwater and Marine Aquarium, and Aquarium Fish Magazine. The last two are owned by the same company, but have different articles. All three of these have a mixture of saltwater and freshwater subjects in each issue.
The magazines that are only for freshwater are, as far as I know, the specialist magazines like The Cichlid News and Buntbarsche Bulletin (both of which are about cichlids).
The specialist hobby clubs each publish a magazine (many of them quarterly or six times a year) focusing their areas of interest. Some of these that I know of are the American Cichlid Association, the American Livebearer Association, the International Betta Congress, the American Killifish Association, the Aquatic Gardeners Association, the North American Native Fishes Associaton, and the International Fancy Guppy association. There are others as well.
Most of the local and regional aquarium clubs also put out some kind of publication, and have web sites.
Experienced boaters know what to find in high quality boats. Quality materials, high performance functions, fuel economy, durability and comfortable space are just few features that an excellent boat can offer. With such criteria, boaters need to look for the best manufacturer in the boat industry.
Princecraft is one manufacturer that built best quality fishing boats and best quality pontoons. It was initially known for its aluminum fishing boats as aluminum was the most common material that it uses for its Princecraft fishing boats. When it developed pontoon boats in later years, it uses the same materials with quality designs and craftsmanship which boater recognized. That’s why it was further established in the boating market in the next few years and developed increasing loyalty among boaters. Because of the increasing demand for its products, Princecraft has expanded and grew for the past decades into one of the popular boat manufacturer in the US.
Princecraft has evolved from manufacturer of aluminum Fishing Boat to popular modern deck boats. They design every boat and models that coincides with its functions. Princecraft fishing boats for example is developed primarily for fishing. Its function and performance ensure the fishers will do their task conveniently and comfortably. Its 2008 boat series has features that make fishing easy depending on the style and preference of the fisher. For instance, the 2008 Super Pro Special Edition Series has fishing features that include devices that feel the waters beneath. The devices guide where the fishes are and how deep they are into the water. does any one know where t find a fish skeleton back pack?
when I was in vancouver, I went into urban outfitters (not to be confused with those crappy nock off stores (urban behavure, urban apparel) and thre was this awesome backpack that was shaped like a fish skeleton, black with white bones, and a fin on each side and it’s back, but since we didn’t have any canadian money, i decided to wait to get back to the states and buy it online, but when i gt back it wasn’t on the site! does anyone know where I can find one?
ps: if ur gonna say, idk, but instead try a&f, hollister, or ae, don’t even bother because you should be trying to help your self, not me
yes i already posted this, but no one was answering, and it sank down to the bottom of the fasion session. ps. don’t say it’s for little kids
My only suggestion would be to scan eBay and unfortunately I do not see that particular backpack listed.
I could suggest another idea. Have you tried contacting Urban Outfitters customer service? Explain to them your situation. Hopefully, if it is possible, they can scan their stores throughout the US to see if it is still available. (800) 959-8794 call on Monday since they are closed weekends.
I tried to see if they have an outlet store, but unfortunately I do not see not one anywhere in the US (outletbound.com)

Pike Fishing Lures-Tips About Using The Ideal Ones To Catch That Trophy Pike
A species usually spotted in the northern fresh waters of the world, pike is a favorite catch for many hobbyists. The maximum length one such fish can reach is usually 1.83 meters and also it’s weight can go up to thirty-five kilograms. If you are after pike, don’t forget to have special pike fishing lures, or you’ll fail to catch. But prior to concerning about what lures together with accessories to use, it is good to find out about the feeding behavior specific to the species.
Ordinarily lures and also baits tend to be influenced from the actual diet which each species of fish survives on. Pike feast on shoal fish and they sometimes prey upon their smaller kin. Insects, amphibians and also ducklings are part of the menu when there is nothing better to find.
You will find 4 principal types of pike fishing lures: spoons, spinners, live fish as well as swim baits. Spoons work great with regard to pike because these inquisitive fish will be drawn by the chaotic, trembling movement of the lures. This type of pike fishing lures also has the reputation of catching fish far more quickly compared to various other models.
The second kind of pike fishing lures, spinner baits, are very simple to use and frequently chosen by hobbyists. To make certain that the pike really bite, you have to make use of large spinners rather than the small versions. For short bites, you can still catch the fish if you attach a trailer hook to the pike fishing lures so that the pike would possibly not escape.
The third type of pike fishing lures is represented by the swim baits. These are produced from plastic material and they have one downside: whenever one fish bites you need to change the lure with a new one since it will get torn apart .
Live fish will certainly be the traditional or perhaps traditional variant of pike fishing lures. Depending on the type of pike one intends to fish for, any of the food sources mentioned above are generally a good choice for lures, particularly minnows which work extremely well with smaller pike.
Among the numerous pieces of kit as well as accessories that an fisherman needs for any fishing vacation, pike fishing lures are quite various and may pose difficulty in choosing. That’s why, if you’re not a connoisseur, before actually obtaining the lures for pike it is necessary that you seek the advice of a more experienced fisherman from the area to obtain a few suggestions regarding both the fish and the type of food it prefers.

The Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, including the many streams of water across the country offer greater opportunities for Salt water fishing. United States of America has many rivers, lakes and inland streams for fresh water adventures.
Fishing in the U.S.A. is very diverse because of the fish migrating every season. The weather, however, is one factor that restrains people from fishing. Rain, fog, snow, and wind affect the fishermen since these conditions may sometimes be dangerous to them.

Pier Fishing??
Im going to hermosa beach and I want to know if this is alright for ctaching big game on the pier, here it goes, 7 foot rod, 25 pound monofilament test line, 2/0 hook, live anchovie as bait, a spinning real of up to 250 yard 25 pound test. Is this all good for fishing shark or sea bass? Also were should I fish Midpier, upper pier, lower side, how deep should my line go what kind of weight, and if I dont use live bait what other could I use?
Thanks!
when i fished a pier, i used about the same set up you are. 7ft rod, baitcasting reel, anchovies but i used 10lbs test up to 30lbs test. if your wanting to do shark, your gonna want a high test line and fish about mid to far pier. ifyou just wanna fish, then any part of the pier will do. you will also want, for the most part espacially for shark, your line to touch bottom with a torpedo sinker or even a claw sinker to keep your line stable from the currents.

Freshwater fishing trips can be a great way to enjoy on weekends. In fact, those weekly trips to the lakes, rivers and streams to enjoy some hours of fishing are a common thing for many individuals, as this sport is considered one of the most exciting as well as fulfilling games among American anglers and fishers.
However, one should be reminded that fishing, while it can be very enjoyable, has its share of hazards and dangers. For example, there is no denying that many of the fly fishing equipments has sharp parts and tools. One example is the fishing hook, which can contribute to accidents happening even if you least expect it. Likewise, we must remember that we cannot control the fishing environment. Sudden change of weather can happen such as the formation of storms or hurricanes which can definitely spoil your freshwater fishing trip.
If you plan to go to a nearby lake or out of state with some family members or friends for some freshwater fishing trips, you must plan days or weeks beforehand as it can really require a lot of preparations before you finally get into your car and head for your fishing destination.
Freshwater fishing trips need much preparation. First of all, make sure that you have all the angling gear and equipment packed – nothing should be missing. Even simple things such as the flashlight should not be forgotten as you will never know when it is going to be handy.
It is advisable to know the weather of the area where you will fish. Definitely it is going to be great help if you are aware of the weather not just days before but on the day of the fishing trip itself. Check on the internet for the local weather conditions.
You might get excited having the warm sun shine brightly as you and your group enjoy some nice fishing moments. You must be aware that hours upon hours of sun exposure can be very damaging to your skin. You can avoid any future skin problems caused by overexposure to the sun due to your fishing hobby by bringing along sun block and using it. Likewise, a hot day can be dehydrating so better bring along a bottle of water to replenish what your body has lost during your sun-drenched fishing session.
One of the worse that can happen is if you get short of bait. No more bait to use can really spoil the fun. If you have a can already running low of worms, you can try avoiding really running out of bait by cutting them into half. This can cause your bait to look smaller. But the important thing is that it can somewhat do some movement still, and can work to lure your fish.
Indeed, freshwater fishing trips can be very relaxing yet exciting at the same time. Still, there are many things that you need to consider such as your group’s safety while on the fishing site. Definitely it is a lot more memorable if you have enjoyed your trip with no bad incident with all safe as you get back home. Surely you just cannot wait to plan for the next trip.
Be prepared to face any scenario to keep your fishing adventure as relaxed as possible. With all these in mind, you could enjoy your fishing trip safely and successfully.
If you really enjoy fishing, you should experience crappie night fishing, which can lead to a huge catch in a short period of time. If you know where to go and where to drop your line, you can find some excellent crappie night fishing at several of your own area lakes. What techniques give you the best options for night fishing? Where should you be looking for crappie in the dark of night?
To begin with, it requires some basic equipment. You can take your pick of rod and reel, but the best line to use is either braid or microfilament. Use #1 size hooks, with 1/4 ounce sinkers with snap swivels or 1/4 ounce jigheads. You’ll probably want to bring a plankton attracting light that has a fully charged 12-volt battery. Frozen anchovies make excellent bait. Other equipment that can be helpful includes an LED headlamp and an ice bucket for your catch.
Night fishing for crappie is best when you avoid the full moon, and try not to fish for two days before and after the full moon, and for best results, make your trip as close to the new moon as possible. Cut the anchovies into smaller pieces, about one inch in length; this will get more bites than large pieces because crappie have small mouths that tear easily and they do not bite large bait. Depending on the night location you choose, you may have to search deep in the lake to find the schools. However, you can also fish off the docks, piers, and banks for crappie in the shallows with lots of cover.
As with typical daytime fishing, you’ll want to cast several lines at various depths in order to find the best location where crappie are suspended. Because they prefer cooler temperatures in the summer, you’ll find that night fishing often brings fish closer to the surface as the waters cool overnight. By the same token, night fishing in the winter will produce the opposite effect; crappie will be found closer to the bottom of the lake, where temperature maintains a bit of warmth and general consistency.
Crappie night fishing can be frustrating when you are inexperienced in the practice, so for your first few times out, you should carry an electronic depth finder with you to help you locate possible schools of crappie, unless you plan to fish off the banks or piers. Target areas around tree bases or rocky embankments, as these are favored hiding places for loose schools of crappie. They don’t like any kind of exposure and will hide in any cover they can find.
A few questions about first saltwater 30 gallon tank.?
Ok I am asking this question again because I didn’t get a whole lot of answers last night…not that they were not good I just wanted some more input!
I am expecting to be getting a new 30 gallon aquarium I want to do something different besides just tropical fish with it. I have been looking at setting up a cichlid aquarium, or maybe even a saltwater aquarium. But I have some questions
1) What would I need for a saltwater aquarium that is different from a freshwater aquarium equipment wise
2) Could I or Would I want to do a reef set up in this size aquarium what would be the pros and cons?
3) How much would I be looking at spending? (You don’t have to include tank, heater, or filter cost (if I can use HOBS) because I am getting these things used for cheap.
4) Can you give me some stocking suggestions for a 30 gallon aquarium?
5) If I chose to do a fish only tank how would I go about doing it? How would I decorate it?
I know I was probably one of them that answered, who knows. I don’t or haven’t ever kept SW, but I have been doing my own research as I am planning on starting a SW tank myself. Here are just some helpful links on setting up a SW. I was recommended to get FO(fish only) or FOWLR(fish only with live rock) as my first set up. Once you get used to that then you can move onto more difficult species like coral and invertebrates. I have been keeping FW fish for quite some time now, and I still want to start out with the simplest thing to see if I succeed. One good starter fish would be an ocellarus clown. And in a tank that size you will need about 40 pounds of live rock, and can keep 4-5 fish in there.
1) You only need really good lighting (especially for corals and invertebrates), maybe a protein skimmer, 2 or more powerheads, and a hydrometer or a refractometer. You will also need marine salts. So these are the most expensive things you will probably buy.
2)you can definitely keep fish and different types of corals and invertebrates in that size of tank. The pros are the coloration and beauty of a SW, the cons is the expense and extra few steps in caring for them.
3)You will probably spend at the very least another $300-400. You can use HOBS like Aquaclears, and put some mechanical filtration in there (live rock will be biological filtration). This will help in cleaning any waste.
4)I cannot strongly recommend anything but as said above. Damsels are often recommended, but more than one person or site has told me they can be aggressive, so not really the best to get first.
5) You can decorate it with a sandy bottom, try aragonite (live sand), or crushed coral for a substrate. You can also decorate it with deco’s you get from a pet store if you’d like. If you put rocks in there like fiji rock, or other porous rocks, they will cure and start having beneficial creatures growing on it.

Is there special fishing equipment for a person with amputated hands?
My friend was in a terrible accident and had to have his hands amputated. For a long time we have talked on how i would love for him to go deep Sea Fishing with me in baja but now that this happened im wondering how i can set it up for him to experience it.
He will probably need some help. There are electric reels where one pushes the button to reel it up. My dad had one (I think he made it) that had a bigger button or maybe two (one for line in and the other for line out) than the example below that have more options (as long as he has something to push the buttons with). The rod can be put in something that can be bolted down. You could use leverage with the butt on a belt holder (used by people that do things like fish for marlin) and an attachement to the left arm to hold the rod higher. Things like baiting the hook, putting the gear on etc. would probably take another person to do.

If you are looking for a wonderful recreational sport that will take you far away from your comfort zone, look no further than bass fishing. The sport of bass fishing has quickly risen into the ranks of a multi billion dollar industry. This fishing sport has acquired a great following throughout the years and is now one of the most popular sports in America.
This fact is no accident. While bass fishing is done all around the world, its popularity in America stems from the fact that the most popular types of bass fished for sport can be found in multitudes in the waters of North America. Bass fishing in America is so popular that bass fishing masters have become household names among American sports enthusiasts.
Perhaps it is the lure of going back to basics and getting in touch with man’s hunting urges in nature that lures millions upon millions of individuals to this wonderful world of bass fishing for sport and recreation. If you are new to this sport or if you are only beginning to think about taking up this hobby, the whole concept of fishing may be a little daunting.
Fortunately, what general knowledge we all have on fishing, applies for the sport of bass fishing. The exciting task of catching bass is done with a hook line and sinker. If you are looking for bass fishing techniques, look no further than that.
Of course if you are a bass fishing enthusiast looking to improve your performance in the sport, you will be looking for bass fishing techniques but really, bass fishing is quite simple. First, this is so because bass fish are bountiful in certain waters, especially in North America so you can be sure that if you head on out to bass filled waters you are sure to catch a few. What counts of course is to catch bass fish of a certain size and weight. In this regard, the bass fishing technique to utilize is common sense. First of all, make sure that your fishing equipment is suitable for the type and size of bass you are hoping to catch.
Remember also that bass fish particularly the big mouth and small mouth are feisty fish that serve the purpose of wonderful gaming fish. The large mouth bass is highly resistant to captivity and once hooked, you may have a hard time reeling it in because it will tend to hide behind submerged structures such as logs and seaweed to avoid being caught. The small mouth on the other hand is known to be jumpy once it hits the surface to be able to escape the grip of the hook. This is where your bass fishing technique of reeling the game in will come in handy.
Also, because bass is a feisty fish resistant to capture, anglers are used. Anglers is the term for angled hooks used to catch the fish. There are several types of bait you can use, depending on your own preferences and bass fishing techniques. You may opt to use live or artificial bait and both actually work fine. Some artificial baits work better than the others and to find out which ones are more effective, you can read up on user reviews from bass fishing forums or ask your trusted fishing buddies for their recommendations. Of course, nothing beats the learning from actual experience so don’t be shy, get out there and compile your very own bass fishing techniques.
Hello! I am new to fishing, and have decided that I am going to get involved with beach-casting as I live on the coast (I’m British by the way, so please excuse me if you use different terminology where you’re from).
I am on a very tight budget, but I’ve bought a 12ft rod for £25 and I understand a reel is the next thing I need. Can anybody direct me as to what sort of reel I need for beach-casting, and what I can expect to purchase on a limited budget? I am prepared to pay a little more for quality but I really must look after the pennies, as I still have to buy the rest of my equipment!
If you could tell me what to look for in a beach-casting reel and give me a rough idea of UK prices I’d be most grateful. Any links so I can look at pictures or reviews would also be nice.
Thanks!
Im in the UK..
You want to be looking for one of the larger models of Fixed Spool Reels…they are easy to use and if you take care of it , it will last for years..The golden rule when buying a reel of this type is the more ball bearings it has the higher the quality n durability…look for features like a coned spool , instant anti reverse and anti line twist…Make sure you buy one with a proper Front Drag..
A budget of 30 quid should get you up n running..probably less if you shop around..Have a look at the Gerrys of Morecambe website..he has some good deals on all the time n the after sales service is second to none..Get a copy of Sea Angler magazine..they do some great features on budget tackle and the classified ads will give you some idea of what you should be looking for..

The lake has been revitalized in the past decade with implants of more beneficial vegetation. These changes created new critical spawning areas for the the largemouth , and other fish species. Lake Kissimmee is located east of the City of Lake Wales in the heart of Osceola County.
We will list 12 Area’s on or around the lake that have been known to hold black. You can also visit the Florida Fish and wildlife conservation commission http://myfwc.com/fishing/forecast/ webpage and click on Interactive maps to get more detail information.
Area #1 Kissimmee Fishing Lake Report The Highway 60 bridge area on the south end of Lake Kissimmee produces largemouth bass, crappie and catfish in summer. This spot is excellent when the S-65 lock is open and water is moving out. For bass, fish deep water around the bridge pilings with plastic worms and deep-diving crankbaits. Crappie prefer deep, cool water around the bridge during summer. Minnows and jigs are your best bet.
Area #2 The area between the Shady Oaks Fish Camp and the Highway 60 bridge provides good spring bass action on plastic worms and craws, topwaters and Rat-L-Traps.. Work the old river channel, marked by scattered grass outcroppings. This is a good spring spawning area for bass. In summer, flip plastic worms, rigged Florida-style with a screw in bullet sinker, along the edges of the vegetation. Look for schooling bass in June and July.
Area #3 Lake Kissimmee Fishing Report This is the prime spawning area on the south end of the lake. Fish the shallows with spinnerbaits, plastic worms, craws and jerk baits in late winter and early spring.
Area #4 This deep-water break off the east side of Brahma Island drops into 6 foot depths, creating holes in the vegetative cover. Work the cover for bass in the summer and again in late fall for shallow fish, staging for spawning.
Area #5 During summer, work jerkbaits, plastic worms, vibrating plugs and spinnerbaits for bass along the southeast corner of Brahma Island. Cast around hydrilla and the edges of the drop-offs along the cut. Depths vary from 2 to 8 feet and average 4 to 5 feet off the main channel.
Area #6 The cut behind Brahma Island, extending between Rocky Point and Otter Slough, is a good spot for summer bass. Throw topwater lures early and late in the day along the edge of lily pads and scattered hydrilla. When the sun is high, flip the pads around the weed transitions.
Area #7 The westernmost point of Brahma Island has a good drop off marked by lily pads and hydrilla growth. Work topwater bass lures early in the day along the edges of the hydrilla. Switch to lipless vibration lures and plastic jerk baits, worms and craws as the sun moves higher. Work the cut toward Otter Slough, casting the hydrilla seams and pockets.
Area #8Kissimmee Lake Fishing Report This small cove is called Polluted Waters but, in spite of the name, the water is not polluted. Fish weedless spoons and plastic worms to the cover at the mouth of the cove. Spring and summer are prime times. Flipping works best along the line of maidencane and Kissimmee grass.
Area #9 Shallows on the northwest shore of Brahma Island attract spawning bass in late winter and early spring. Work the inside of the outer grassline with weedless plastics. In summer, flip the outside edges of the grassline.
Area #10Report Lake Kissimmee Fishing Scattered lilypads and Kissimmee grass hold bass most of the year. Use topwaters early around the scattered grass patches then work the heaviest cover with weedless plastics.
Area #11 Jack’s Slough produces bass in late spring and summer. Vegetation edges are especially good after a rain, which increases the current from Jackson Creek. Retrieve plastic worms, jerk baits, spoons and spinnerbaits around the vegetation and contours at the mouth of the inlet. Live shiners will bring out the big bass.
Area #12 Scattered grass in 4 to 7 feet in the Three Oaks area attract bass. Cast spoons, topwater plugs or buzz baits along the outside grassline early in the year. Bass spawn in the nearby shallows in early spring. This is also a prime spawning spot for bluegill and redear.
Well I hope the 12 areas identified in this Florida lake Kissimmee Fishing Report will help on you plan your next freshwater fishing trip to Florida. Lets Go Fish’in!

I love fishing. I enjoy it whether or not I catch fish. A good catch makes the fishing trip more than just a visit – it makes it a successful fishing trip. I prefer to catch fish. A memorable fishing adventure begins with a good plan.
What makes a fishing trip successful? For starters you need to gear up. You need to:
* know the right spot to fish * have the right vehicles to get to the right spot * use the right bait to attract the right fish to take the hook * know how to set the hook, and * how to play and land the fish.
Do all these things properly, and you will have a great fishing trip.
Plan
A successful fishing trip begins long before the first cast. Being at the right place at the right time might look fortuitous to the onlooker, but it’s usually the result of research and planning. Someone has taken the time to learn about the fish; habits, patterns, likes and dislikes. It is also critical to know the waterway and have a roadmap to guide you to the spot. You also want to understand weather patterns and have backup plans to deal safely with accidents or disasters.
Preparation
In getting equipped for a great fishing trip, you will want to prepare for all possible situations. You will need survival gear, fishing equipment and the suitable vehicles to get to the right location. Then there’s the fishing gear – rod and reel, the tackle box, line, lures, weights. If you’re camping you will have a whole other range of concerns and equipment to attend to.
Competition
You will need to be aware of the other fishermen vying for the same fish as you are. Too many competitors will deplete the supply of fish and you might find yourself working much harder than you want. A certain amount of competition is healthy, too much is not. If your business is competing with too many others, you will need to work much harder to capture your share of the market. If you find yourself surrounded by a throng of hungry fishermen and no fish, it might be time to pack up and move to a new location. If you find yourself engulfed by competitor advertising and your sales lagging it may be time to reposition your business.
Location
Success is only possible in both fishing and business by choosing the right location. Ideally you want to place yourself on the bank of a river where the current compels the fish to swim within a few feet of you. Fishing where there are no fish is like trying to sell goods where there are no customers. In business, you must locate yourself where customers can see you and where they can stop to shop. You can do everything else perfectly, but if you are in the wrong place customers and fish won’t even know you’re in the game.
Presentation
You can pick the right location and do many things well, but if you don’t present the right tackle the customers will pass you by. As the fish swim through your location, something has to catch their interest and entice them to pause long enough to inspect your offering. It might be some sort of bait or a shiny lure, or a combination of the two. The bait can be real food; the lure might look like food. The function of your presentation is to get the fish to stop and bite. In business, you must find ways to catch your customers’ interest and slow them down long enough to nibble on your lure.
Play
Once a fish bites you need to set the hook and reel ‘em in. If you blow this part of the process, the fish gets away and isn’t likely to take your bait again for a long time. I don’t know if fish talk to each other, but customers definitely do. Make sure each encounter is positive. Depending on the type of fish and your skill set, you might have to play a few fish and customers before actually landing one.
Landing
You can play the fish and bring it to the water’s edge, but your job is still not done. Many great fish are lost at the point of landing. Part of the trick to a successful landing is to remain calm so as not to spook the fish. With customers you will need to be attentive to the last drop, listening for objections, answering questions, focussing on the benefits. It is also critical to know when your catch is complete, and how to stop selling and start bagging.
Like fishing, your business adventure should begin with a plan. In planning your business you will:
* Prepare yourself to manage and operate your business * Learn what’s working for your competitors * Research and compare different locations * Develop and fine tune your presentation
Planning will take you to a certain point and then it’s time to get out into the current and fish. Once in business you will have plenty of opportunities to learn the business trade skills of attracting, engaging and keeping customers.

Get All the Information You Need with Fly Fishing Magazine
Fly fishing is becoming a fast-growing sport and pastime. It is basically catching a fish by using an artificial bait or fly. Some bait is synthetic while some are made up of natural materials. There are also some people who mix the two materials together to create more attractive bait for the target fish. This is way cooler than the old way of fishing where we use worms as baits. Some just doesn’t have the stomach for that. Now, with fly fishing, everybody can learn how to fish and they can basically do it anywhere with a body of water with some fish in it. Because of this growing interest that it is attracting, written materials like books are made with it as a subject. Now, fly fishing magazine is a much better reading material for fishing enthusiasts because it keeps them updated with new techniques of fly fishing and where they can basically express and share their thoughts and experiences on it. Fly Fishing Magazines are also good materials to get information on the fishing sites that we find more interesting. They also provide a good amount of information on the things we will need and where to get them. Shops which offer materials are keen to advertise on such magazines giving us a broad idea on what they are offering.
Fly fishing magazine is a good read not just to those who are fishing enthusiasts but also to those who want to try fishing for the first time. Just by reading a magazine, we can have an overview or a general idea on what it is all about. We can also see the resorts in our local area or anywhere in the world which have it as one of their attraction. Fish, like other things can be seasonal. In these kinds of magazines we can get an idea on what kind of fish we can get in a certain area and during what time of the year.
Written updates on techniques are made available in fly fishing magazines. Just like in fishing in cold water, we often need to use wading boots for safety and insulation. However, we can find updated products where boots now have a personal flotation device which is inflatable for deep-water streams. In magazines we can find which products to use better and where to buy them.
Other interesting materials about it are also present in fly fishing magazine. Some magazines can serve as a platform for our questions about fly fishing and other fishermen and fishing enthusiasts can help us solve our problems by providing instructions and solutions, or simply answers to our questions. With the colorful history of fly fishing and its ability to bring us closer to nature, it is not just a good pastime or hobby but also a cool way of providing food to our table. It helps us learn about nature and basically brings us to a much better understanding of creatures other than the human race.
What do you think about BASS getting rid of the Co-Anglers in the “Elite” Events?
Is this really “Growing the Sport”? What are the benefits to being in BASS if you do not have the chance to fish an “Elite” Event as a Co-Angler, a crappy magazine that is mostly one big advertisment? Do you think ESPN has ruined BASS?
I have read on the Web about the “Pros” complaining about having a Co with them…but in all honesty, if it were not for us Weekend Fishermen, there would be no one to buy the products that they try to hock every time they get a chance…especially since most of the “Big Pros” get everything from their hooks to boats for free…what do you think?
I am actually glad my club is a part of FLW and our Federation split with BASS…
DANE: From my understanding the reason why BASS is getting rid of the Cos is because their “Pros” are complaining that they get in their way…
I’m really big into FLW right now, as I’ve taken notice of some of the things that have been going on with BASS. Yes, I think taking away the co-angler events sucks. I wasn’t even aware of that one! If you saw the Wal-mart FLW tour, Stetson Blaylock won the co-angler event with a better showing than the pros! The co-angler is a huge stepping stone for many, and I would like to believe BASS has a good explanation for excluding it from Elite tours.

What photo equipment do I need to take professional wedding pictures?
I own a Nikon D40X digital SLR camera and I will be my brother’s wedding photographer for his wedding. I already have a zoom lens and a wide angle lens. The wedding is inside so I know I will need a better flash. I was looking at the SB-600 Nikon flash. What else do you think I will need in order to take professional quality pictures? Thank you for your input in advance.
I have done outside weddings before and the pictures came out wonderful. I do know how to take professional photos, but I have never did a wedding indoors before.
Here is a link,
http://www.rokkorfiles.com/Wedding101-page1.html
I’m afraid you will need more than just a good camera and flash. The most important ingredient is the photographer. Even skilled and experienced amateurs have been know to flub their first wedding shoot. I am assuming your brother knows your experience level and has seen your work. Make sure his bride is fully in on the plan, too. Unless you have been shadowing a pro wedding photographer for several weddings and also have a very good set of skills of your own, it is highly unlikely that you will produce professional looking photos. For one thing, weddings move at a pretty rapid pace and there’s not time for a lot of fiddling and trial and error. For many wedding happenings you have one shot and it has to be right. So taking a series and hoping for right exposure is out of the question.
I highly suggest you visit the venue at the same time of day as the wedding and do some test shots. Take a model with you, in fact, take two . Dress one person in white and one in black. Try some exposures with and without flash and see what you’ve got. You don’t say what lenses you have. If the venue is dark, the kit lens will not be fast enough. During the ceremony there will most likely be no flash allowed. And you may be restricted on your movement as well. In low light, a tripod is essential for the ceremony. I set it up in the back or the balcony.
My usual plan is to shoot the processional from the front with a flash. When the bride (and escort/s) reach the front the photographer often moves to the back of the church or a balcony. Occasionally you can shoot from the front. If I have a second shooter I do the front and my assistant goes for the long shots. Usually no flash is allowed throughout the ceremony. Besides being distracting, many people, especially the clergy, believe flashing disturbs the sanctity of the vows and will not allow it. I use a tripod for the ceremony shots, and either a f/1.4 or f/1.8 prime or a f/2.8 zoom, depending on how far away I am. As the ceremony draws to a close I ease my way back toward the front for the kiss. Then flash again for the recessional.
By all means you will need a good flash. The SB600 will do a good job. Nikon has an excellent iTTL flash system. Unless you are comfortable with manual flash, let the system work for you. If you can bounce or use a bouncer of diffuser you will get much more pleasing light with less specular highlights and softer shadows. But beware of underexposure while using a diffuser. Usually you have to compensate the flash output, which means you will use more battery power. I highly suggest using lithium batteries in a SB600. They hold a full charge better, but you will have to keep in mind the recycle time. Some popular diffusers are the Gary Fong Lightsphere (I use the clear) the Demb diffuser, Stofen, and betterbouncecard, I have a new one called Lightscoop that I like very well.
Practice a lot between now and the wedding. Get a backup camera of some sort, just in case. Have lots of fresh batteries and memory. If you are not completely comfortable shooting on manual, use the program mode and check the results using the histogram. Purists will hate the idea of the P mode in a wedding, but in truth P will get the amateur in the ballpark 80% of the time. Don’t be afraid to use higher ISO. True, ISO 100 will get you much less noise, but I would rather have sharp images with some noise than clean but blurred. The D40 should be acceptable at ISO 800 if needed, of course 400 would be better. Try to get some good portraits outdoors of the B&G. Watch the highlights on the dress to avoid blowing them and having a featureless white blob of a bride. Look at some wedding sites for the “must-have” shots. Make a list and discuss them with the B&G. Have someone in charge of rounding up the people in the formals. When shooting the group formals, be the only one at the front. Command attention and get your shots first. Then let the guests snap. If you don’t take control, you will have the wedding party looking in all different directions. When you are shooting, they look at you only. Always turn people’s bodies at an angle to the lens. Don’t shoot from below. Portraits made looking up someone’s nostrils are never flattering. If you are on the short side, take a small step stool for portraits. You will be seriously amazed at the difference a foot in height can make. Pay attention to the details. Hold bouquets low in the group shots, most girls want to hold them too high. I don’t like the guys to clasp their hands in front. Hands in pockets is fine. Don’t chop off limbs at a joint. Get closeups and full length. In the full length shots, do not chop feet off. A little tilt goes a long way and tilt does not suit every image. In particular the ceremony and group portraits should be level.
Also remember that as the photographer, you will not be able to be the sister. It is a very important day for your brother and the family. But you, as the event photographer, will be shooting, planning to shoot, checking the shots, setting up shots, capturing emotions, getting details, etc etc etc. You will not have time to join the festivities or participate in the emotions of the day. You can’t chat with cousins you haven’t seen in years or visit with grandparents. You will be busy. You will probably have some difficulty with family members who don’t get it that you are working. Be kind, but firm. You are responsible for the day’s memories.
Be very sure about this. Bad feelings can happen when things go wrong. Even with the best of intentions on both sides, sometimes emotions get out of control, especially if the product isn’t as good as hoped or envisioned. Sometimes the B&G don’t realize how important good photography is until they are disappointed. So make sure everyone can handle it gracefully no matter what the outcome is. I don’t say this to overly discourage you. After all, I know nothing about your skill. You may be one of the rare newbies who can deliver great wedding images. I hope so, and also that everything will go great. Best wishes and good luck!
*EDIT*
I meant to mention, the day is about the bride, baby! Your side of the family is groom. I’m sure you know them better and are more comfortable around folks you know well. Of course, you want to document him on his day as well. But the day is 90% about the bride. As a wedding photographer, rather than the family photographer, you will have to lean your coverage toward the bride. If you forget that, most likely you will never *forget*, or hear the end of it, probably. So go for the girls!
Fly Fishing Basics : How to Add Tippet to the Fly Fishing Line
When thinking of going to purchase new fishing tackle, which fishing appliances would you select? Perhaps you simply go out and buy the costliest, thinking the dearest would have to be the best or would you choose the cheapest in the hope this would do the job anyway. You might ask other anglers what they suspected or you could search the internet.
Personally when i am buying new fishing apparatus I ask fishermen mates and then I search the net for unbiased reviews of any actual item I’m after. I remember when platted fishing line became big news, I hadn’t got a clue about platted line at all, I asked all of my friends and it seemed that nobody at the time was using it.
Sometimes when purchasing new tackle it proves to be an expensive mistake, some new equipment just does not measure up to my expectations.
Now we have online auction sites, so buying some fishing tackle is not such a risk any more at least I’ll sell items I do not need now. I have even been sufficiently lucky to sell items of tackle for more cash than paid for originally . With the web comes more competition for sellers of high spec fishing tackle, this is a massive plus for anglers. Especially on online auction sites, costs on there vary such a lot, Some dealers are so cheap compared with other sellers, it makes you think how they make a profit.
This is all good news for me and you and the vendor as well , an avid dealer, selling on auction sites will sell more items than they were ever ready to sell during the past, this is what dealers need less profit but a higher turnover of stock.
the web is not such a bad place, not for a keen competitive angler anyway.

Fishing is a fun and tranquil sport that lets you spend quiet time with your friends, family and with Mother Nature.
Fresh water fishing is a sport involving the catching of fish in lakes, rivers and streams. It involves a lot of patience, challenge and a lot of acquired skill over time. Anyone can participate in this fun activity, including the kids.
To start, you have to check your State’s fishing requirements and make sure if a license is needed for you to fish. If it is required, you must acquire one by checking with a sporting goods store. They will help you how to get it, and some will even provide it for you.
During the time that you are in your favorite sporting goods store, you can look around and buy the right fishing equipment that you will be need for your trip. Considering that you are a beginner, make sure that you budget well the cost and your spending on the equipment, not deciding on expensive equipments; buy only the basic things you will need.
When in doubt as to what is needed, ask the help of the store keeper, but do keep in mind that you need to stick to a budget. Take your time and don’t hesitate to ask how to use each piece of equipment that is offered to you. Artificial lures for bait can be used or you can simply look for worms from your back yard.
An inexpensive fishing rod and reel will be enough along with a fishing line, hooks, weights, a bobber (this keeps your line afloat), fishing lures and net. A polarized sunglass is also essential, as it will help to see clearly through the water and lessen the glare.
Then if you don’t know the good locations to fish, ask about local “hot” spots, or check your State’s fishing regulations for information about fishing locations around your State.
The time will surely come when you will be a better fisherman; then you may decide on upgrading your equipment. In the meantime, keep things simple.
It is always advised that you avoid fishing alone. Always be with a friend, as when emergency strikes, there can be someone who can call for help.
It is wise to start fishing in shallow waters. Aim your cast in shady or rocky areas where the water is deep, as this is where the fish is expected to be found. Keep in mind that this is all practice first.
As your skill level develops and increases, you can then attempt into deeper waters. But before going, take the time to practice casting to familiarize yourself with your rod and your reel.
What better place to practice than your back yard. To do so, mark off an area using a rope and use this as your guide in aiming your cast. Rehearse and study your movements to discover a method that will work for you. Bear in mind, cast with your wrist, and not with your arm.
Fishing hooks are very sharp and needed to be handled with care to avoid injury. Before casting, it is important that you should look around you and stay unobstructed to avoid hurting other people with your hook.
When the right time has come and you go fishing for real, keep in mind to cast your line always ahead of the fish, making your bait land slowly, with as little splash as possible. The fish will see well at a close point, but cannot see behind.
If your casts are going in a disorganized manner, move closer to the water so you can gain better accuracy.
Watch the bobber closely for any movement. If and when a fish grabs the bait, the bobber will be pulled under water. This signals that you got a fish on the line. Don’t get too excited. Remain calm.
Keeping your line tight, slowly reel in your catch. Place the net near and use it to bring the fish out. Remove the hook from the fish with great care.
If you got an undersized fish (as noted in the state’s regulation book), quickly return it to the water. Likewise, if you have no intention in eating your catch, do not waste it and return it to the water. Releasing the fish will supply the water with more fish, giving future fishermen the thrill to experience a catch.
Lastly, look around you and feel the calm, restful and serene view of the river.
This summer I am looking for fun things to do with my children. My husband works all day & hates fish and everything fishing. I remember as a kid I went fishing with my uncle and had some really fun times. That was “years” ago and I bearly remember anything. I do remember we used live bait I think it was called killies(sp?). I plan on buying us all some cheap fishing gear to start just to see how it goes before investing in the good equipment. We will go to New Jersey’s shoreline pier. Now for that area I am clueless as to what I’ll be fishing for as well as how even to tell the fish apart should I actuallu catch any. I am I’m pretty much looking for a lot of tips tricks & advice that would help us out.
Go ask at your local tackle shop. They can tell you what to fish for, where, and what to use.

Runescape guide to fishing rocktails and cavefish in the living rock caverns.
Carp fishing has evolved over the years into what has become a highly specialised pass time. I have read some where that more people go fishing at the weekends than go to football matches which is pritty astounding really, this just shows us how popular our sport is. You should also know that carp fishing rigs have also changed over the years and you must keep up with this technology if you want to catch more carp.
I remember being on holiday many years ago at warmwell, this was a holiday park with several fishing lakes of which one was a specimen carp pool. Warmwell became famous in later years as it was home to a 38lb carp and in those days that was out of the ordinary, there simply was not carp of this size that average joe could fish for. There were still many lakes that held fish of this size but there were top secret and very private, you never got to know about these venues and the carp fishing rigs that were being used,
I remember walking round the lake In the evening and feeling like I shouldn’t be there, non of the anglers seemed to want to talk to me. I started talking to two lads who were quite friendly, the had caught a carp and had it sacked up, fior anybody who is new to carp fishing I will explain what sacked up is.
Carp fishermen usually sack a carp when they have caught a specimen fish during the night and want to take pictures in the morning in the light. They simply put the fish in a ‘carp sack’ which is a sack that the carp is placed in and tied to the bank, the fish is perfectly happy in the sack for a few hours.
The fish they had sacked was a 22lb mirror carp which they had caught on tutti fruti boile carp fishing rigs. At this time hair rigs were relatively new on the Market and were being used by all the top carp anglers.
There are many differnt types of carp fishing rigs,So just what is a hair rig?. Well in simple terms it’s a loop that hangs below the hook, this has a massive advantage of leaving the bait hanging just below the hook completely free. When a carp has sucked in the bait they cannot see or feel the hook, as the bait is sucked in so is the hook the carp is yours !.There are many variations of these carp fishing rigs and I will be explaining these in more detail in futher articles.
You may be asking how the bait (boilie) is attached to the hair rig?. Well a boilie is about the same size and shape as a marbel. The boilie is drilled with a boilie punch and the hair is threaded through the hole , now we need to ensure the boile stays on the hair which is done by fixing a boilie stop through the loop that has been threaded through the the hole in the boile, the bait is then pushed down on to the bait stop and will never come off, this is just one example for carp fishing rigs.
The boilie stop is simply a very small piece of plastic or you can use a strand of grass, this will stop the bait coming of the hair rig. You can now cast your bait 150 yards plus knowing that it won’t come off. As I have already mentioned there are many variations of carp fishing rigs including many different types of hair rigs, these will be explained in future articles.

Where can I find good quality fresh frozen boilies for carp fishing?
I really want to get some fresh boilies but cannot afford to buy in bulk. Prefer only 1kg at a time. Any tips on flavours appreciated also and if there is anyone who lives in Cornwall and can tell me where to find some big carp either on day ticket or membership that would be great.
Been out of the game about 2yrs and have moved counties so all feels new again.
Thanks to all in advance.
You can buy frozen boilies from most good tackle shops and they keep for ever if you refreeze them. Try richworth pinapple or the good old tutti fruities ones.
